Chapter Ten
unedited blah blah blah
Stone walked through a very familiar forest. He was heading towards Stoneclan camp. He was moving quite fast for just walking. His paws moved slower than the ground underneath him was going past. He didn't find any of this strange, though. Perfectly normal.
Stone was soon standing outside of the camp. He didn't see anything special there, at first, but after a second he heard a sniffling coming from behind a bush. He cocked his head and peeked around it. To his shock he found his old friend Dovepaw laying behind it. Her back was turned to him, but he could tell from his breathing that she was crying.
"Dovepaw? What's wrong?" He asked, but she didn't respond. She seemed to be unable to hear him. He frowned, and walked around her to see her face. She looked so much older, now. She was bigger, and her long fur looked silky and beautiful, instead of messy and puffed out as he had remembered. Her bright green eyes ruined it, though. They were still large and very kit-like. They were staring down at the ground, and were filled with sorrow.
Stone frowned, immediately sad after seeing her face. He realized how much he missed her. "Dovepaw?" He tried again. She didn't seem to hear him this time, either.
Stone put his ears back and leaned down to nudge Dovepaw's snowy white shoulder. His nose slipped right through it, almost like he were made of mist. He gasped. Am I dead?!
He thought, looking down at himself. He didn't look like a cat of starclan...or at least what he always imagined a starclan cat to look like.
He sighed and sat down beside Dovepaw. "I wish you could see me, Dovepaw. Or even hear me. I miss you, you know. The only cats I know now are...well, different." Stone muttered, looking down at his paws.
Dovepaw suddenly lifted her head and looked through the bush. Stone now notice a hole in it just the right size for a cat to spy through it. He peered around the bush as well, wondering what had peeked her interest. He spotted a shadow moving through the bushes a little ways away. It was kind of big to be a cat...and it was right by the nursery, which was right by the outer wall of camp.
Dovepaw and Stone gasped simultaneously. Dovepaw leaped from behind the bush and snarled. Stone was surprised by how fierce she suddenly looked. A growled answered her snarl. Two amber eyes turned on her, glowing in the moonlight. The creature moved in closer to Dovepaw, going slow, obviously trying to get into attacking distance. It stepped into the light. A rust colored pelt shown silvery in the moonlight, and Stone recognized the creature to be a fox. Foxes were known to steal kits and eat them.
Dovepaw puffed out her fur, and arched her back. She now looked larger than the fox, especially since her fur was so long. She hissed and slashed at the fox. A warning to the fox that she was not messing around. The fox twitched it's tail and it crept closer, not ready to back down.
Stone was tempted to try and help, but he knew he could do nothing. If he went right through Dovepaw, he probably would do the same to the fox. He did walk around the bush to get a better view of the fight, though.
Dovepaw realized the fox wasn't going to back down, so she crouched into a better fighting position. The fox stopped. It seemed to be strategizing it's next move. It began to circle around Dovepaw, who turned with it, always keeping it towards her front.
Suddenly the fox pounced. Dovepaw stood on her hind legs to meet it. The two tumbled. Stone watch anxiously as the fox rolled so it was on top. It snapped at her neck, missing by nose as she dodged. She let out a growl, and slashed at the fox's stomach. It growled back and snapped at her neck again. Instead it got her muzzle.
"Mmmff" Dovepaw tried to pull her face free, but the fox would not let go. It's teeth clamped painfully on either side of her nose.
"Dovepaw!" Stone called, racing to her and the fox. He slashed at the fox as best he could. He didn't even flinch, no matter what his did. He hiss in frustration as he slashed.
Dovepaw couldn't see, but she worked her best to attack the fox's stomach and sides with her claws. It didn't seem to bother the fox at all.
Stone looked up the see the fox left it's paw. It stepped on Dovepaw's ear, pinning it to the ground. It then let go of her face, but as she tried to reach up and bite it back, she found her head pinned to the ground by her ear. She cried in pain as she tugged on her ear.
The fox took this chance to grab her by the neck. Stone dived at the fox, and flew right through it. He landed on his side and looked back to see Dovepaw looking straight at him, as if she could now see him. Her eyes were wide, and full of panic.
"Help me!"Stone awoke suddenly, gasping and biting back a yowl. Panic almost overtook him as he notice he couldn't see a thing, then he realized he was just in his new nest in Savage's den.
"Something wrong?" Savage's voice came from across the den, sounding amused. Stone jumped and looked around. He notice Savage's glowing red eyes. Savage had been gone when he fell asleep, so Stone had not expected him to be there.
