Introduction

Fireflies lives alone, in the woods. She has been roaming the woods alone ever since she lost her mom and brother to a flood. That was when she was a teen, she is not a young adult and sometimes very hyper. She loves to run around and get lost in her thoughts. She has met other loners before and would stay with them and make friends, but then she would continue on with her journey. She can also be calm in personality. She loves being by herself and left to her thoughts. She has never dreamed of joining a pack and would rather spend her days as a loner.

Tonic is an all around clam wolf. He, too, lives alone in the woods but wants to change that. He would rather find a pack to join. He had been in one before, but a fire blazed through his home and either killed or scattered his pack. He hates being alone, and even though his clam personality makes him seem shy, he really isn't. He enjoys the company of others greatly and can't wait for the day he finds a pack.

What happens when these two wolves and one gets the other to hunt for a pack with him? Will friendship become known? Or will they be enemies?

Part 1

(All of this will be written in Fireflies point of view, unless stated other wise)

I walked through the quite, warm, forest night. Seeing no place to build a suitable den for the night, I kept walking. I had come into a normal routine of doing things. Wake up, find food, walk in what ever direction feels right for the day, rest at night. Most days where uneventful, but if I was lucky I would find another loner and have a friend for a few hours before we both went on our way. Today was one of those uneventful days, so I just kept walking. I would lose my self in my thoughts as I always did. But now.. I was finding that hard to do, I was tired and needed sleep.

Up ahead I seen a tree and smiled. If I could did under the roots, I had a home for the night. Running ahead, which made my blue hair flop in my face, I headed for the tree. Upon reaching it I smiled to myself, it was already dug out at the bottom. I plopped in and curled my dark tail around my body. Running my tongue over my forelegs and paws, I got comfortable. Soon the soothing rhythmic strokes started to lull me to sleep. Before I knew it, I was dead to the world in a deep sleep.

I felt eyes on me. How could that be? It was only me here! I looked around the foggy clearing I was standing in. Nothing was there... Odd.. The clearly started to fade and I awake. "Oh, just a dream." I mumbled to myself, curling my tail tighter to my body. But I still felt the eyes on me, just watching. I lifted my head and jumped slightly. Another wolf was standing above me at the entrance to the den. "Um... H-Hi." I stammered as I crawled from the tree. "Is this your den?" I wondered why I hadn't scented him in the den last night. Had I been that tired?

"Yes, but I'll be leaving today. I'm sorry if I scared you." He spoke to me and I really took in his appearance. He had a dark blue coat, with a blue circle on his back, outlined in a light blue. He had the same marking wrapping around his right back leg. Small purple dots made an odd shape on his front left ankle, and on his feet green claws poked out from the fur. A silver collar with a bright blue buckle stood out against his neck fur. Looking up to meet his eyes I noticed they where the brightest blue I had ever seen, aside from the one on his coat. "I'm Tonic." I smiled at his name, it fit him.

"I'm Fireflies. Are you a loner as well?" I asked tail wagging behind me.

He nodded his head, and black hair with light purple streaks shook. "But I plan on changing that." He smiled. "I want to join a pack. What about you, are you looking for a pack?"

I took in his words, no expression on my face. A pack didn't seem like much to me, being alone seemed just as good. "No, I never seen the appeal of a pack." I sat down and licked my sides where I had neon green dots forming a large swirl on each side. "I'd just prefer to stay by myself."

He looked taken aback. "Why? A pack means always having someone there for you. Friends to talk to. Knowing you never have to face the world alone." He smiled sightly and looked down as if he was remembering something. "I wouldn't be the wolf I am today with out the pack I had." His head raised, the smiled still there.

"I guess be-" Wait? Had? Why did he say had? "What do you mean 'had'? Did they kick you out?" My eyes widened and a smile grew with anticipation. A drama filled story was always the best thing about meeting other loners. I knew I had to look like a hyper-active pup, barely able to sit still. It happened whenever I was waiting on something good to happen.

"No. They where all killed in a fire that came through my camp." Tonic sighed. "I was lucky and got away. I'm sure others did as well, but I haven't seen any of them since. So I have been looking for a new pack. Yes, I do miss my old pack. And I know a new one wont take their place, but I can't stand being alone like this." His head had dropped again as he told of his pack. Being friendly, I nuzzled his head up with my muzzle.

"I'm sure you'll fine a nice pack soon, Tonic." I smiled a friendly smile. "If you want, I could join you until you find a pack. That way you wont be alone."

Tonic smiled back at me. "You would really do that, Fireflies?"

I nodded and thus began my journey to help a wolf find a pack.

Part 2

Tonic and I had been walking for a few days now. Most of the time is quite company, but nice. Other times we where asking any question we could think of about the other. There was still one question I couldn't get out of my head. Where did that collar come from? No normal wolf had a collar on. I didn't want to be rude though... Maybe it was a rough patch of his life that he didn't want to talk about. I sighed, it could wait until dinner was caught. I know what your thinking, 'Your thinking about his collar while trying to hunt?' Really I wasn't hunting, yet. Tonic was. He was running the buck to me, I was just waiting for the right moment to run. I could hear them now, that deer was running for its life. He was getting closer. Just a bit more... Come on, Tonic, a little further..

