Go to "My Account", then "Profile", then "Edit avatar". Once you're there, you can choose to upload an avatar from your computer or enter the URL of an avatar from another site. It has to be 100x100 pixels or smaller.

ok i know that but like n pics are small enough

I think you can change the picture size with "Avatar dimensions".

I just gave someone else directions on how to do this as well:

My Account -> Profile -> Edit Avatar -> Use either the upload from your machine or the upload from URL option, depending on where the picture you want to use is from.
The picture has to be 100x100 pixels or smaller in order for it to work. If you need to crop/resize the image you can upload it to photobucket and then on the photobucket page of the picture, if you hover over the image it will show a toolbar at the top that has a resize option and you can resize it there.
