A bone chilling howl pierced the air, it's eerie sound reverberated through the forest. Mist shrouded the forest, lacing through the dense pine trees, a gentle breeze overhead caused the branches to sway and whisper. Eyes peered from the shadows, so small and low to the ground while others with more venomous, hostile looks hung slightly higher in the air.
A lone figure made his way through the forest. He was tall and lean, with a mess of dark brown hair hanging in his eyes. He held a pale complexion, the moonlight filtering through the branches almost gave his skin a luminescent appearance. His eyes, though covered partially by a screen of messy hair were his most startling feature. They looked normal at first glance, but upon a closer look the irises were a bright scarlet color. The man looked no more than twenty and he cast his gaze about furtively, as though he thought he were being followed.
He took his time through the forest and it almost seemed as though he didn't have a particular destination in mind. Another howl pierced the air and the young man paused. He listened carefully, and then after pinpointing the sound he started to follow the direction it had come from. His trod carefully through the densely packed trees, and occasionally the light from the full moon above would penetrate the canopy above and silvery, luminescent shapes would dances their way across his face and hair.
It did not take him long to arrive at his destination. A large rock face loomed out of the forest in front of him as an impenetrable wall of stone. He eyes locked on a small dark spot at the base though, a yawning black hole in the foot of the mountain crag. It was half covered with ivy, and lichen, but it did not deter him from slipping inside. His nostrils were greeted with the scent of rotting flesh, and his ears greeted by the sounds of rattling bones. A low guttural growl greeted him, though it quickly faded and was replaced by a woman’s voice. "You came." Her voice was silky, and heavily accented.
"Of course," the man murmured, "how could I not?" His eyes trailed to the woman. She stood near the back of the shallow cave, and his breath caught in his throat. He had always been struck by her beauty, and even now in this rotting cave did she cease to be beautiful. Long raven black hair cascaded over her shoulder in luxurious waves, and pale silver colored eyes contrasted against her beautiful olive-toned skin.
"It's the full moon and you know fully well it's why I've distance myself from human," she replied tautly.
"Of course, but you know I've not got a heart worth tearing my torso open for."
"Mmmm, I have to agree. A heart that hasn't beat for over two centuries wouldn't make a very good meal for me, even if I were starving to death. Though I'd love to possess it."
"You already do, as I hold your's."
The woman stepped closer to the man, though she still hung back slightly. "I always thought you odd for a vampire. Somehow more capable of emotions, and more kind-hearted."
"I've alway thought you weird for a werewolf. More under control and self-contained when you shirt," he countered.
"After that day I met you I've always craved your company and affection." She took and few more steps towards him so she could reach out and put one hand on his chest where his unbeating heart was held.
"As have I," he replied closing his eyes and savouring the touch of her warm hand against his chest.
"You know the courtship is forbidden."
"I do."
"And you care not?"
"I do not, do you?"
"I am indifferent to laws that separate our two species."
Slowly he wrapped his arms around her waist and leaned downwards ever so slightly and gingerly kissed her on the lips.
