Prologue:
So It all started when I was six years old. I woke up to the sound of my mom’s blood curling scream in the living room, and I ran downstairs. When I got to the sight of the scene every inch of the room was drenched in what looked like purple smoke. I couldn’t see much because the smoke was started to make me sick. I was about to step inside to take a look when inside the cloud of smoke was a flash. I jumped back onto the couch with horror and dug my head under the couch pillow when suddenly I felt a hand on my back. When I looked up all I saw was the smoke getting closer and closer to me. I was about to scream but stopped when a tall blond haired lady stepped out of the smoke. She looked at me with a worried glance and sat me down. “Who are you!?” I demanded. “Honey its about time we told you something..” she replied as she took out a beautiful thin stick out of her pocket. With one swirl of her stick in the air, standing before me was my mother.
Chapter One:
New Beginnings
My name is Celestial McMillian, I am fourteen years old and currently am attending Topsail Middle in Hampstead, North Carolina. Its an ordinary school of course, boys, lockers, sports. Everything a girl can dream of right? No. Not exactly. Right now it’s the summer of the eighth grade and I’m getting ready to go off to high school. I’m not sure where yet but I still have a month to figure it out. This was the last time I would be seeing any of my friends and I had to make the best of it. The worst thing was that I had nothing good planned for summer. Nothing. My mom is always so eager for me to get a head start in my high school work. My dad.. Not so much. My dad and I are very close, and the idea of me leaving home makes him very uneasy. So as far as I knew everything within these 3 months would be just like always. However, there was so little that I knew.
* * * *
When I got home that evening my parents were on the couch deep in conversation. “Agreed!?”. “Yes honey, but.” “We both know everything’s going to be fine! She’ll love it there!”. “Mom? Dad?” I said as I walked awkwardly into the living room. They both looked and each other and my dad stood up. “Honey. We got a letter from the Grienbay Academy of Svitzven this morning. They want you to come to their academy on a scholarship”. I looked up “Wow. Really? Wait. How did they hear about me?” I said confused. “It’s a magic school in the mortal world. It’s in the town of Svitzven, Hierheart. I think you’ll love it there.”
When the last Friday of my school year was over, it had been decided. I would leave in three days for Grienbay Academy of Svitzven. There was a lot of packing to do, and what should I wear on the first day? This school is a lot different than many schools. As my parents said earlier, this school was enchanted. A school where I would be getting my powers, learning about them, and learning to use them. In case you didn’t know magic schools have Queens not principals, and Queens are very different. Queen Chasele (the schools head advisor), is in charge of everything every student does while attending Grienbay, and you have to have her permission to do anything. Also each student had their own dorm (yes the school is that big), but the dorms are very small. Grienbay also has many clubs, classes, and sports. Did I mention in the mortal world the days are reversed? Night time in the mortal world is day time in the human world, and day time in the mortal world is night time in the human world. Get it?
Three days later I was all packed up and ready to go. I was to board a train at 8:30 am in the morning. My mom had to drive me to a “invisible” train station 35 minutes away from our house. Each and every magic school has their very own “invisible” train station. Invisible meaning only immortals could see it. The train station is located in an abandoned underground railroad station. I walked outside and began loading my stuff into the car. “Are you sure your ready for this?” said Mom. I shrugged. “We’ll see when I get there”.
Chapter Two:
Never Ending Supply of Strangers
When we arrived at the train station at 8:20 I began boarding my suitcases onto the train. When I hugged my mom goodbye everything changed. My level of curiosity changed, level of bravery, and level of comfort. This train station was just plain creepy. Does that guy have the head of a human and the body of a horse!?
When I boarded the train it automatically took of all by itself! I barely fell out of my seat. These trains traveled fast! I sat down in my chair on the train and began reading my favorite series “Diamonds of Death”. I got to about chapter 5 when there was a rush of wind on my shoulder. I looked around to see a black cat sitting on a stack of suitcases in the seat next to me. Suddenly my stuff slid under my seat, I looked up to see a girl with wavy gray hair holding my stuff. “Here.” I was able to catch it before it fell out. “The names Lydian” the girl responded. “I think your cat got away” I replied. “Um. No. I’m a shape-shifter. That was me”. “Oh.” I replied.
“What! A shape-shifter!? Okay, this is seriously a p.r.a.n.k!” I thought to myself. “Well I should get to sleep. We have a long day ahead of us” I said. “Umm.. Okay” she replied. Lydian slowly walked away and scooted into her seat.
Three hours later I arrived at Grienbay academy with no clue where my dorm was, or whom my friends would be. I whirled around to see Queen Chasele looking down at me. “Your dorm.. Is on the third floor in building 3A next to Lydian Kingston’s room, your room 506.” she said. “Lydian? The same one who was on the train with me?” I wondered.
I ventured around the campus for a while, just checking out all the people, activities, and classes going on there. This semester I was to take Wand Magic (instead of hand magic), Honors Biology, Cauldron Class, and Sword Fighting. There was so much to do and so little time, so first I decided to decorate my dorm.
When I got back to my dorm, Queen Chasele was sitting on my bed. She smiled. “Didn’t you know every student gets to decorate their room just the way they want?” I grinned. “Lets get to it. What color do you want your room? Would orange work?” she planned. “Do you have sky blue with yellow polka dots?” I asked. “Certainly, and what size bed? Twin or Queen?” “Twin please” I responded.
