The Eternal Rose

If you looked at a family portrait of them, you would not even notice Roxanne even if you looked a thousand times. Even in a painting she would be unseen and concealed. Thatโ€™s how her life was growing up, she was the The Veiled Rose. Hidden, unnoticed, just a ghost. In the tower she had grown up in, you would hear the constant sounds of Ithurielโ€™s temper flare and the voice of her father doing his best to maintain her. She learned not to bother them, besides it didnโ€™t matter if she tried. No one would hear her, for she lost her voice. She smiled as she heard the voices of them arguing below. It was all the same, the very mention of their mother would cause Ithurielโ€™s hatred to burn and then eventually her fathers voice would be the last as she calmed down. Her father was supportive kind and in fact a good teacher. He was there when she needed him the most. He helped guide her from the darkness when their mother left and helped heal her broken heart so that all was gone but a scar. Her sister Ithuriel was sure a strong headed girl but she still had a heart and A tear slid down her cheek, though she had nothing to worry, her fate had been sealed on the Blood Moon, the day of her birth.

The folks would tell of a legend that on the Blood Moon, a message would be sent from the heaven above. That the gods would bring a message that would be sent to the mortals below. That was the day I was born just as the moon rose to its highest. When I came to this world I spoke four words, The Time Has Arrived. Then after that, I was silent, no wails, no sound, no voice... I have longed to know what those words had meant, and who was it directed to. Perhaps it was the declaration of a new start, a new beginning. I sighed, I was thinking about it way to much, only time would tell, and I drifted off to sleep.

โ€œROXANNEโ€ the door swung open and my father stood at the doorway panting. I sat up dazed and confused. โ€œIthuriel is gone!โ€ I leapt out of bed and dove out the window into the frigid morning air. She couldnโ€™t have, she wouldnโ€™t have. I focused on flapping my wings until I reached Ithurielโ€™s room in the tower. Sure enough as I barged through her window her bed was neatly tied and everything seemed as normal. Yet a small slip of paper rested on her bedside. I grabbed and written neatly there was one word, a curse to her. Mother.

Anger burned in my eyes, had she not learn her lesson the last time. I couldnโ€™t help the tears that fell down. Had she not tried enough, why would she risk the world for this stupid quarrel. Last time was bad enough, both almost wiped out the whole area. This time would only be worse if I didnโ€™t do something and fast. I almost ran to catch up to her but then I remembered Guiscard but he stood by the doorway smiling and nodded. โ€œThis is your battle not mine.โ€ As a knight he knew when to fight and when to leave one be. I smiled, greatful for everything he did for me, and turned. With ease I heaved myself to the horizon where the battle began. Soon enough the sky started emitting a purple glow and a red glow. I knew this must be the fight stirring. I just hope I would be able to make it before it was too late.

Those two might not realize but the gate would be destroyed if they went full out on each other. There would be no winner in this blood bath. The balance between world would lose control, and everything would be chaotic. Iโ€™m sure Ithuriel had an army at her side against the broken soul of mother. I flew at full speed, a speeding light as I braced myself for the worst. Then there it was the gate between the world. There mother stood overlooking the army that thundered from the east as I flew in from the south. Nooo I was too late as mother summoned power from the gate and channeling it at her halo. This was gonna be there final stance and both knew that. I saw Ithuriel rise above the trees, drawing energy from herself. She was glowing bright red as her followers lended her energy. Beams of light shot to her as she grew stronger. I knew I had to stop this before things got ugly. Still flying full speed I started hearing the argument. โ€œTRAITORโ€ screeched Ithuriel as she thrust her sword. I couldnโ€™t believe my eyes, where did she find a sword like that. โ€œITHURIEL WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR DOINGโ€ bellowed our mother in a fury. Her empty eyes glared with utter hatred. โ€œALL THESE YEARS YOUโ€™VE ABANDONED US AND I WASTED NO TIME. I GOT STORNGER AND FAR MORE SUPERIOR THRN YOU. NOW Iโ€™M GONNA FIX WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE.โ€ There was no way to stop it now, I realized what had to be done. The two side released all power. I surged as fast as I could right between the two energy. Sacrifice.

I opened my eyes, was this heaven, had I crossed the gate. Then reality hit me, I lay on the floor between the gate and Ithurielโ€™s army. Rose petals fluttered around me, where had they come from. My head hurt and I couldnโ€™t move a muscle. I could barely think. All I remember was the shouting voice of mother and Ithuriel as I closed my eyes.

I woke up in different place, I sat up, I was in a garden full of roses of all color and kinds. It was beautiful and perfect. The air was sweet with the fragrance of roses and the garden seemed to be blooming in front of my eyes. As the wind blew it scattered petals everywhere. Then the wind picked up speed and the petals came together forming a shape then someone appeared. Thespia, the goddess of Roses. โ€œHello, Roxanne, fancy seeing you hereโ€ he voice was melodic and she was magestic as ever. โ€œYou... you... saved my life.โ€ I stumbled on my words. Was this really happening. โ€œPerhaps that was me, either ways we knew that one day you would save the world. That day has arrived. Now you must help rebuild it. Save your family.โ€ The goddess continued. As a reward, though I might not be the strongest deity but I am one. I grant you a blessing may you return as the Eternal Rose.

With a brilliant light, I rose in the air glowing brighter and brighter until everything went blank. Then I opened my eyes. I lay in my bed surrounded by my sister, my mother, and my father. It was weird seeing everyone together as what we all been through but nonetheless it was reality. Now noticing that I was awake they rushed to my side. โ€œThank gosh youโ€™re okayโ€ my father gushed as he checked my temperature. My sister started shaking as she sobbed beside me. All remained was my mother who hang her heads down. She stayed in her spot in the corner but then she looked up and smiled. I hadnโ€™t seen that smile in forever, it was wonderful.

I barely knew what was going on but I knew that it was over and now we had a lot to make up for but together Iโ€™m sure we could do it!
