“Alright then, I’ll see you soon!” I laugh lightly over the phone while twirling the cord in my fingers. I instantly move slightly to the left as a book with wings zooms past my head and a group of people chased after it…with a butterfly net. Somehow I have managed to make it through my first week at Alcott and am still alive. How? Don’t ask. I’ve gotten used to this school and its crazy antics by now I guess and am feeling right at home. This is however impossible to prove to my aunt. She thought I was lying and began to ramble on about therapy and the mind. Like really? As if I don’t get enough about that from this school and its bizarre classes. “What? Today? Umm sure. No, No problem!” I hastily agree to my Aunt to get her to stop talking. Of course she doesn’t and I hang up on her without saying goodbye knowing it’s the only way to escape the telephone. I look around at the craziness happening in the ‘chill out’ area before heading back to my room. I was so not bringing my aunt inside the school that’s for sure. “Finally!” Kat exclaimed the minute I walked through the door and knew this couldn’t be good. If she was waiting up for me it’s never good. “So you know how people always say when pigs fly?” She asked almost bouncing up and down on the spot as I took a sat down on my bed. “Yeah…” I asked cautiously yet curiously. I was both interested and terrified at what my dear friend was up too but seeing as she block the only exit I stayed put. Well there was the window at which I glanced eagerly but realized I would never survive the drop. Turning my attention back to Kat her eyes were the size as saucers as I watched her slowly begin to shift. “So I’ve been working on my shifting and…” I heard her say but squeeze my eyes shut. Whenever Kat did her ‘experimenting’ it never turned out the way she planed. After I feel it’s safe to open my eyes I just gawk at the…thing before me. I burst out laughing as Kat looks confused and flew over to the mirror to check out her work. Her reaction was priceless as she let out a snort/squeal at the thing staring back at her. It was obvious she was going for a pig with wings but had ended up like a mutated bird. She had the wings alright but a pig snout and curly tail. The rest was sort of squished together but I didn’t get a real good look as she shifted back to normal glumly. “Oh come on I was just about to get my camera.” I managed to get out from the laughter. The comment earned me a pillow at the head but I was still laughing after her fake beatings. “So I have some kinks to work out. What’s your excuse?” She asked sharply which made me stop laughing. I don’t know why but it’s as if I have no control of my powers and they have a mind of their own. No matter how hard I try or how much I ‘channel my energy’ I just can’t get it. “Sorry Rae, I didn’t mean that.” Kat’s apologize has me coming back down to earth as I just smile at her. “I know. I just wished I could do the things you guys could.” I sigh lying down on my bed and staring at the ceiling. Everyone else has some sort of progress going on even though all four of us are on different levels. Figures Logan is the highest and Keith just a few below him. Kat like me-beginners- but at least she can shift on command which is something. It seems almost as if the worlds trying to tell me I don’t belong here either. “What did your Aunt say?” Kat asks changing the topic and for that I’m glad. “She’s coming over for the weekend and plans on taking me out or something.” I shrug turning over to face her. She’s back to normal but is still poking at her nose where her snout used to be. I have to bite back another burst of laughter but she catches me in the mirror and sends me a look. “You can come with us if you’d like.” I tell her sort of hoping she does. I know most of the students go back to the outside world to visit their parents for the weekend but Kat doesn’t really have anyone. Sure she could always go over to her visit her grandma in the retirement home but this was Kat were talking about. Bingo night and some jello isn’t exactly something to look forward to. “Nahh. It sounds like a niece and aunt outing only. Beside from what I hear from you, the woman scares me.” Kat replied faking a shiver. I understand this however. It’s not that I don’t love my aunt, I do but she does have the tendency to…over worry. I mean it’s understandable with everything that’s happened to me and I guess she takes blame for not being there for me. I understand she has a life though and job but somehow she still takes a lot of what happened to me onto her account. I don’t know what goes on in her mind but if she’d liked to check up on me no one’s going to stop her. Not even those massive bulky guards at the school gates. I have a feeling my aunt would travel across the entire globe just to make sure I was alright and the thought makes me smile. She might not be my mom and she knows she’ll never be able to replace her but she comes in a close second. I just really wished she’d crank down the smothering of love just a notch. I mean I’m turning 16 and I need space but I couldn’t bring it upon myself to tell her that. It’d break her heart and I don’t want to cause anyone any more pain, physical or emotional. “Besides I have my own set of plans for today.” Kat smiled and I quickly got up. “I don’t want to know!” I hold up a hand before hurrying out of the room. I can hear her pouting as I shut the door but the thing about Alcott Academy when you escape one thing; fate brings you yet another disaster. Or should I say two disasters? The Twins. How could I have forgotten about the terrible twosome? “Hello Rae Rae!” Exclaimed Megan…or was it Regan. I got the two curly haired brunettes mixed up way too many times and didn’t bother trying