And RR pets usually have "last grew" listed in how many days old they were.

that's super weird and I am so curious as to why. I hope there is an interesting answer. In the archive it has that date as well listed where it would normally say "newborn".

Other pets that have specific dates like that are rare, and are usually things like Staff Birthdays, but they have a newborn stage because they have to be something before they grow on a certain date...

The 'last grew' being a date instead of number of days is probably because back in the early years some pets would be set to grow on specific dates, as opposed to after a certain number of days. You tended to see it more often during events such as the 2008 halloween event; archive/2008/Halloween/
You could adopt the pumpkin newborn, and it would grow into one of the outcomes on Oct 31st. Thats also why if you get one of those pets in a re-release now, you get it already full grown even though it had a newborn stage, because its already after the date it was set to grow on.

I'm not familiar with how the Blackstar release specifically worked, you might be able to find some info on old discussion threads. It looks like the adoption date is actually a month earlier in August, so its possible it had a growing stage for a while until it was set to grow in September and the first stage just isn't on there for one reason or another.