"Gotcha!" Tonic and the buck exploded from the bushes just a few yards from me. I bolted from my hiding spot to cut the deer off. It seen me coming and veered off in the other direction, so Tonic and I took of, side-by-side. Tonic leaped first, biting and clawing at his hind-quarters. This slowed it long enough for me to run to its side and latch on to its shoulder. I dug my claws in just above the left shoulder blade, and my teeth above my claws. Suddenly I was falling, but the buck was going down with me. He landed on his right side, with me at his shoulder, and Tonic at the throat. We both stayed down until it stopped moving. I lifted my head with a proud smile. "Been a long time since I have took down a buck!"

Tonic smiled as well. "You had help, hot-shot."

I head-butted his shoulder. "I know I did."

"Lets face it though, i could have done that without you." Oh so Tonic was being cocky now.

"Whatever, I bet you could barely get a doe down on your own." This earned be a hard shove in the side from him. I let out a low, playful growl. "Oh its on now!" I lunged at him, knocking him off balance. He grumbled at me and gently latched onto my foreleg. I bit his ear, and raked my paws down his side, careful to keep my claws from hitting him. He lurched upward, knocking me back. He jumped and placed his paws on my shoulders. "Pined ya."

Tonic got off me and let me up. "Lets eat, Fireflies."

I nodded and followed him to the buck. I sat beside the shoulder and dug into the meat between the shoulder blades. Tonic bit into the meat of its side. Then I looked at him. "Can I ask a question?"

He looked up. "Sure."

"Why do you wear a collar? Where did it come from?" I asked before biting into the meat again.

Tonic sat down and looked up at me. "When I was a pup I was taken from my pack. I was given to a young boy. he took great care of me, and soon gave me this collar. He lived with his dad, who didn't really like me. I came to love the boy, as he loved me. We would wrestle on the ground all the time. I even slept in his room." He smiled, he seemed to like reliving the memories. "Then one day he never came home. I'd all ways stand at the door and wait on him to come home. that night it started getting dark.. Still no sign of the boy, so his dad left. He came home and seemed sad. My boy still didn't come home. the next day his dad took me for a ride in the car. I was happy, thinking he was taking me to my boy. But he didn't. He took me to a forest and let me lose, yet he left my collar on me. I was already as big as I would get when the boy left, so it still fits me." Tonic sighed sadly. "It would just be wrong to take it off. Its all I have left of him. So then i found a pack. The one that was recently killed off."

I leaned over the deer and nuzzled him. "I'm sorry about that."

Tonic shook his head. "Its fine." And with that it was quite again as we finished our dinner.

When we ate our fill we both set about looking for a den for the night. I was the first to find a nice one. There where two huge boulders leaned together, making a nice den. We both crawled in, washed tired feet and rumpled fur, said our goodnights, then curled up and waited for sleep.

My last thought of the night: I think I'm going to like helping Tonic find a pack.

Part 3

The next morning Tonic and I awoke to a small whimpering. I yawned and sniffed the air. A wolf? Young at that. I padded from out den and looked around. There... A small brown pup with blue and green dots clustered along his spine, ears, and all paws was whimpering. I walked over to him. "Are you alright, little one?"

His head whipped up and he backed away from me and Tonic, who had just appeared by my side. "D-Don't hurt me, p-please." His voice was shaky and I could tell he was scared of us. The panic in his blue eyes showed it only to well.

Tonic had dropped to his stomach so he was level with the pup. Soon a tail pressing to my back told me to follow Tonic's pose. So I did.. I felt bad for the pup and if this would help then that was great.

"We wont hurt you. I promise. My name is Tonic, and this is Fireflies. Whats your name?" Tonic's voice was calm and very sweet.

"Jari."

I sighed mentally. That fear was still there. And all I could ask was why? "Nice to meet you Jari. Where is your mother?"

"Fighting them off.. I ran when she told me to." His head fell downward. "I ran so far, because I was so scared."

This had Tonic and I sniffing the air. Who was she fighting off? Then I heard it, and low howl.. Well low to us, it seemed so far away.

"That's her! That's my mommy." All of his fear was gone now, and I smiled then threw my head back and howled to the female. Tonic joined the second I started. We hoped she would hear..

"Let's go, we'll take you to her." Tonic said and picked him up by the scruff and started walking toward the frequent howls. Jari's mom and I exchanged howls for a good 30 minuets. Then I seen a darkly colored female running toward me. As she got closer, I seen a marking that looked like a moon on her chest and doted markings like mine, only yellow outlining it, under her eyes, her nose, tail, side and two front paws.

"Jari.." Her sigh was happy, and relieved. I couldn't blame her. Tonic sat down the pup and he ran for the female. "Thank you so much for bringing him to me. Jari next time I say run, I don't mean this far. I mean just enough to get you out of danger." She licked his head. "I'm Astra by the way. And thank you, again."

"No problem, Astra." I smiled at her. "I'm Fireflies.."

"I'm Tonic, and we are happy yo help." He smiled at her.

Astra gave us one last smile. "We should get going. Nice meeting you two."

I waved my tail in farewell as they left, then looked at Tonic. "Now we should get going."

Tonic nodded and we started on out way. We turned slightly east, and started padding away.

I was starting to hope we would find a pack soon. I could tell Tonic wanted more interaction with more wolves.. But then again I was hoping we didn't. I wanted to stay with Tonic and become more friends than we already where.

I sighed to myself. Please let no pack be close by.
