here was once a youthful goddess in the land of the gods, a goddess known for her wisdom, generosity and her constant love for peace. She had appeared to detest violence and war, and had always stayed neutral during mortal wars and godly conflicts, watching the chaos transpire as her prophecies foretold. Nevertheless, upon the day of a conflict destined to tear apart the heavens, the goddess unveiled her true face, and sowed spite among the gods for her own selfish gain, seeking to rule the skies and claim the throne in the midst of war. And so mortal she became, her place in the heavens destroyed and her name forgotten, a fitting punishment for her greed as the gods ordained.
But in a villain’s mind, they are the hero, and for every action made a justification is behind it, and thus this tale is told from the goddess’ past, her justifications and reasoning laid bare for the world to judge.
***
In the beginning, there were only gods. Primordial gods, the creators, destroyers, and rulers of their world. As time passed, more gods came into existence, either born or formed as the world was made. With time, balance was found between these gods, and peace was to be had, even as accidental misunderstandings led to minor skirmishes. It was during this reign of peace that a prophecy was issued to its goddess, one that warned of a war that would tear creation and harm and perhaps even kill the gods themselves, and yet they the gods had little care, for they had a more pressing concern. In those countless peaceful years, unhappiness had developed among the ranks of the younger gods, for jealousy had grown and festered in their heart, and angry and vengeful thoughts clouded their mind. They envied the primordial gods, they who held great power and was, indeed, the kings and queens of the godly domain. And as this thirst for power grew, so did thoughts of an uprising against the primordial gods, until, numerous years later, something snapped, and the little annoyances the younger deities implemented to harass the primordial gods escalated into spats and upfront arrogance and disdain. The younger gods, though much, much weaker, outnumbered the primordial deities and had a greater variety of powers among them, to the extent where if a war was to occur, it would be one that lasts a millennia with no clear winning side and with the world in ruins before a victor is found.
Thus in this way the prophecy’s warning was answered.
Nevertheless, the goddess of prophecy knew that fate was not set in stone, and sought a solution in that could rectify the world. Even as she weighed the consequences of her actions, a constant thought worried at her: how much was she willing to yeild? Yet on seeing the hatred between the gods, the answer was already determined – There was no way of healing the thousand-year long rift between the gods, not with threats of war so close to the present, and so the anger had to be redirected.
Everything had to be given, so she would give everything.
So tell me, where should I go?