to figure it out. If you did somehow manage to they’d just fool you and play mind games. One of their hobbies was messing with people and if I tell you even Kat fears these two that’s saying something. “We’ve been looking for you!” Grinned the other one linking arms with me. “And why is that?” I ask as Megan (So I presume) copies her sister and takes my other hand. Keith warning suddenly comes into mind. ‘If the Twins are looking for you…run. Just run and don’t look back’ I swallow as the both exchange a look but before I can take off Megan’s begins to teleport us. I hit the ground hard and rub my fore head looking up at the two girls. “Hmm. She still seems to be having trouble with her landings.” One of the noted and then helped me up onto my feet. “No matter, we’ll fix that right up later.” Shrugged the other one and I just clutch my stomach trying to regain my wits. I hate it when we teleport. Yes I’ve done this before one my first day actually and The twins had gotten in trouble for just whisking me away like that. In their defence they were just being friendly and welcoming me to the school. Not exactly your typical welcome party let’s leave it at that. You’d think after I puked all over the carpet the first time they’d stop poofing me around places but no. Nothing stops The Twins I guess from wreaking havoc. “What are you two up to this time?” I grumble trying to figure out exactly where I was. I was alone with The Twins and that was already a problem. I give my head a slight shake and my stomach does black flips as I realize where I am; The Twins room. It was not your average teenage girl’s room. Instead of having two beds on either side of the room like me and Kat they had a bunk bed to the side and a single bed to the left. “Wait, you guys share a room with…a person?” I ask in disbelief at who the poor soul was. No one could stand more than a few minutes with these guys and to live with them, it had to be hell. “You didn’t kill her did you?” I ask all of a sudden searching the two faces that had the same freaky expression upon them. “No.” Megan said walking over to a table with various multicoloured glasses. Either the glass was bubbling or fizzing making me take a few steps away from the danger zone. “She doesn’t spend much time in here though. I don’t know why.” Reagan said popping up behind me and blocking the door. Invisibility and teleportation, I would love to meet the guy to picks which powers are for us and just smack him. Really? Could you have a pick two worse powers to put in the hands of these two? Actually come to think of it putting any sort of power in The Twins hands was a bad idea. “Yeah beats me.” I mutter sarcastically stepping to the left side of the room. It seemed to be a more safe area but the fact there was a chest with a skull and cross bone sign didn’t exactly make me feel any better. “Okay what do you guys need? I’m supposed to be getting ready for my aunt’s visit.” I tell them crossing my arms over my chest. “We know!” They chorused as one of them went back to taking temperate reading of a vial and the other played with a strange sliver box. Right, the fact they just happen to know everything scares me. I wonder if they found a way to be everywhere at the same time or if they were watching us…“We just need you to test a few things.” Regan replied as the both wore some creepy smiles. All of a sudden I was starting to miss Kat’s sly smiles because these were by far worse. “No, no, no. No.” I tell them shaking my head and hands while backing away. What happened next is hard to explain. I guess they cornered me and must have knocked me out or something because I awoke strapped to a chair. “Are you guys insane?!? Let me out of here!” I demanded shaking wildly, ignoring their attempts to calm me down. I was safe? Did I hear that right? “I’m freakin’ strapped to a chair, with you guys trying your ‘inventions’ out on me!” I shout back hoping someone will hear me. “We need someone to test it on!” Megan wined bringing a glass of blue bubbling liquid closer to me. “Test it on yourself!” I snap back while trying to escape the chair. These knots are pretty tie though. “Are you crazy? It might kill us.” Regan snorted as her sister shot her a look. “Not kill but maimed at the very least.” This comment has me looking at the two in silence for maybe a full 5 seconds before exploded once more. With the glass inches away from my pursed mouth and my neck beginning to hurt from leaning so far back, I suddenly look up at the sound of the door bursting open. Thank God. “What the hell?” Keith asks before eyeing The Twins and racing over to help me. Literally I’m undone in seconds. “How’d you find me?” I interrupt Keith and his lecture about human rights to The Twins. It’s not their fault they weren’t born of this world. (Keith thinks they’re from Neptune but Kat argues Mars) “Oh well that was easy.” Keith turned to me but didn’t take his eyes of The Twins. I don’t blame them seeing as they would disappear right before our eyes. “Kat came rushing over on how she just opened her door and you just up and vanished. She thought I stole you or something seeing as it wasn’t humanly possible for you to disappear that fast. Logan told me you mysteriously vanished from the hallway and- “
