•Ғα∂ιηɢ Light•

It's all peaceful in the clans, until bad things start to happen. As the water runs low, heat starts coming, then it changes to freezing cold snow, the weather changes quickly, and the prey is little. The clans are desperate to survive, and as they try, the four clans become blood thirsty and turn on each other. Secrets open up to each other, while differences come. What will it be like to survive? What surprises will come next? Will they solve the problem?

•Author's Notes•

Well, I would just like to say, thanks you everyone who reads this story, it is very much appreatiated. Every post urges me on, but if I don't get very much, It gets slow and I stop. I know, first of all, that stories don't get much attention here, but I'm willing to try. Believe it or not, I'm working to be an Author when I'm older, and I'm hoping this will be one of my books to first publish. I got inspired, by the one and only, Erin Hunter. My talents in writing is animals, since i'm in love with them. My favourite in writing is cats and dogs/wolves. this story is based on cats, which will be alike to Erin hunter. But some tweaks are in here, and I hope you like it! Please Post and comment.
Thanks,

Re: •Fading Light• A Cat Story ; Please Read!

• Prologue •

"This is a matter of life or death," growled Coalstar loudly to her clan as she stood on the High Oak, her fur bristling. The moon was high in the sky, and the clan cats were battle ready, their claws unsheathed, and their fur bristing, and their eyes glowing with anger. A tom cat sat at the base of the tree, his tail tip twitching with frustration. Coalstar narrowed her eyes and looked down at the tom. "Eaglewing, head out," she ordered firmly. The tom nodded, getting to his paws stiffly, as though he had been sitting for moons. Then he let out a yowl, with his head raised, and all the clan cats pounded out of the camp, their eyes glittering mischieviously. Dawnstar and the tom were at the head of the cats, their tails lashing.

"Coalstar, do you really think he will keep his promise?" asked the tom, his eyes narrowed as he looked thoughtfully at his leader as they walked. The cats behind them were muttering their words, talking to each other while they traveled upward. They had left the forest, now, and they were heading into an open meadow. Mist swirled around their paws as they carried on, and the moon was high in the sky now.

Coalstar bared her teeth and stopped to face her deputy. "Wavestar has always been a cat of his word," she told him, then turned and kept walking, murmuring, "But now I don't know, Eaglewing. Everything is different, with everything going on."

Eaglewing snarled, his fur bristling. "We will survive, no matter what BreezeClan intends to do," he reasurred her, not even knowing if it was helping himself, either. The clan took off up the hill, and there lay BreezeClan. Their tails were lashing, with their eyes narrowed.

"Well, Eaglewing, Coalstar, I see you kept your promise," scoffed a black and white tom that stood at the head of the cats behind him.

"Yes, Wavestar," replied Coalstar cooly. "and I hope you intend to keep yours."

Wavestar hissed, while his ears flattened and he bared his teeth. Growls and hissed sounded from both clans. They all leapt forward, teeth and claws glinting in the moonlight that shone down on them.

The battle had begun.

Prologues for me, intend to be short, but hopefully chapters will be longer. Enjoy!

• Chapter One •

A cool, crisp air hung through the forest as the patrol of cats slipped through the trees. Their usual, muscular and slim bodies were gone, and now clinging fur and bones were showing, with their dim, unhappy eyes wearily looking about. A long-furred with she-cat slunk up behind a tortoiseshell she-cat, a shiver passing down her spine as a cool breeze blew past the cats.

"Canopytail, why is it so cold...and..." she paused, jumping back as a leaf blew by.

"Empty?" Canopytail finished for the apprentices. She heaves a sigh and looked down at her with a regretful look shining in her amber eyes. "Don't worry, Icepaw. Things will get better, you'll see." The cats trudged on, and a white tom with jet black paws stopped, his muzzle raised in the air. His fur was now standing on end, and Icepaw pressed closer to her mentor for cover, her tail tip twitching with both fear and curiosity.

"DustClan! Stand back!" the tom growled, waving his tail as a silent gesture for the other cats to take cover. Pounding pawsteps thrummed by, and the white tom growled, standing in the three DustClan cats' way. "Why are you here?" he hissed to a Brown-Gray she-cat with green eyes. The cat stepped forward, her legs wobbly, as though she couldn't hold herself up for much longer. Icepaw noticed the other two cats behind her; Lightfoot, a light brown tom, and a ruffled gray she-cat, which was Yellowpaw. Their heads were raised high as they faced the RainClan cats, but she could tell by their shaking, frail bodies that they were starving and scared of what the other clan cats would do.

"We need your help, Blackfoot," the heading she-cat meowed steadily.

Blackfoot's fur bristled, and he bared his teeth, while lashing his tail. "Why us, Robinflight?" he hissed through gritted teeth. Icepaw shrank back at the cat's tone, and she felt Canopytail tense, as though she was ready tho spring into battle. She saw Yellowpaw prick her ears as Eaglewing, the RainClan deputy, stepped forward, his muscles rippling, though his voice was suprisingly calm as he spoke to the other clan.

"Come with us," he said, with a warning glance at Blackfoot as he opened his jaws to snap a stinging reply to the other tom. Then he closed his jaws and stayed silent, his tail tip twitching with irritation. Robinflight dipped her head to the other deputy and the seven cats turned and headed toward the camp, with the DustClan cats behind; Icepaw could tell they were hesitant about heading into another clan's camp, where there were stronger and more cats to hurt them, and they probably knew they would fail if they tried to attack the RainClan cats.