Soon my dorm looked like this..
Walls are Sky Blue with Yellow Polka Dots
Bed spread is pink, and sheet cover is yellow
Lamp is a lava lamp that turns on and off when you tell it to
Bed side table is Orange and Purple
Two carpets: One a Dolphin, and the other a pixie
Fluffy chair in the corner with magical book case that gives you any book you want
Snack stand in corner by reading stand and music area
King sized bathtub and large sink
Huge makeup, and spa kit in bathroom
Frame around mirror is white and pink polka dotted
Sink is plain white
Emergency Escape room is in a secret door in the bathroom, to enter you press the third button on the yellow and orange hair dryer
So that is pretty much my room! Pretty sweet huh?
Chapter Three:
Blocks of Curiosity
So today was officially my first day of Grienbay, and I had a lot of free time because school didn’t start until Monday! That’s exactly 3 days from now so I have a lot of time to mingle, eat, sleep, and do whatever it is teenagers do here.
I laid my head on my bed, and looked out the window. I saw two seniors bullying a new freshman. “Oh no you didn’t!” I said aloud in my room. “Wait a sec. Are my hands glowing?” I was freaking out. “What is going on!?” I screamed. I heard a voice in my head “Your full powers are here.” I turned around. I heard the voice again “Meet me in my office, we have talking to do”. “Is this Queen Chasele” I said aloud. “Yes.” she replied.
Ten minutes later I met Queen Chasele at her office in Lynbrook. Lynbrook is a town on the campus that belongs to King Gerald who died over the years so now the property belong to Queen Chasele. I opened the door to her office. I stepped inside and “Woah!” this place is huge. “Hello? Anyone here?” I shouted. “Quiet. You might wake the pixies!” said the Queen as she floated down from the ceiling. “I’ve been waiting for you” she replied. “So. What did I do?” I replied. She smiled. “Nothing of the sort! I’ve come to talk to you about your powers. Celestial you understand how your parents are very powerful sorcerers right?”. “Yes mam.” “Well your next in line to be of the three most powerful sorcerers in the world. Your powers are yet determined. You will be very powerful and will be sent on great quests one day. We just need to figure out how to control and teach you to use your powers.” she looked down. “What is it?” I whispered. “If you use your powers unwisely it could lead to major issues along the campus. That’s why only you and I must know about your powers.” she answered “So basically I’m the most powerful wizard on the campus right now!?” I said. “Yes, but don’t get too excited. This also means there’s a 50% chance you’ll get in trouble rather than the other students.” I frowned down at my sneakers. “Unless. You use them wisely.” she replied. “Tomorrow at 1 pm you will be having private lessons with Master Corel tomorrow until 2:30. If you don’t succeed by then the classes will be longer.”
When I got back to my room I ate breakfast and then went out for my morning run. So many things were crossing my mind. Three main sorcerers? Me one of them! This had to be wrong. I hadn’t been important since my third grade ballet recital at Civil Elementary! This really made we wonder what I could do to some people. Would I be a threat here?
I circled around the block and was met wide eyed with a black cat. “Hey there buddy” I said with uncertainty. I jogged past the cat and made my way on my journey. When I circled around the other block I heard footsteps behind me. I turned around and there was the cat again! Is this cat following me? I thought to myself.
When I got back to my building there was no sign of the cat around so I ran upstairs and to my hallway. “Hi.” I turned around. Standing before me was a tall brown haired guy. I blushed. “Umm. Hi?” I replied. “I didn’t mean to startle you. I knew you were knew here and I thought you might need a hand with unloading your stuff.” he asked. “Um. Actually I’m done unloading my stuff but thank you.” I responded. “The name’s Andrew” he shook my hand. “I’m Celestial.” “Well Celestial, if you ever need anything give me a call”. He took out pen and a piece of paper and wrote down his phone number. I took the slip. “Thanks.” I quickly ran inside my room and slammed the door behind me. “Okay. Cute guy!” I whispered to myself.
I spent the next 5 minutes thinking about my “ability”. Wait a second. The Queen said that there was three people like me. Who was the other?
I picked up my cell phone and dialed the Queen’s office. “Queen Chasele at your service” she replied. “Queen Chasele….” I began. “I must not speak right now I’m busy thank you!” she hung up. That was weird, I thought to myself. I put the phone back down and headed to the Café’ across the street from my building. I had 5000$ bucks to spend wisely while I was here. Yes. My parents are that generous. I road my bike to Mel’s Café’ and Diner and sat in one of the booths. I drifted off into my own thoughts until a waiter came up to me. “What can I get you?” she replied. “Um. A grilled cheese sandwich, and a Dr. Pepper please.” The waiter walked away to place my order.
My food arrived and I took the time to think while I ate. “Maybe I should stop by her office again today” I whispered to myself. I asked the waitress to get me the bill. When the bill arrived I left a 5 dollar tip and road my bike to Lynbrook.
When I got to Lynbrook the Queen was talking to a burly man in front of her office. “Queen Chasele.” I said with uncertainty. “Celestial, I can explain” she began. “Don’t. Who’s the other sorcerer?” I spoke angrily. “You weren’t supposed to know..” she began. “Stop. Just tell me.” I spat. “Fine. The other sorcerer is.. Lydian Kingston.”
