Several people added coal to the fire tonight, and as the last one was dropped in, it went out. In it's place, it left several things; prizes, in a way, for it's contributors.

short story; The hound was a mess up, not just to humans but even within it's own kind. While the hounds normally have a thick layer of skin and fur hiding their inside, this hound has a mutation that left its skin clear, almost completely see through. Everyone, and thing, thought that would make the hound weaker than the others, and at first they where right. Easily bleeding, having a higher natural body temperature, and the point that it would leave burn marks in it's path made the life for the hound extremely dangerous and challenging at first, expectantly when it was a pup and had no clue how to control itself. Also, due to the mutation, the others didn't want to be around it to much, fearing it would be a risk to their life to be seen with it. So it was shunned, having to teach itself how to hunt and take care of itself. It ended up learning, picking up tricks and finding its own way to hunt. It luckily tended to stay alive after the humans, having had been able to play dead and blend in with the deadly atmosphere around all of them. But the fighting ended, and it knew it couldn't stay hidden forever... As years went by, a layer of coal like skin started to form in some areas, leaving the rocky pattern it has on it now. Although it doesn't completely cover it yet, and who knows if it ever will, it has helped overs be friendlier towards it. Although its interactions with others have still been few and far between, it decided to come out to see others for the Doomsday festival, hoping to connect with some others hounds and maybe find a human to take care of it, to help it build the connections it lost as a pup.
(I'm not sure how much this matches up with the actual species, this is just what came to mind between looking at it and reading the intro on the first post. Sorry if any of it is wrong or if I missed anything.)

short story; The hound awoke with a start, it's pads rubbing the hard stone ground of the mountain. His hot yellow eyes swarmed the area. He knew it was almost the day. The molten rock that covered his flesh and fur was scolding. He was not like the other hounds, with little rock on them, all charred flesh and cracked skin. The mountain was not very small, but yet not large in the slightest. And there was a coal mine just above them. He sighed, his breath steaming. He roamed around the empty cave that he lived in, not sure what was about to begin. The other hounds began to thrash around, the mountain shaking under his paws. He glanced up, and feared that they would kill themselves. But nothing happened to them, only the ones above. The mine fell to it's end, some of the humans had already died. He cursed. The hounds emerged, happy to see light once more. Only to find that the humans were afraid, they shot the other hounds with small rounds bullets, killing his fellow hounds and then making him watch slowly. The bullets bounced off of his molten outside, and he howled in agony. His packmates were dying all around him and he couldn't save them all. His mate, another hound, had been cornered by the humans, he barked fiercely, and just as the bolt almost hit her, he blocked it. His tail knocking it out of the way of her, and he growled, showing his teeth. The human looked at him inquiringly, and then back at his mate, the hound growled. But the human only stared. He lashed his tail, warning the human to go away. The human looked away hesitantly, and then scrambled off. The hound stayed by his mate, protecting her from any blows that came near. If he couldn't save everyone else, he should at least save one. He watched the fight go on, the hounds reluctant to kill the humans, just hurt them. His mate hid under his tail. He noticed one human though, standing and watching the fight, he looked at it, it wasn't doing anything. The human, it was the one that studied him. He cocked his head. The daylight was running out, the sun was setting. He needed to know more. But he was reluctant to do so.
The fighting eventually ceased to a somewhat stop. And he still wondered about that human. What had changed inside of it's heart, that it wouldn't touch another hound? It was confusing. After two days, he still wondered. But then something wondrous happened. He felt the molten rock fall from his body, and the cracked skin in his ears recede. But he did not, again, look like the others, brightly colored fur covered them. But he was different, he had rocks and lava running down them. He looked at his skin, and at the fur the other hounds received. He was jealous. He felt different. All of the hounds were taken away, except for him. They were given to owners, whom they now loyally protect, after they just killed all of their kind? What was wrong with them? The hound stayed peacefully by itself, trying to stay away from others, it did not want to leave. After all, what good was a hound that had lava running through it's skin and veins. His yellow eyes stared into the soul they'd say. Make stories of the lava hound, make him seem as if he was the bane of existence. The stories became deeper, more elaborate, and much, much more worse. He was alone. Even his mate had been taken away from him. But he still wondered, even after all that was done against him, why the human stopped. He slept that day, the day the human took him away.
He woke up in a cage, it was fireproof of course. And he saw it, the human. The human smiled when it realized he was awake. The hound looked at it, he could tell it was a she. He studied her as she studied him. She was wearing gloves. He stepped back. Then the human did something he wouldn't imagine, she opened the door to the cage. He stared at her again, was she crazy? He could kill her just by touching her. He could melt her hands off, harm her in any way possible. He carefully stepped out, the ground was fine, hard and cold. Then she did another unbelievable thing, she reached out her gloved hand, and kneeled down. He stopped in his pawsteps. Then turned around to face her once more. He walked a little closer. She reached out farther, a little impatient. He snorted. She was taking risks. He stared at her hand and lay his ears flat against his head. Then stuck his muzzle onto her palm. The gloves didn't melt, nor did she wince in pain. He was shocked. She laughed, her face brightening, the gloves had worked. He struggled to figure this wonder out. A few days passed, he slept in the cage, and she would touch him with the gloves, running her hand down his ears, and down his spine. He was growing on her. He eventually slept next to her bed, on the hard ground. One day, she got up early. He was up, but pretending to sleep. She whispered in his ear softly, "You are Apollo, my little sun god."

also, the original owner died, that is why it's in need of a home now, just to clear that up)
