♥ Chapter Three: Part Two: Stone-Heart's Sister ♥

Stone-Heart watched as Lexie dragged her heels along the tarmac, the swing she was seated upon revolving slowly. Her face was creased; she was deep in thought. Stone sank next the the swing's frame and lay down: it stank of week killer, rat poison and dog urine. A lethal combination for one with such powerful senses, Stone-Heart proceeded to ignore it. His mind was too busy - and he was too exhausted - to move far. Everywhere in the park smelt similar, after all.
Rayana had not been pleased with her brother when he'd protested the plan to return. Then again, she never did seem to be happy with him. His choice to live with Lexie - and her mother before her - had set them against one another, and had Rayana almost leaping at his throat. If he'd been any other, he'd have been instantly killed. But knowing a sibling's secrets can often give you an advantage. But their close relationship had never been the same afterwards.
He'd gone back after the meeting. Evie, sensing his confused emotions, hovered in the bushes behind the siblings as they raged. Rayana disapproved of Lexie; the girl had not clue of Stone-Heart's true identity... or her own. She was unstable. But Stone-Heart counteracted her accusations with his own. Why had they been out here so long anyway? Where were the reinforcements promised? Soon enough, Rayana broke away. She declared that her brother was going - whether he wanted to or not - and that was the end of it. The girl could survive a few days without him.
Evie had joined him a few minutes after - closely followed by a nosy Fire-Soul.
"Dude," he'd told Stone, "Rayana's about ready to bite your head off. Keep your head low for another few years before doing one of these again. As much as I hate you, you're our best Warrior. Don't get yourself killed by our Clan-Mistress." And then he'd turned, tail in the air, and returned to his home - a basement underneath a fish and chip takeout hut in a nearby alley, where he lived with his own sister, Lillian, a timid yet stealthy female, one of Evie's closest friends.
Evie had frowned thoughtfully.
"He's right, Stone. We need you. Fire-Soul might be able to worm into our brains, and I may be able to heal other cats' injuries, but you and Rayana are the leaders of our Clan-Fighters. For you two to be arguing... is not good." And then, without a backward glance, she'd leapt up onto a branch and disappeared into the shadows of the tree above, leaving Stone-Heart lonely and longing.
