Ari's First Quest
~ Written by The Writer
"Another quest, father?" Ariana asked, sitting upon the bed her father slept in and watched him pack. Her father smiled, creases forming from the smile she had seem countless times before. He was wearing his shrouded armor, one of his favorite sets of armor he had received.
"Yes, I'm doing some tasks for an alchemist's research." Ariana's face seemed to lit up.
"Can I come, please?" She had asked this question countless times, but the reply had always been the same. She had always been too young to go on such quests. This one seemed easy enough for even a young child like her could complete. Her father paused, thinking intently on the question.
"...I think you're old enough to come with me." Ariana squealed and hugged her father with all of her might. She ran to her room, pulling out a small satchel to store her things. She stood there for a while, thinking of what to bring. She had packed her two wooden swords that her father had enchanted for her. They might deal little damage, but she was very stubborn on bringing them. For a while more she sat there, until her father came into her doorway.
"You won't be needing much. Take your cloak with you though and let's go." He was all ready to go while Ariana wasn't quite done. He towered over the small Ariana and probably could knock her down with a gentle push. Ariana nodded and grabbed her cloak. It was fine and light. It was too big for her but it kept her well hidden during the day. During the night she could just simply walk around and perfectly blend in with her surroundings, if she made sure her silver belly didn't show.
So they set off, riding on the back of her father's horse Shadowmere. They stopped every so often to grab strange items for the alchemist's research. It finally started to darken, and the world went quiet. A cold wind swept past Ariana, blowing her fur in all sorts of direction and chilled her to the bone. She shivered as she looked into the distance. A huge fire danced in the distance, yearning for Ariana to lay beside it. Ariana herself longed to be in her bed, fast asleep. Instead she was speeding on the back of a horse in a dark windy night. No moon shined overhead, whether it was covered by clouds or a new moon no one could tell. She stared at the fire in the distance, noticing it was becoming bigger as they got closer. Ariana shivered again as her father looked at her from over his shoulder.
"We have one more stop and then we can go home, I promise." Ariana nodded and looked at the fire. There was a large tent beside it and a herd of mammoth asleep nearby. A tall giant sat beside the fire, staring at the burning coals as the spark flew overhead. Her father slowed Shadowmere down where they stood out of earshot of the giant.
"I just need some mammoth tusk powder, nothing more. You stay here." Ariana pouted as she looked up at him in the dark.
"Can't I come? I won't do anything." She begged and tried to look as persuasive as possible. Her father sighed.
"Don't get into trouble." With that he slid off of his saddle. Ariana squealed softly in victory. She softly slid off of the back of the saddle and followed him. He started to walk away from the fire. Ariana looked at him, then at the warm welcoming fire. Without even processing the consequences she slinked toward the fire. Her belly was touching the ground, almost dragging on it, but not making a sound.
The giant grunted and stirred. She got close to the fire and paused, looking up. Across the fire from her was the giant, staring straight at her. Ariana let herself get caught, but how? Perhaps her silver belly gave it away. Or maybe it was her eyes. Her milky blue eyes that was reflecting the fire that danced and swayed with sparks flying overhead and the embers burning red. She froze, scared stiff and didn't know what to do. So Ariana just laid there, staring straight into the eyes of the giant. Her eyes, were as big as saucers, and she tried hard not to blink.
They just stared at each other, Ariana not daring to move and who knows why the giant didn't move. Maybe he didn't see her as a threat but more of a wild creature seeking the warmth of a fire? Or perhaps he was curious, because there were few Jellybean Dragons ever sighted in Skyrim, suppose Ariana was the first one he saw? It didn't matter, because they just stood there staring. Finally the giant yawned. It was loud, and almost like a tuba being tuned. He took a large bucket full of water and dumped it over the fire. He stood there for a second before speaking.
"You can sleep here, but stay away from my mammoth cheese." The giant soon retired to his tent. Ariana seizes this opportunity and scampered off to Shadowmere. Her father sat on his horse. When Ariana threw her cloak on and climbed onto the horse behind him he spoke.
"You went into the camp."
"I know I did, but I was curious."
"I thought I told you to stay away from trouble."
"You did, and I disobeyed you, but please let me come on your quests! I'll behave."
"Promise?"
"I promise."
He smiled and hugged her, then they sped away to Riften. The wind had stopped blowing but there was still a chill. Ariana clung onto her cloak as of it were her blanket. Thinking of home and how warm it was. And how there weren't any giants to stare at her. ♥

The Tall Statue
~ By my best friend who's pen name is Megan Bennet
Ariana is a tall statue, towering over everyone else. Yet, the statue is strong and independent.
This statue has a simple beauty that stands out among more elaborate ones.
Also, it is gleaming as bright as the stars in the sky and pure, gleaming white, but yet, it has copper stains from where it has been tarnished by the rains.
The statue's metal is strong, yet fragile where the heart is exposed.
Where the heart has been exposed, there are pieces of wayward metal that it still
clings onto dearly, as if it still holds the memories of the past.
