What does it take to be a member? I would like an orb, but I don't know if I'm considered a full, existing member.

To explain being a member you must fit into one of the following categories:
[x] you own a previous special event pet but you're not in the bank
[x] your name is in the bank (regardless of your total)
[x] or you've sent in a trade before this event started (bc there are several pending atm)

Don't be discouraged if you're not a 'member', this is merely a member loyalty special event but there are other events which you can actually become a member at the same time that you decide to participate. (if that makes sense, my brain is tired and full of fail atm)

I don't understand the raffle thing.

Raffle means that you either keep your original orb if you lose or you forfeit your original orb for the rare orb if you win. Basically you don't really lose anything, you just have the chance to trade up for a more rare orb pet.
