I've drawn several characters for people on the DCAY thread, and I've found that it's a bit difficult for me to get the colors to match the character. I've seen many people on that thread who seem to have gotten the colors to exactly match the character above them, and I was wondering if there was a special trick to doing so? Right now, I use the Oekaki feature on here to draw art for other users on that thread.

The other people are most likely taking the image of the character they are drawing and putting it into an art program (such as Photoshop or PaintTool SAI) that has an eye dropper tool. The eye dropper tool allows you to click on an area and get the exact color from it. The Oekaki has this tool - however, you can't paste a JPG or PNG file into the Oekaki and then use the eyedropper tool to get the colors from it. Basically, you need another program that allows you to copy/paste or open up the JPG or PNG files of the peoples' characters in order to get the exact colors.

If you open up the reference picture in another program (like Photoshop), you can grab the hex code, and then use that hex code in the Oekaki. I made a quick step-by-step tutorial:





I think Oekaki won't let you directly paste the hex code, but you can just type out the 6 digit combination.

Unfortunately I don't have Photoshop or anything similar, but hopefully I can get one of those programs in the near future. Thanks for the help! :3

You could try downloading gimp. It's free, and I've heard a lot of users say that it's a great program.