I wonder how their whole clan could survive, Icepaw thought glumly, shivering at the thought how she would be starved worse than she already was; the DustClan cats were more skinny and bony than the RainClan cats. But Icepaw shook the thought away as the cats kept padding away to the camp, but her pelt prickled with the thought that it might not be the same idea as what her Clanmates thought it was.

The cats broke into the camp entrance, with Eaglewing in the lead. His ears were pricked as he looked back at the cats and gave a curt not, then clambered up the pebbly slope, up to Coalstar's hidden den; the leader's den was up a pebbly slope, hidden by bushes that ran on either side. The slope curved and ran behind some trees to the edge of the camp, where a cave den was hidden by the leafy green bushes that had ran on either side of the slope, then went in front of the den slightly, with a small gap.

After a few more moments of waiting awkwardly, Icepaw saw Coalstar and the deputy bound down from the leader's den; she noticed that Coalstar's usual bulking and muscular body was now replaced by a tight, bony body. The leader's eyes were narrowed with suspicion, and Icepaw's pelt prickled with the same feeling she had had on the way back. It felt like an icy claw dragging down her spine, and she shuddered, making sure her mentor, right beside her, didn't notice the fear in her eyes. Her paws were itching to run out in the forest and yowl her feelings out to the world, but she forced herself to keep silent and still. She was intently as Coalstar mumured something to Eaglewing, before he nodded curtly and bounded off.

Everything was silent for a moment, before Coalstar stiffly stalked forward, her tail curling up. Her whiskers were twitching with confusion for a moment, then she dipped her head slightly to the DustClan cats. "Robinflight, Lightfoot, Yellowpaw," she greeted them flatly. Icepaw could tell she was forcing herself to stay calm in front of the other weak cats. But her muscles were tensing beneath her pale gray fur. Robinflight dipped her head politely back to the RainClan leader and flicked her tail. A stiff breeze blew through the clearing and Icepaw noticed more cats slipping quietly from their dens, eyes wide with surprise at seeing the DustClan cats in the camp. Icepaw watched as Hillpaw and Dustpaw scrambled up from tussling together in the light shade of a willow tree at the edge of the clearing. Dustpaw and his sister exchanged a curious glance and they both bounded up to the crowd, Hillpaw's black and white fur fluffed up.

"Good afternoon, Coalstar," Robinflight's voice was even, and it broke into Icepaw's thoughts, making her shuffle around to push her way to the front of the crowd; now most of the clan had gathered. Blackfoot was glaring at Lightfoot, who glanced at the white seeker before turning his head around the other way, his eyes hurt. Suddenly Icepaw felt a rush of sympathy for the poor cats; they were definitely worse than her clan. Canopytail flicked Icepaw's ear with her tail before padding over to Blackfoot, murmuring into his ear. But the tom just snorted and turned, padding to the far side of the camp, his tail flicking irritabaly. A moments silence broke through the crowd, before cats began to caterwaul complaints and urgent comments.

"Tell them away!"

"Why are they here?"

"Is this a trick?"

Coalstar lifted her tail for silence and faced the DustClan deputy once more. "Tell me what you need," she meowed.

Robinflight twitched her whiskers and shuffled her paws, but she kept her eyes on the leader as she said, "We need help, Coalstar."

"What kind of help?" Coalstar's voice was starting to have an edge to it.

"To share some of your land. We can't survive just on squirrels and mice." Robinflight told her, her eyes wide with pleading.

Coalstar pulled back her lips in a snarl, and lashed her tail. "My clan is starving too, as you are too badger-eyed to see," she growled.

Lightfoot widened his eyes at Coalstar's ferocity. Then Robinflight flicked her tail for him and Yellowpaw to head for the camp entrance. Then she sighed. "Very well, Coalstar. But we will discuss this at the next Gathering."

The cats turned and padded out of camp, their tails disappearing as they went through the thorn tunnel and out into the forest. A deep silence came once more, and Coalstar finally narrowed her eyes and turned toward her den, leaving the shocked clan in silence.

•Chapter Two•

The moon was high in the sky as the BreezeClan cats trudged on through the dark forest; they were not used to the clossed in area and the stillness of the air. Twigs cracked beneath their paws, and a gray-black tom padded close to a tree trunk, then sniffed intrestedly at the roots. A mouse scuttled by, and the tom leaped back, his eyes wide with alarm. But he shrugged it off wearily and kept going. BreezeClan cats lived on a moorland, where there was open space and where the wind tugged at their fur. The tom fell in beside a black and white tom, whose eyes were narrowed as he walked toward the gathering island.

"Wavestar?" the tom asked, his tail tip twitching with curiosity. A chill feeling crept down his spine and sunk into his skin as his leader's expression hardened as he noticed his seeker.

"Oh, it's you, Fallencloud," Wavestar growled, his muscles rippling beneath his fur as the moonlight peered in through the parting trees and lighting the ground ahead of them silver. Fallencloud was surprised by his leader's coldness. Perhaps he was still moody after the vicious battle with RainClan. Long scoring clawmarks scarred his fur, but his black and white pelt was now growing back and was beginning to cover them. The seeker looked at his paws and shuffled them lightly, but he kept heading after his leader.

"You've been acting different..." he started. Wavestar glanced at him in a hardened stare, but kept moving, his pawsteps stiff with effort. Fallencloud's eyes were full of concern, while the leader's eyes were still deep with anger. Then he sighed and started to veer away from the othe tom. "Never mind," Fallencloud muttered, picking up a run. The clan followed after him, surprisingly, and he could feel air slapping his in the face as they got closer to the lake; he could now see the edge of the forest and the stepping stones leading to the forest-like large gathering island in the middle of the lake up ahead.
