Oh no, Shadow doesn't have blue eyes.
Dear SJ,
Violet stared at me like I'd just grown another head.
"You... you know my brother?" she stammered, dropping the photo.
I nodded and stood up.
"He's... well..."
I told her all about Derek and the Elites.
"I figured he'd turn out strange," she sighed.
"I just would've never guessed..." I trailed off.
There was a loud thumping sound from downstairs.
Violet leaped off the bed, alarmed.
"What was that?" I hissed, padding to the door.
There was nothing in the hall when I peeked out, and the entire downstairs was empty.
The sounds were coming from the basement.
I slowly opened the basement door, Violet right behind me.
"Always thought there was nothing down there," she whispered, a hint of fear in her voice.
Weird.
I never really thought of Violet to be the fearful type.
We started down the creaky steps, the thumping growing ever so loud.
At the bottom of the steps, we stood pressed against the wall, scared out of our minds.
"I brought a flashlight," Violet said unsteadily.
All of a sudden a beam of light shot into the darkness, illuminating the entire basement.
Now that I could see properly, I noticed some creepy things.
Spiderwebs hung from the rafters and very old furniture lined the walls; some scary dolls were sitting on a sofa while a couple others rested on a rotting wooden nightstand.
But there was one thing in particular that freaked me out the most.
Blood had apparently been splattered against the concrete wall opposite of us. The sweet, metallic coppery scent overwhelmed me, and my wings fluttered nervously.
I could barely hear anything over the loud bangs and thumps.
"We should go," Violet whispered.
She made no effort to hide the fear now.
I couldn't say I blamed her.
Then something gripped my left shoulder.
"Violet, let go of me," I growled.
"What? I'm not touching you," she replied.
I noticed that Violet was on my right side, not my left.
Shocked realization caused chills to chase each other up and down my spine.
I screamed, batting at whatever had grabbed me.
It was here that I felt something hard slam into my neck.
The last things I heard were:
"LUX! Don't die!"
And then everything went black.
