I am looking to adopt... Picture:
Kennel number: 11
Name: Rikki
Breed: Canine - Dhole
Why do you want this animal and what will you do for it?: I've looked in this thread a few times and she's always caught my eye - but I figured she would be popular so I wouldn't use my first time adopting to try out for her.. But she's still here, still beautiful, and I know in me that I would be drawing her constantly. Her colours are stunning to me, and I think they play very well on eachother. I can see a lot of directions to take her and it makes me really inspired.
Personality: She's definitely spunky, she's got a lot of sass and likes industrial music. She's boyish and will either go around as androgynous or as a tomboy, she doesn't care about roles or gender because she thinks it's a stupid idea to look at with someone. She loves playing games - strategy is her strong point but she can play a few rpg-style or card games. She isn't loud per say, but she's got a very defined voice that you could pick out in a crowd. She can end up being too rough in her comments, but she'll be quick to apologize if someone gets hurt. A mild kleptomaniac, but she can normally resist the urge if she's with her friends. Keeps herself with her small group of friends - nobody else is really important to her.
Likes: video games, chess, drum & bass, camping, jogging, mangos, the colour electric blue, shiny things
Dislikes: fireworks, seafood, airplanes, writing, television, the sound of scissors cutting paper
History/Background: I'm horrible at this, wow. Basic facts... She got her left hindfoot burned by a firecracker when she was a kid - she was at an uncle's house who has a lake in his yard. She's got a residential fear of the popping noises that fireworks make, but she sets off a lot to prove to herself nothing will happen. Her right ear is floppy because she got it stuck in a door once and the nerves got damaged - she can't feel that part of her ear now. Got her tongue pierced as soon as she was on her own, later regretted it and let it heal up. The marks on her thigh are self-done tattoos, not sure what yet. Counting years or times? Need to think that part over.
I did do a short word-sketch, on her reuniting with an old friend.. (kinda dumb and not much history wise though?)
Another sip of her peach tea had warmed her up to a chat with the boy next to her, something was pulling her in about him and she knew she needed to spark something. His hair was fried and bleached almost white, and though he had mostly pearly scales on his arms and face, she saw tufts for blue merle poking out from under his hair and in wisps hanging from his tail. His floppy ears twitched as she talked nonchalantly, and she noticed the marks from piercings lost long ago, and the holes where he had newly-made gauges poking out. His eyes were fogged but he still looked at her with some type of respect - how did she know him?
The music had changed between their first few exchanges, and they both turned in their seats to look at the crowd. Rikki had to laugh at the younger kids who felt great for "sneaking" in, everyone knew they were underage but they had to have some sort of fun in times like these. She set down her glass on the dark maple wood of the bar, and she finally worked up her nerve to ask this guy who he was. He cocked his head sharply in surprise, but he relaxed and smiled at her, knowing her hostility was faked.
"My name's Zach, I'm from a few towns west. Used to live in those old brick buildings they stuck the crazy ones in. Mum left us when we crossed the border coming up here, me and my brother went our own ways after that."
"Where at, exactly? I'm from out there too and I knew a few kids who lived up top at night. Mostly takin' what we could and hiding during the day." Memories of metal roofs, bruised legs, and lots of running flooded her mind. She relished the smell of the dust in the air those nights, a reminder of where she came from and how things changed.
"Oh, I spent the most time in Carrid until a friend hooked me up with a ride up north where I could get a few docs changed." He had a crooked smile, and his teeth showed a history of beatings in every chip and space, and she remembered. She looked to him in shock, as if his words were a dream, and she grabbed him. He needed to leave with her, because the walls here were not solid and she couldn't risk getting brought out. She left money on the counter and hugged him tightly, silently daring the world to try to force them apart.
"Trust me," she whispered, and she led him out onto the street where he would have a place to stay.
