Witchling V.2 (same as the old one)

[Innocence]

The next morning I awoke to the smell of something burning. I opened my eyes to the forest going up in flames. I scrambled up and saw Damen stumbling around. I rushed over and coughed "what's going on?"and he replied "your King's guards are on to us." I paled and rushed back to grab the pack. I opened the bag and grabbed the book, as soon as that happened the bag burst into flames.

I clutched the book to my chest and ran back to Damen. Then something hard landed on me and I fell to the ground. I opened my eyes to see Owen, I gasped and began to struggel as he tied my hands and feet, then he gagged me. I looked away to see Damen in same position, except he had a black eye. Owen lifted me onto his horse and shoved my book into his saddle bag. Owen led the way, I didn't have to ask where we were going.

As we rode I tried to mentally talk to Damen, then I remebered a spell my dad taught me. I loked straight at Damen and willed him to looked at me. When he finally did I quickly whispered the words malay and felt the connection to Damen.

Damen are you okay? I thought, he looked at me startled and then replied only a few bruises how about you? I shrugged and asked what are we going to do? Damen looked away and said I don't know.

Chapter 9

I sighed in defeat and then said to him I'm going to break the connection now talk to you soon. Damen nodded and then I turned away. After a while they stopped and made camp. We were led to a tree and tied to it, once we were tied Owen came over and sneered "so Rebecca you found someone else to use." I looked at him with wide eyes but said nothing. Owen chuckled to himself and then threw the spell book into my lapand leaned into whisper "it can't help you now can it?" then he walked away laughing.

[Innocence]

I looked down so Damen wouldn't see my tears. Once I had stopped crying I looked up to see that everyone was asleep. I turned to Damen and gently kicked his leg, he opened his eyes and stared. I smiled and reached my hand out to his and he grabbed my hand tight within his own. Once I knew he wouldn't let go I fell asleep.

When I awoke the next morning I was already strapped to a horse and Damen had another black eye. I looked away as Owen climbed onto the horse. As we rode Owen leaned in and whispered "so now are you going to help my father?" I shook my head no and he said '' pity looks like Alisa is going to have to stay with us a little longer. You know she's been asking for you." I trembled with fear and tried vainly to block him out. Suddenly I heard Damen shout "hey you bastard, leave her alone." Owen laughed and made a signal to the guard that was with Damen and then the guy punched Damen. I screamed and tried to get off the startled horse.

Owen swore and held me tight. I shifted around a bit and then took a chunk out of his arm. He cursed and let me go, I jumped down and rushed to Damen. He already knocked the guy out and was ready to leave. I took one step and the remebered the book. so I rushed back in all the commotion and grabbed it. I got back to Damen and whispered "let's go," he nodded and grabbed my hand and ran.

We ran like our lives depended on it (which it did). we entered the forest and Damen pulled me behind a tree and held me close. As we stood there Owen and the guards galloped past, once they were gone I breathed a sigh of relief. Damen laughed quietly and whispered "now that was close." I nodded and tried to step back, but Damen wouldn't let go. Instead he held on and bent his head to mine.

Chapter 10

I gasped and pulled away. Damen looked away all red in the face. Then he said sheepishly "sorry that was the adrenaline talking." I nodded and said "shall we go now?" he nodded and held onto my hand and began running again. As we ran I heard the pounding of hooves and a voice shout "there they are." Damen muttered an oath and began running faster.

I tripped over a root and broke my wrist. Damen saw me fall, but he couldn't get to me. I looked up eyes watering with pain to see Owen, he smiled and slid off his horse. He walked over to me and said "tsk, tsk Rebecca looks like you have to come with me after all." Owen grabbed my broken wrist and I smothered a scream as he threw me onto his horse. I looked back to see Damen running away and the guards didn't seem to care. Owen picked up the book and shoved into his saddle bag. He got onto the horse the began to ride away. I looked back in Damen's direction and mouthed "malay."

