Hali stood on the beach watching as the waves crashed onto the beach in a rhythmic motion. Her mane and tail flowed in the breeze the ocean gave off, and she reveled in the sight of the sun as it set over the ocean.
Her ears flicked as she heard the familiar sound of hooves in the sand coming toward her. The mare’s eyes drifted from the ocean to the stallion that was walking toward her. She smiled softly as her eyes landed on her mate Levi, and she could see his eyes light up when he saw her. He gave a soft whinny as he walked over to her and she rubbed her head gently against his shoulder. Hali had to learn early on that her mate was deaf and couldn’t hear a word she said, so the two of them had basically made their own language with movements and glances. It was something special for both of them, as they could communicate almost silently and no one else would understand what they were saying to each other - their own little love language.
Levi let out a huge sigh as he sat himself down in the sand and glanced out over the ocean. Hali couldn’t help staring at him for a while, admiring his black and white mane that flowed so softly in the ocean breeze. After a couple of moments Levi glanced back at her and tilted his head, ‘what are you looking at?’ he was asking her. Hali smiled and nudged him with her nose, ‘Just you silly’. Levi rolled his eyes with a smile and shook his head before flicking his head toward the water and the setting sun, ‘The sunset is far more interesting than me’.
Hali giggled and glanced out at the sunset before looking back at her mate and shaking her head before pawing the ground, ‘You’re far better than any sunset’. With that said, Levi let out a laugh and stood up next to his mate, nuzzling her cheek lovingly. Hali smiled to herself and sighed happily before getting a devilish twinkle in her eye. She glanced at her mate and winked at him before taking off running down the beach. The mare let out a loud whinny of delight as the sand flew up behind her, and she could hear Levi laughing as he ran after her.
The mare glanced behind her as she ran, looking back at Levi who was easily catching up to her. Hali smiled and before her mate could realize what had happened she slammed on the breaks and slid through the sand, in turn making her lover run right into her. He tumbled over her and rolled into the sand with a thud. Hali couldn’t help but laugh, and Levi gave her a dirty look before smirking and kicking sand at her. The mare didn’t have time to react and got a face full of sand, to which she couldn’t help but laugh at because she knew she deserved it. Her mate was laughing with her as well and soon stood up and shook himself off, effectively cleaning his coat of all the sand - however his mane and tail now looked shimmery in the dimming light.
Levi let out a big sigh, sounding content before he walked over to his mate and sat next to her in the warm sand. Words didn’t have to be spoken for either of them to know what the other was thinking. This was by far the best place to be. Together. On the beach. Nothing could ever be better.