“Logan’s keeping tabs on me?” I interrupt once more whilst smirking but Keith just waves it away. “Anyways he had me looking for you and it wasn’t that hard finding The Twins room. Just follow the screams.” He glared at the two girls who simply smiled back. “We weren’t going to hurt her!” Megan began but Keith just held his hand up cutting her off. “I’m beginning to think this school insane.” I muttered to myself. “Well you’re just as sane as us seeing as we’re all trapped here together.” Regan laughed almost manically but finally put the strange potion away. It makes me feel slightly better but the feeling of being on high alert wouldn’t disappear till I’m safely out of their room. The sound of something hissing in the corner has Keith lifting up into his arms and taking off. I don’t complain because seconds later I hear and explosion from behind us and am glad for Keith’s super speed. It doesn’t take long for him to get us to safety and I look to see Kat and Logan sitting on the couch. Logan eyes Keith but the boy doesn’t get it so I clear my throat. He suddenly becomes aware that I’m still in his arms and almost drops me but I manage to land on my feet. “What happened? Are you alright?” Kat asks breaking the awkward silence as I just nod. Keith however snorts and the two turn to him for a better explanation. “I walked in and it was like one of those creepy mobster movies. You know the tough guys beating the dude strapped to the chair up? Well she was tied to a chair and being forced to drink something. Figures they’d choose the newbies for guinea pigs.” He ran a hand through his hair before flopping onto the couch. So I guess he can get tired and I suddenly feel very fat. I don’t weigh that much do I? The sound of a bell indicating its 12 has me awaken from my thoughts. “Look my aunt’s coming over; well not over I’m not bringing her into this hell house. Anyways I have to get ready.” I quickly explain before heading back to the room. I hear Kat’s footsteps and she’s telling me something but I’m too tired to listen. The second I open the door though I can’t help but stare. My mouth is wide open but no words come out. Kat’s snapping her fingers in front of me and claps like crazy but nothing works. “What happened to the room?” I ask very slowly trying my best not to rip my hair out. The place is trashed. Now I’m not a neat freak but every person has their limits. My just happens to be when everything in the room is broken and seems to be covered in some sort of black soot. Glancing up at the ceiling there seems to be some sort of foot print I can’t really make out. I rub my hand right over my face as she launches into one of her face talk about her ‘plans’ but I only catch every other word. Something to do with a wild boar, a guy named Dante and summoning spirits? I’m not too sure and I really don’t want to know. A girl carrying a broom walks by as I steal it from her and just hand it to Kat. I walk into the room trying not to breathe in the weird scent, grab my clothes and leave without saying anything. This is too much for one morning. I swear if that room isn’t spic-and-span by the time I get back…I guess I was mumbling my problems aloud because Logan stops me. “You need a break.” He smirks and places both hands on my shoulders. I’m hit with a wave of calmness and tranquility that forces me to close my eyes and just stop. I wonder if this feeling has to do with his powers or the way I feel about him. How do I feel about Logan Knight? I’ll let you know as soon as I find out. It’s strange how we have these small moments and then our longer ones at night. Sure we have curfew at 11 but you try obeying the rules when a hot guy says he wants to meet you outside alone. We’ve had a few of these ‘meetings’ but nothing really happened. We’d talk about life or explored the grounds but even at times he was so close to touch he was so far away. It was almost as if he was walking on a very thin line of being with me and messing with my heart. The thing is that’s not Logan, he’s not that type. Maybe I should be asking Kat about him seeing as I barely know him. You know get a second opinion. I flutter my eyes open when he takes his hands off and see him frowning. Was he doing that weird mind reading thing again? “Your mind is elsewhere.” He says in a soft tone and I think I detect a hint of sadness but he sounds more concerned. “My aunt, remember?” I quickly lie showing him the clothes in my hands. He just nods and lingers in front of me for a while. I think he’s about to lean in and kiss me when just like that he takes off. The boy was a puzzle but I was getting all the pieces jumbled up. I decide to go change in the bathroom since my room’s not really an option. I awkwardly strip in one of the stalls when I hear someone mumbling to herself. I look out the crack of the stall and she some girl washing her hands while muttering. I’m not even too sure what she’s saying is english as I make my way out towards her. There’s a very faint voice in the back of my head telling me to head back to my stall, lock the door and wait till she leaves to come out. “Are you alright?” I ask the girl and at first I think she doesn’t hear me but then she looks right into my eyes. It’s creepy how her eye color was black but had a yellowish golden ring in them. They seemed to glow brighter as she grabbed me by the shoulders and I wished I had listened to the voice. “She will come, and with her she will bring evil and death. Sorrow and pain. She will come for you.” The girl’s voice was monotone yet eerie and has confirmed everyone in this place is nuts. “Yes well I know my aunt’s a pain but she’s not that bad.” I let out a nervous laugh as the girl come to. “Hmm? I said something didn’t I?...” She looked at me but doesn’t wait for an answer for leaving, mumbling to herself once more. I follow suit and head for the main office but can’t get her weird warning out of my head. It was stupid and I know that but for some reason every step I took got heavier and heavier. “Rachel!” I heard but don’t see anything but a blue fabric. “Aunt Rianne.” I cough letting her know she’s squeezing me to death again but she doesn’t care. All the nonsense I heard is out the window as I breathe in the familiar lilac scent and smile. Evil indeed.