"Uh...no..." Stone muttered, struggling to calm himself. "I'm fine..."
Savages eyes moved down and then disappeared. Stone figured he had laid his head back down and went back to sleep.
Stone sighed and curled up in his nest. He couldn't help but to think of Dovepaw.
I wonder if she's a warrior, yet? Maybe she's found a new friend. Maybe she even found herself a mate... Stone put his ears back.
I bet she doesn't even remember me.He remembered how much she had changed, and looked down at himself. He wondered if he had changed that much, too. He was bigger since then, and much thinner. His bones stuck out in places like his hips and his ribs. He had more muscles, though. His claws were more curved and stronger, after learning how to sharpen them better. Though he couldn't see all this in the dark of the den, he knew the differences. He wondered if Dovepaw would even recognize him.
Stone sighed again, and changed his position to get more comfortable. He slowly let his eyelids droop and let himself fall asleep. He would probably of a long day of training tomorrow.
It seemed only a moment had passed before Stone snapped his eyes open again. He had that creepy feeling that he was being watched, and for good reason. Savage was sitting nearby staring at him, obviously waiting for him to wake up. Stone put his ears back nervously and lifted his head off his paws. He wondered how long Savage had been sitting there watch him.
Savage blinked and walked out of the den. Stone could just barely make out his black tail beckoning him to follow. He sighed as he got to his paws, not wanting to get up yet. He shook his pelt, trying to wake himself up more, then followed Savage outside.
Stone blinked as the harsh sunlight hit his eyes, so bright after the very dark cave. He looked around and spotted Savage walking in the opposite direction of the training grounds. He trotted over to catch up.
As the two walked, Stone noticed that all the savages stared at him, and dipped their heads to Savage, who ignored them completely. They were walking past groups of cats who were all sharing tongues, or at least that what it was called in the clans. He noticed that the groups of cats got smaller and smaller until there were hardly any cats around at all.
Soon there were no cats around, and Stone began to wonder where they were going. They were walking up a hill, which was grassy like the rest of the savage lands. Savage lead him all the way to the top, then along a path to a sort of cliff edge. There he sat down and looked at Stone.
Stone walked up beside him and looked off the cliff. His blue eyes scanned over the large crowded savage territory, uninterestedly noticing the training grounds and his old den the trainie den. He also noticed a large area where old cats were fighting, and another large area where they were sharing tongues that he realized they had just walked through.
What really caught his attention was trees. Off in the distance Stone spotted a forest.
Home he thought wishfully. He stared for a moment, before looking at Savage, wondering if he had noticed.
Savage was staring at him with an unreadable expression on his face. The usual hint of red in his eyes was dimmed quite a bit. Stone wondered why.
"You wish to be in the forest?" He asked, cocking his head at Stone. His eyes were mostly blue now.
"Uh..." Stone didn't know how to answer. If he said yes, would Savage be angry? He waited for a minute, hoping Savage would just go on, but since he didn't he finally turned his gaze to the forest and answered "It my home."
Savaged eyes turned red again and he gave Stone a hard look "Even after all The Savages have done for you, you still wish to be with those who banished you?"
Stone looked up suddenly.
How did he know about that? He thought, shocked.
Savage shook his head, as if disappointed in him. "You should be more grateful, Stone. I could've left you there."
Stone thought of how he was always told to fight, and how little food they gave him. It wasn't much better than his life in the forest by himself had been, but he didn't say so. "Sorry" He muttered instead.
Savage frowned at him for a moment, before looking down at The Savages. "I took you up here to let you see how large of an army I have here. It takes a full days walk to get from one end of our territory to the other."
Stone looked down at the many cats below.
Why would you want an "army" so big? He wondered.
To many mouths to feed, with so little food to get. No wonder everyone here is so skinny."I can tell you have questions." Savage said, looking back to Stone. "You can ask them."
Stone looked up into those red eyes, and suppressed a shudder. Something about them still gave him the creeps "Okay...why would you want an army? Especially one so big. What's the point?"
The red dimmed in Savages eyes for a second, before going back to it's usual brightness. "I never did this for the
army. I did it for the cats. Every one of these cats were living alone, most were like you, unable to take care of themselves. By forming a group the skilled hunters can help take care of and train the helpless. I saved all these cats."
Stone cocked his head. This sounded a lot like how Stoneclan were started. Was this really just a big clan with different names for everything?
More to come maybe. I dunno, is this a good way to end this chapter?
