Whitedust plodded through the thick desert dust and sand the sun beating down on her fur. Determinedly she pushed on towards the woods in the distance and the allure of cool air.

Whitedust shook herself at the edge of the woods letting the dirt float away and stepped into the woods. She stood out brilliantly her fur bleached from the sun. With a deep breath she plunged deeper into the woods slowly at first then picking up speed until she was going fast.. too fast. As she raced on she narrowly dodged trees and underbrush finally skidding when coming to close to a fallen log and flipping over it rolling down an incline, through the mud, and into water. With a siren-like shriek emitting from her beak she rolled over pushing her head above the surface while the rest of her body remained under water with her paws folded under her. She sipped the water slowly and then began to play. Swooshing in circles and rolling and then standing facing the current letting it wash over her.

Evening approached as the sun left it's zenith and began to descend soon sinking beneath the tree tops. Whitedust left the water shaking herself then preening her fur. More slowly she strolled into the woods looking for an amply protected area to make a den or nest. Skillfully she climbed up into a tree soon reaching the uppermost limbs and gazed down the light rapidly fading from the landscape. Swishing her tail with annoyance Whitedust climbed down the tree slowly, she had tried to fly more than once and learned that she couldn't for her absence of wings. Trotting on Whitedust stopped at an overhang surrounded by prickly brambles. Backing up a step she leaped deftly over them and dug out a hollow cave in the dirt and circled in it hardening the dirt throughout it. Heavily exhaling Whitedust lay down and once again pondered why she could not fly when her parents could as she sunk into sleep.
