I Never Left You
As the wind howled outside her cave, Akira buried her nose farther into her paws, breathing hotly to warm them. The storm's wind changed direction swiftly, and white shards of icy snow flew into the dark, cold, hole. She shut her blue eyes tightly to avoid having snow slapped into them, muttering a curse as her muzzle was covered with the freezing substance.
Standing up slowly, the silver she-wolf turned around and lied down again, facing away from the cave entrace. Sighing, she looked at the rocky wall in front of her. Akira instantly snapped her head away, letting out a shuddering breath. Carved into the wall was a heart, and inside the heart was two names. Each was delicatly clawed in deep, making sure that they would never fade away...
Akira + West.
The silver she-wolf took a deep breath and looked back at the wall, staring intently at the carving. Picking up a paw, she laid her pad on it. Akria felt each and every groove of the heart and the names, remembering who made this and when.
"Akria! Come and see this!"
Akria pricked her ears and trotted over to her den, the spring grass soft underpaw. She poked her head inside, spotting the owner of the voice in no time. West sat at the back of their den, a wide smile on his face, and his tail thumping agaisnt the floor.
"What is it, West?" she said, tipping her head as she tried to evaluate her mate's behavior.
The black wolf grinned wider as he stood up and stepped aside, revealing a carving in the wall. A heart with their names in it!
"Oh, West!" Akria cried happily. She padded over to the carving and stared at it lovingly. The details were fine and beautiful, "Oh... it's amazing... How did you-" Akria turned around to ask West a question, but cut herself off as she saw him.
Between his teeth, held delicaitly was a single red rose. The thorns were stripped from it's stem, symbolising love at first sight- which was very true. The moment they met, it was meant to be.
West stepped forward towards his mate, and slipped the rose carefully behind her ear. It perched there, standing out beautifully against her silver coat. "There," he said, licking her cheek free of joyfull tears, "You're wonderful and amazing in every way, my love."
Akria opened her mouth to say something, but she couldn't find the words. Shutting her jaw, she pushed her head into her mates black fluffy chest, "I love you..." She whispered, smiling.
West brought his paws up and wrapped them around her back, "Love you too..." he said softly into her ear.
Now that was a distant memory. It will never be again, she thought. I never be with another male. Never. It would be wrong to be with any other wolf but West. My West.
Deep in thought, Akira noticed something odd. It was strangely quite... Turning her head, she looked over her shoulder and outside. The snow had stopped compeltely.
Standing shakingly, the silver she-wolf padded out of the entrance, blinking as the whiteness of the world reflected back on her eyes. As she adjusted to the light difference, she saw a shaft of oddly bright sunlight. It poured through a hole in the trees, creating a pool of gold. Inside the golden light, there was a pale blue whisp. The whisp moved and...blinked? It looked like... like a wolf. But that can't be right, Akria thought.
She stepped closer to the whisp-wolf, peering at it carefully. The wolf blinked again, and smiled. "Akria..." It said, it's voice echoing with a pleasent melody, "Akria, it's me." It said again.
Through all the echoing, Akria noticed and reccoized the tone, the way her name rolled off the wolf's tounge. She ahd heard it before, calling her name, laughing, playfully growling and then whispering 'I love you' into her ear.
"West?"
West nodded gentally, smiling widely now. Sitting back on his hind paws, he opened his front up wide, inviting his lost mate.
With a strangled cry, Akria threw herself at West, surprised and joyed by how real he felt, even though she could see the trees through him. She nuzzled his chest and licked his cheek over and over, hot tears running down her face. West ducked his head and licked the tears away, murmuring sweet nonsense.
Akria choked in a breath, stuttering over her words, "I-is it r-really y-you, West?" She asked softly.
"Yes... It is." he replied, wrapping both front paws around her back like he used to. "I miss you, love..."
"I-I miss you too..." Akria said shakily, "I still love y-you.."
West laughed softly, his voice echoing, "And I love you, Akria." He placed his head down on her's, sighing into silver fur. "You still look beautiful, ya know..."
"Mm.." She hummed in reply, speechless.
Akria didn't know how this was happening. Maybe she had died, or maybe it was just as it seemed. West's sprirt had came back to her. Right now, she only knew two things. She didn't want to leave this spot, ever. If she could stay here in her mates forepaws forever, she would. She had missed him so much when he had died and left her...
But Akria smiled and laughed as she looked on her second thing she knew, for it would always be true.
He had never truly left her... He had always been there.
Yeah... He never left...
