"Just business..." I said, calming myself down from that reminiscent high. "Let's all go watch the cable here?"
"I'm warning you, Ben, there is hardly anything to watch." Tommo and I joked as we all walked back inside the tiny motel room that we called home, even if it really was just for tonight.
Tommo bounced on the bed while Ze slinked back into the room and onto the bed, hissing at Tommo, instantly making his happiness drop.
Ze gave this certain vibe that crushed all positive emotion, and a personality to prove it. I could notice how Tommo's mood changed every time Ze would hiss, or make a rude remark to him. Ze wasn't my favorite to be around, nor the best smelling, but neither was any of us. I plopped onto the floor and let out a huge sigh as my body melted onto the rough carpeting and took away what pain it could of the day. Rake turned on the television and surfed around the eighteen channels we had, but to nothing interesting we ended up watching a South African reality show.
"Hey, Tommo. I'm bored, wanna go for a walk around the motel?"
I was actually legitimately bored, and also, I really needed to talk to Tommo about some things.
As Tommo nodded and slowly jumped off the bed, I pushed myself up and wandered towards the door opening it to a darkened wonderland just like I could remember of my past home, walking around the housing place we lived in over, and over in darkness only lit by the yellow glow of the somber streetlights; just like how the motel parking lot was lit. We walked out into the warm African air, side by side and wandered over to the bus Rake had and leaned against it. I honestly really wondered how he got hold of this bus.
"Hey Tommo..." I squeaked. "Don't take this the wrong way, but why does Ze follow you around?"
He sighed and looked at the ground, shoving his hands in his pockets. "Well you see... he just started following me around after, well.... I'm hoping you can guess what happened."
I nodded, within a smile. We was talking about the incident with his father.
"I hate her." He mumbled under his breath.
"Pardon?"
"I hate her!" He yelled, tossing his head up, near to tears. He pushed himself back on to the bus in a thud and agitated state.
"Well, why don't you just get rid of her?" I said in a calm tone to hush him.
"I can't Ben. She's with me for life."
"Yes you can, Thomas." I stepped in front of him and pulled his head to mine, hands on his shoulders.
"Shh..." I calmed, taking on a sickeningly sweet motherly-state. "Calm down..."
"I just want her to leave..." Tommo whispered calming himself down.
I looked down to my amulet, which had caught my eye as its ruby eyes glow bright red.
"Ease your mind, Thomas. Your father can't hurt you now. Y'all are thousands of miles away from each other."
"My scars hurt, Ben."
"Shh... let them burn; Ease you mind."
Keeping our heads close together and eyes closed, I hushed Tommo into a twilight-state that had him almost erased from earth, and calm with his inner self. Keeping a sturdy hold onto his shoulders, I shook them gently, shaking him awake from that twilight induced state.
"Release your demons, Thomas. Your safe now, your father is just another man who lives on the same planet as you and I."
As I said that our door on the motel flung open and startled up into looking back and watching Ze fly out the door screeching: "YOU'LL NEVER TAKE HIM FROM ME!" Running at full speed, legs snapping to and fro. She truely scared Tommo. He cowered, shivered, and I grabbed and held him tightly as Ze closed in on is; I could feel her breath, smell the sewage on her breath as well, but nothing came.
Nothing.
"Are- Are we... dead?"
Tommo squealed as I turned around to see the empty, yellow motel lot with our door wide open and Rake peering out of it with a confused face.
"No... you're alive."
