Chapter 1
Katie
Katie awoke with a jolt, at first; not remembering what had woken her. Then, it hit her like an icy blast, the dream. She had been dreaming of a man, with jet black hair, and in her opinion, cruel black eyes. He had advanced on her, drawing his silver tipped knife and threatening to hurt, maybe even kill her while she cowered against the wall of the dimly lit room. He had told her that no harm would come to her if she just surrendered and gave her the power of Fire. She told him she didn’t know what he was rambling about, which he took as an act of defiance. He loomed over her, his black eyes raging with a fierce, cruel fiery anger, and brought his knife down to kill her. Then, just before the knife stuck, some on had burst in to the room. A boy, with dark hazel eyes and fiery red hair had yelled at her to wake, saying that she would never see the dawn of light again if she didn’t open her eyes now. Frightened and fearful, she had awaked, sweating, and with her heart beating against her rib cage in terror. She looked at her computer screen, seeing it was on, as if some on had shaken the mouse. Hardly daring to breath, she got up and slipped in to her black leather computer chair. She was distracted monetarily by the breaking of dawn just outside her bedroom window. She glanced at her computer screen, seeing the date. March 20th it read. Inside her, the cold terror of her dream melted like ice in the sun. It’s my birthday today! She thought happily. Then, she saw a single sticky not posted to the screen. That’s weird; she thought I thought I had deleted all of my sticky notes. She looked at the note, her pale red hair resting on her shoulder, and felt her terror return the note read; Fiend Alex, Samantha and Kaden. Stay away from the clutches of The Fallen. Do you understand Katie? Slowly, she reached out her arm, seeing with slight confusion that she was still wearing her school clothes from the day before, and typed an answer.
Yes.
Do you really? The reply shot back.
No. She typed, who are you?
Me? I thought you’d know. I’m the one who saved you seconds ago.
Katie felt slightly relieved. At least she knew this person was a friend.
A name? Am I permitted that? She asked.
Ben. That’s my name.
But…WHO are you?
I will not give away any more information till you have found me.
How? When? Where? And Why?
Go to the center of the hills. Will find your way from there. Hurry! Before The Fallen open your door.
-Ben
DO NOT reply back, I am being watched. Now Go!
Katie tore across her room, and locked it just as the handle began to turn. Whipping around the room, she grabbed a small navy blue pack, and began to throw thing she thought she would need into it. There was a yell of frustration, and raised voices as she shoved things into the bag.
“I told you Ben would interfere! He did so last night when I was about to kill the girl! What do you have to say for yourself Maz! Axel??! Your son has disobeyed orders AGAIN!” a sickeningly familiar voice yelled.
Katie froze. That voice, it was the same on she had heard in her dream. Not Ben’s, but the man’s.
“The fault is not mine, nor Axels.” a voice replied, a woman, maybe Maz, by the sound of it.
Then, just as Katie was slinging her bow and arrow archery kit over her shoulder, the door burst open with a loud bang. Katie stepped back, wide eyed and stared at the four people in front of her. The man from her dream, Max, by the sound of it, Maz, a slender women with icy red hair and fierce amber eyes, Axel, a tall man with light, almost white, blond hair, and cloudy blue eyes, and the last, was a young boy. The boy, was about nineteen, and looked as if he had the same, stocky, strong build as Max, and had slightly light black hair, and silvery-gray eyes. Suddenly, a burst of light flooded from Katie’s hand, and everyone in the room, including Katie, had to throw up their hands to shield their eyes from the sharp glow. Axel, Max and Max backed away to the corners of the room, while the boy, stayed in front of Katie.
“That’s it Anthony!” Axel yelled to the boy, “Get her!”
Anthony just started at Katie’s hand with a mixture of fear, and awe. Then, Maz leaped forward, and pushed Anthony back.
“Fool of a boy you are!” she yelled, “Get her before Ben interferes again!” she ended with a snarl, throwing her hand in front of her.
A red light shone in the palm of Maz’s hand, and a jet of flame shot toward Katie. Katie threw up her arm to shield her, and saw a red sword in her hand. Gasping in surprise, Katie hardly noticed that her room disappearing, as she was lifted momentarily off the ground. The, Katie felt her feet the ground with fierce impact. She crumpled to the ground, hardly noticing that she had arrived in some one’s campsite. She heard a shout of surprise, and slight worry, and pounding feet before the world went black.
