The crunching of the leaves was the only thing heard for miles as the horse galloped in the forest, a girl riding it.
"Whaaaa!" She screamed as the horse suddenly stopped and stood on it back legs. The girl fell off. She sprang up quickly and grabbed the reins of the horse before it could run off.
"Whoa girl, calm down." She said to the horse. She walked forward to see why the horse stopped and found herself looking at a small agitated river. She sighed.
"Danica you stupid girl!" she said to herself. "Pay attention next time." Danica grabbed the reins of the horse, and began walking with her along the river.
"Well, horse," she began,
"I've had you for a couple of weeks now, I think you need a name." The horse only snorted. As she walked along the river, Danica started muttering possible names when she thought of one she liked and said it out loud,
"Cloud!" She looked at the horse, who obviously didn't care.
"Well Cloud, I think we should start to get to know each other." she said, still looking for a way to cross the river.
"I'm 16 and originally from New Jersey. Well, I don't even know if we've left yet." Danica lightly laughed at that.
"I was a freshman in high school when this all started. This... mess. You see, when all this started, no one in New Jersey really cared. It was all the way across the state in Washington. Hell, me and some of my friends even started making jokes of how could it would be, a zombie apocalypse.
"But when it started getting closer, that's when everyone realized how bad it was getting. Especially when it hit in North Virginia. But before that everyone was starting to pair off in groups. I was alone at first, until my one friend Mike had a fight with his friends. We kinda started hanging out more, then after being sick for a while Joe came back and started sticking with us. And finally came Bailey. She didn't have a group and was my friend since 6th grade. And there was are group, two freshman, one sophomore, and one senior. And that was school. Everyone was in their own groups and hardly anyone talked to one another unless you were in the same group." Danica sighed and brushed some of her blonde hair out of her face.
"That was school..." she sighed. She stopped talking and continued walking with her horse. Only stopping when Cloud wanted to drink or eat grass.
"Well, we're here." she said as they came upon a fallen tree..
"I'll go first." she said to the horse. She carefully walked across the tree, hoping it wouldn't roll as she crossed.
"There!" She said when she was over.
"Come on Cloud!" she said. Danica was still holding the reins over the river and tugged on them to encourage Cloud to come over. Cloud slowly started walking on the tree.
"There we go. Almost there. You can do it girl!" Danica said encouragingly to the horse as she crossed. It was going well until at the end, Cloud slipped and panicked. She partly fell in river and pulled herself out, nearly dragging Danica when she tried to run away.
"Calm down Cloud!" she said, trying to keep from running. Cloud soon calmed down after dragging Danica a couple of feet.
"Well, let's go!" Danica said, hoping back on Cloud. "I saw a sign before the river that said there was a town a couple of miles from here. Everything seems to be going gre-... Never mind!" Danica said slightly worriedly as she saw what looked like six or so zombies heading towards her and Cloud...
I know the first part isn't much, but I have more planned for this story. Should I continue?
