you approach a petite cloudeer in a lovely navy dress decorated with gold flowers. she's pulling apart a corsage. you politely ask how the ball is going so far and she lets out a frustrated sigh. "my date stood me up. again." she pulls another petal off of the corsage. "and all of my friends are all busy entertaining their own dates. but what's it to you?" she casts a glare at you over her shoulder. "you're just a stranger."
as you turn to walk away, your plus one pushes past you and offers to dance with her. after some convincing, they both enter the ballroom, and after a few songs, the deer asks to move in with you! she really enjoys the company of your plus one.

"just awful," the stag whines, resting his head on his forelegs. "my date is home with food poisoning. this was supposed to be our big first date, you know?" you pat him on the back and offer him your drink. he takes a long swig. you sit together for a while before he thanks you and leaves the party.

you approach a cloudeer staring blankly at a yellow rose bush. "oh!" he says, jumping a little bit. "sorry, you startled me. it's a pleasure to meet you too." he returns to staring at the rose bush. "i'm sorry, i'm not really in the head space to talk or party right now. i'm going to leave soon, so you can take this." he hands you his mask.

there's a chorus of short-lived mumbles from one corner of the garden. "horrible," one grumbles louder than the rest. he looks up at you with scrutiny. you realize it's the doorman currently off-shift and regret looking over at him, as he spits at your feet.

sorry this took so long!! what was supposed to be a half hour appointment became four hours long and took up most of my evening, and the rest was spent writing this.