When I felt the connection I screamed WHAT are you doing! Damen replied don't worry I'll get you out. I huffed yeah right and then I closed the link just as he said no wait Rebe..... I turned back to front and held my wrist to my chest. Owen chuckled and leaned down to whisper right in my ear "did your boyfriend leave you to the wolves?" I only said "buzz off." He laughed again, then began to ride faster, I had to grab the pommel with one hand and use my useless one to hang onto his arm. It hurt but that didn't matter.

We made back to the village in a couple of hours. Owen got off and then helped me off the horse, I started to back away as soon as I got off. Owen shot me a look and then turned to led me into the castle. I began to tense as we got closer to the Great Hall. When we got to the door Owen looked back and gave me a grim expression, then he pushed open the doors.

In the hall on his throne sat King Benedict, he was a stout man with black hair and cold blue eyes. On either side of him stood gurads, I looked away and took a glance at the hall. It was huge and looked like a catherdral, then my gaze went back to the throne and I saw a small figure with firey red hair. I gasped and rushed to Alisa, she also broke free and was running to me. When she reached me I was crying, and then I hugged with all my strength and she back. Then I felt arms wrap around me from behind and pull me away. I screamed "no don't take her away," Benedict laughed and said "how touching, don't worry you'll see your sister again after we have a little heart to heart."

After they had taken Alisa out of the room, I turned to look at Owen, he looked back at me and said "just listen to what my father has to say." I shrugged but didn't say anything. The King rose from his seat and began walking towards me. I raised my chin high and stared him down, when he reached me he grabbed my chin and study my face on both sides and then my eyes. He snickered and looked to Owen saying "I can see why you like her son." Then he clucked my chin and walked back to his seat, he sat down and then began his speech.

"You see Rebecca I have a daughter about your age and I love her dearly. But she was taken and is now being held captive in a tower protected by a magic barrier. So you can see my problem, I need a witch to break the spell." then he turned to me and smiled "that's why you are here Rebecca to help me." I gasped and then said "no, not until you free my sister." Benedict laughed and replied "no, you see if I give her back you won't do what I ask so I have to keep until you finish my task. Is that clear?" I nodded and he gave me a evil smile "good, now Owen take her to her room."

Owen led me away after he shut the hall doors behind him. He took up to one of the many towers and opened the door, I walked in and sat on the bed. I heard Owen try to say something but then he sighed and closed the door.

Chapter 11

After Owen shut the door I got up to wander. First I tried the door and found it locked, I let a whoosh of air and looked closer at the room. A canopy bed was on one side of th room, a fireplace across from it. Beside the bed sat a nightstand, on the far side of the room sat a vanity and a wardrobe. A set of table and chairs were in front of the fireplace. The curtains and bedsheets were a light pink and the chairs and rugs were a baby blue. Off in the corner beside the wardrobe stood a full length mirror.

Since I hadn't seen myself in days I went and looked into the glass. Staring back at me was a girl who looked worn out and defeated, her hair was full of twigs and leaves, also her face was streaked with dirt. I turned from the glass and walked away, on the vanitywas a bowl and a pitcher of water. I poured the water into the bowl and washed my face. Once that was done I looked t the state of my dress. It was ripped to shreds and my shift was peeking through. I sighed and went over to the wardrobe and opened the door.

All of the dresses were fit for a princess, so I chose the most modest one and slipped it on. The dress was a forest green with gold trimming around the sleeves and hem. Lace decorated the bodice, under the drees and inside of the sleeves. Around the waist was a chain of diamonds and hanging from the chain was a teardrop diamond. The dress swished as I walked, when I reached the bed I sat down.

After what seemed like hours I heard a knock on my door. It opened at my word and a servant carrying a tray of food walked in, then she set the food on the table. She bowed and walked out of the room, in her place entered Owen. He walked over to a chair and sat down, Owen stared at me for several minutes before speaking " I have to tell you something, but I can't because then you won't help." I looked at him and replied "so don't tell me," he got up and began to pace "if I tell you then you won't hate me." I stood and snarled "I don't hate you I despise you." He gave me a look of understanding, then he walked over and kissed my cheek. Afterwards he walked of the room.

