Chapter Six
Malx rubbed his temple, scowling fitfully as his Blue Roan stallion was lead to the stables by Leai. He met his father in the study.
"I do not want your lip, son. She is not hostile, simply stubborn to reason like her mother, damn the bitch." Galadel said, raising his hand as he spoke. "Make this girl sea Reason, no matter the cost, and take your throne as it was promised years ago." Galadel cried, his voice echoing and thundering against the chamber walls.
Malx could only stand and nod, no patience for arguing. His father was right. "Yes, father." H'e replied. With the simple wave, Malx left the chamber, and headed for his own.
In his own chamber, the prince stripped to bare skin, and soaked himself chest-high into bath water.
"She will see reason. Even if I have to make her bleed as she did me. Not to admit I do not like the she-witch either. Do I want to marry a devil girl? I think not." Malx snorted, taking a bar of soap in hand, and started to clean himself.
His self-loathing hadn't lasted long before a girl came in, dressed in her best tunic and dress. She was a slave, but they bleeds all well-kept.
"Sorry to disturb you, Prince Malx," She said, her voice soft and smooth, unlike most maids, their tones sour and idiotic. "but their was a dispute between stablehands and cleaners and I was told to send for you to handle the matter." She said, dipping her head. She stared at him as her rubbed himself free of suds, glad for the soapy water covering his flesh. When be stepped from the tub, she obliged to hand him a clean cloth from the rack, and wrap himself so he might not catch a cold.
"Between who, Mrs. Melai?" The blonde prince asked, taking a second towel to dry his soaked head. His green eyes stared softly at the maid, keen for her answer.
"Leai and Fenrch." Melai replied, taking a small strand of her red hair, and tucking it behind her pierced ear. Studded jade as a sign of a royal's slave. Different colored piercings gave a respect significance. Jade was one below Pearl, witch the Prince himself wore.
Malx nodded and dressed himself at a suitable pace, slipping on a loose leather tunic and leggings. H'e slipped on a pair of boots kept by the door, and started for the stables, only lingering to dismiss the young maid kindly.
Upon arriving, the first sight seen was Fenrch sitting against a stall door, glaring sharply at the ground. Their was a shallow cut along his boney cheek, and his nose was now crooked.
"You let a stable-hand beat you?" Malx asked, watching him through slitted eyes.
Fenrch sat silent, his pale gaze looking up at Malx, then retreating once more hastily. "H'e started it by not cleaning the courtyard of horse [censored]." H'e said, scowling.
Arms raised, Malx kept himself from slapping the older slave himself. "Leai's job is to keep the stables in tact. It's the gulio's job to keep the courtyard clean. Besides, why were you outside in the first place? You were due to be helping with the feast of my engagement tonight." Malx sneered sharply.
Fenrch snorted at the cobblestone floor, closing his eyes. The air stung the open cut on his cheek. Two of his fingers were broke, his nose too. Not to mention a rib or two as well.
"Go see the welich's. Have them heal you." Malx replied sharply, letting his words cut deep.
Fenrch said nothing but nodded at his Prince before heading out quietly.
Malx stared after him, and shoved his hands deep into his pants, heading the opposite way; a mean glare intended for Leai once he was found.
