Count Paris, a very eligible noble man, asks Lord Capulet for Juliet's hand in marriage. However, Lord Capulet denies him Juliet's hand in marriage, but allows Paris to court Juliet. He sends one of his servants with the list of guests for his yearly party. Meanwhile with the Montagues, when Romeo confesses that he is upset because he loves Rosaline but she doesn't love him back, Benvolio tells Romeo to look at other women to distract him from Rosaline. Then, the servant that Lord Capulet sent to send the invitations, walked up to Romeo and Benvolio and asked them to read the guest list for him. When Romeo reads the guest list, he finds out that Rosaline is going to the party. He is urged by Benvolio to go to the party to look at other women, but Romeo only agrees to go because he wants to see Rosaline.
