Chapter 1: pg 1

Spring came late to the forest. The water was still frozen when the birds came back from flying south, and snow still lay on the ground( really though, it was more like slush then snow, but not quite) In a small hole dug into a hillside, a she-wolf lay nestled inside with her 3 newborn pups: Nyan, a black wolf who looked almost exactly like her mother, Nya, Ranku, a skinny brown male, and finally Marti, a silver coated female. Suddenly, pain gripped her stomach. She yelped in pain as a contraction shook her. It faded slowly, and then another gripped her even harder then the previous one. She howled, but the pups did not notice, for they were both blind and deaf. She wished that her mate Lupus would come and soothe her, but she knew that would never happen. A she-wolf never allowed another wolf into her den. Never. It was unheard of. She pushed with all her might, and then a small shape plopped out on to the ground. She immeadiatly leaned foward and nipped open the sac incasing the pup, and licked it clean. The pup's fur was a brilliant white color, she wondered about what to name it perhaps-. Suddenly she froze and her thoughts broke off. There was something wrong with the pup. She blinked, and sniffed it. It was small. Much too small. She blinked again, and felt sadness well up inside her. The pup, she thought, is not likely to survive the winter. It probably would not survive its first moon. She shook herself. It did not matter if she didn't think it would survive. It may.Hope. She must have hope. "Maia", she said softly. It had been her mother's name. A beautiful name. She looked at each of her pups slowly. Nya, Ranku, and Marti. And Maia. Now there was Maia

(Bump)

Okay this is the next part that other part was sort of like a prolouge and now this is in Maia's point of view. Enjoy!

"You know she won't be able to hunt when the time comes,". Nyan's voice was pitched to carry, so I could hear her all the way across the clearing where I lay. I snarled under my breath and gritted my teeth. Nyan had swung her head around and was staring at me, smiling smugly. I whined in frustration as my father Lupus lifted his head and stared at both of us before putting his head on his paws and closing his eyes. It frustrated me that Nyan and Ranku, who had grunted in agreement to Nyan's comment, were so obviously trying to prejudice Lupus and the rest of my pack against me. Just because I was smaller than them did not mean I couldn't hunt or survive. Ever since my birth my brother and sister had been constsantly teasing and taunting me, goading me into doing things that were not right, and getting me into a whole lot of trouble. Usually, I just tried to ignore them, but it was extremely hot today and I was tired and therefore more irritable then usual. I got to my paws and began to stalk towards them. Suddenly a silver shape appeared in front of me, blocking my way. It was my sister and best friend Marti. She was the only one of my littermates that was nice to me, so I was confused as to why she was trying to stop me. "What are you doing?" I asked "What are YOU doing?" she asked. "What does it look like I'm doing?" I growled. "I am going to teach those mangy, good for nothing whing meanies a lesson" Marti looked alarmed for a heart beat, and the she was calm. " You can't do that," She said. "And why can't I ?" I asked sharply. "Because...." she hesitated. She seemed reluctant to go on, but I all ready knew what she was going to say. She thought I was too small and weak to fight them! I stared at her in livid disbelief before pushing past her and racing over to where Nyan And Ranku lay. "I heard what you said" I said. "So?" Nyan said. "I can't beleve you would say that!" "Why wouldn't we?" jeered Ranku. "It is true you'll never learn to hunt, Runt,"
"I just cannot believe you would say that when you don't know how to hunt either. And you never will. You are just a bunch of cowards, always talking like you know everything and that you have done and will do so many brave things. Well you know what?" I lowered my voice. " I have never seen you do anything brave. Ever. You're just a bunch of cowards," I repeated. " Prove it," Nyan breathed. At first I did not know what to do. She was right. There was no way to prove it unless-. Suddenly I caught a sweet scent on the breeze, and I got an idea.
