Welcome to the California Stock Horse Association
Directory:
About the breed:
The California Stock Horse is a hardy breed that was founded in the valleys of Southern California with lines drawing influence from the American Quarter Horse, American Paint Horse, Purebred Spanish Horse, and the Thoroughbred.
This careful combination of talented and versatile breeds led to the culmination of a sturdy yet agile horse bred to excel in ranch work, and later on in both Western and English riding disciplines.
Notable features of the California Stock Horse are their powerful shoulders and buttocks giving them a strong build, and their long, thick legs perfect for travelling long distances and giving them sure footing when it comes to herding cattle. A bit larger than the average stock horse, the California Stock Horse typically stands at 15 to 16 hands tall.