Chapter 12

The next morning after my strange meeting with Owen I began to think about what he said. Was he telling the truth or was he trying to trick me? None of my questions could be answered so I left them alone. After laying in bed for hours trying to answer the questions I got up. I slipped into a dress just like the green one except this one was silver and blue. Soon I heard a knock on my door as I was braiding my hair. I finished quickly and went to open the door, on the other side stood a small boy. I stared at him confused, but all he said was " follow me."

Since I had nothing else to do I followed the boy. He led me from my tower down hallways I couldn't memorize. Soon we reached a room filled the guards and soldiers, in the center at a table was Benedict and Owen. Benedict looked up to see and he grinned "ahh, there's our young witch." I winced at his title for me but didn't say a thing, Owen walked around his father's chair and walked towards me. When he reached me he bowed and then held out his arm, for the benefit of the King I slipped my hand through and Owen led me to the table.

When we got to the table I saw a map of Seminar. Then I began to realise what they were doing and I took a small step back. Owen looked at me with a confused expression but then back to the battle plans. Since I wanted no say in the matter I listened quietly. "If we go come from the back way they won't see us and we can attack quickly" Owen pointed out. Benedict nodded and replied "the quicker we her in the quicker we can get Alex back."

Then the King looekd up at me and said "your job is to break the spell as quickly as possible, got it?" I nodded and he gave me a toothy grin "good, Owen take her to her chambers and give her the spell book." Owen bowed to his father and then grasped my elbow and led me out of the room. But instead of taking me to my room he bought me to the garden. I gazed at him confused but all he said was "the place helps me think." I shrugged and went to sit on a bench.

After sitting there for a few minutes I was becoming bored. Then a shadow fell over me and I looked up to see Owen. In his hands was my book, I grabbed slowly and still looked at him. Owen smiled sheepishly and then said "if you ever need help let me know." Right after he said those words it reminded me of Damen and I began to cry.

I felt Owen sit beside me and place a comforting hand on my shouler. My crying only lasted for a few minutes, but it felt good to cry. I looked up at Owen to see his eyes filled with concern. He looked back at me and asked "he really did hurt you, didn't he?" I didn't say anything but he understood. But he did wrap his arms around and held me close.

Chapter 13

A little while later I wiped my tear-stained face and got up. Owen looked at me and I replied " I think I'd better go back to my room." He shrugged and stood up. We entered the palace and he lead me to my room. He reached it and opened the door, I stepped in and said to him "goodnight I'll see you in the morning." Then I shut the door. Turning to face the room, I walked to the small table and looked at the food placed there. I took a bite of the bread, but didn't eat anything else. I slipped into the night gown that was on the bed, then I climbed into the bed and closed my eyes. Soon I was asleep wishing that my father was still alive.

It was the middle of the night when I woke up to the sound of a tapping noise. I turned to the window and saw Damen. I let out a gasp and rushed to the window. I opened it and whispered "what are you doing here?" He smiled and replied "here to rescue you, now let's go." I nodded and went to grab the spell book, then I followed him out the window.

[Innocence]

I followed Damon along the edge of the castle until we reached where he has a rope. Damen turned to me and smiled "Rebecca you're going first." I nodded nervously and walked toward the rope. I handed the book and grabbed the rope, I was in my nightgown so this was going to be hard. I gripped the rop and began to slide down. Once I was halfway down Damen followed I reached the bottom and waited for him.

Damen reached the ground a few minutes later and I sighed with relief. he smiled and took my hand and we ran. We were outside the castle and in the woods in a matter of minutes. After a while I had to stop, Damen ubnpacked and said "they won't find you gone till morning. So we have time," I sighed and sat then sat on the ground and wrapped my dress around me.
