The New Prophecy | a Warriors Fanfiction

Postby Tiny_Cat » Sat Jul 15, 2017 6:44 pm

For many, many season, HawkClan had known nothing but peace. Food is plentiful, and for the time being enemies are scarce. Few have fallen to serious illnesses and under the current Leaders reign, few cats have cause to complain. Petalpaw is the daughter of Lionstar, and the vlan' s newest apprentice. Headstrong, fiery, and independent, she scoffs at anyone who tries to boss her around. Raventalon is a young warrior. Known as the clan's prodigy warrior, he is Strong, fast, dedicated... and perhaps a bit too serious. Petalpaw ans Raventalon can't stand each other; every cat knows it. But what happens when a twist of fate forces these two together... whether they like it or not?

The New Prophecy | Prologue

Postby Tiny_Cat » Sat Jul 15, 2017 8:12 pm

P R O L O G U E

Morning sunlight coated the forest in a warm, golden glow as birds sang their song to a crystalline blue sky. Lionstar opened his eyes and blinked a few times, struggling to adjust to the brightness filling his den. It was early, but already his sharp ears could pick up the sounds of warriors and apprentices beginning to stir in their dens. Rising to his paws, the massive golden warrior padded from the den and stopped on the High Rock that overlooked the camp clearing. Below, he could see Sleekwhisker sitting in the shade of the Apprentice's den, grooming herself before starting the day. Two of the younger warriors, Crowfoot and Raventalon, shoved their way out of the Warrior den. Their heads were bent low together as they spoke in hushed tones. Even with his heightened heading, Lionstar couldn't pick up what they were saying. From the Medicine Cat's den, there was a rustle before a pale brown head appeared. Sageleaf glanced around with a frown on her face, almost as if she were looking for some cat. Just as quickly as she appeared, she disappeared back into the den. When the bush covering the entrance quieted again, it was a small gray tomcat who emerged instead. Sageleaf's apprentice, Ashpaw, trotted across the clearing with his tail in the air, the the meager remains of the fresh kill like. He picked up a pair of mice and headed back for his den, nodding to Crowfoot and Raventalon as he passed. Despite the number of cats milling about below, it was strangely quiet this morning and Lionstar turned his gaze speculatively towards the Nursery. Almost as if his thoughts had summoned her, the Yew Bush that made up the Nursery entrance quieted wildly and a tiny ginger bullet hustled out into the clearing.

"Come on, Tigerkit! You're not even trying to beat me!" The ginger she-kit accused, skidding to a halt and looking irratably back over her shoulder. The bush shook again, albeit less violently as before, and a darker tabby kit emerged. Tigerkit cast her companion a droll look and flicked her tail boredly. She didn't look like she had any plans on attempting to beat her ginger companion anytime soon.

"I wasn't aware it was a race, Petalkit." She meowed, the hunt hint of a smile curving her muzzle. Catching up to the smaller kit, Tigerkit have hee friend's shoulder a playful shove. "It's usually standard procedure to tell a cat before you try to race them." This time, the she-Cat cracked a bigger smile, her eyes shimmering with mirth. Petalkit's annoyance melted away and she returned the grin, stumpy tail waving excitedly.

"I can't help it if I'm excited. We become apprentices today!" She purred enthusiastically. While not related, Tigerkit and Petalkit were the same age and therefore were receiving their apprentice names together. Petalkit was thrilled to this fact. Since she was the only surviving kit in her litter, and Tigerkit the only surviving kit in her litter, the two were nearly inseparable. They did everything together. "How are you not excited?" She purred, fairly bouncing out of her skin in her excitement. Tigerkit purred in amusement and flicked her with her tail. A friendly and affectionate gesture.

"I am, Mousebrain. I just know how to control myself unlike some cat I know." She meowed teasingly. The sound of approaching pawsteoa made both kits lift their heads up. Crowfoot was trotting towards them, his eyes shining warmly as he looking between the two kits. Raventalon trailed just behind his brother, looking like he would rather be anywhere else.

"Tigerkit, Petalkit! Are you ready for the big ceremony?" He asked warmly. Crowfoot and Raventalon had become Apprentices shortly after the two kits were born, but that ha dnt stopped the friendlier of the two tomcat to befriend them. Both kits nodded eagerly.

"I wish you could be my mentor, Crowfoot. Knowing my luck, I'll get someone as stuffy as Raventalon." Petalkit joked with a twitch of her tail. Behind Crowfoot, Raventalon snorted indignantly but apparently didn't think her comment was worth responding two. The pair had never gotten along. Their personalities were simply too different for them to see past and they were constantly bickering. Crowfoot glanced behind him at his brother with a hard look, perhaps willing him to give the kit a chance, before turning back to the two kits

"Well, you won't have to wait long. It looks like Lionstar is getting ready to call the clan meeting." He meowed, nodding to the High Rock. Sure enough, when the two she-cat's turned to look, Lionstar had risen to his paws and was calling out the standard meeting cry.

"LET ALL CATS OLD ENOUGH TO CATCH THEIR OWN PREY JOIN BENEATH THE HIGH ROCK FOR A CLAN MEETING!" His meow rang throughout the camp, and within moments cats began emerging from their dens and settle beneath the High Rock. Petalkit watched, suddenly apprehensive. She wished herr mother were here. But rhe same illness that had taken her and Tigerkit's littermates had also claimed their mother's, and Tigerkit's father. To calm herself, she focused on the cats gathering in the clearing instead. Safeway and Ashpaw emerged from the Medicine Cat Den and settled side by side near the base of the rock; Sleekwhisker joined them a moment later and started speaking quietly to Sageleaf. Cloudpaw, Lionpaw, and Jaggedpaw all bounded from the Apprentices den to join their mentors below the High Rock. Marketing and Hollowheart exited the Elder's den but didn't stray far. Kestraltail, one of the senior warriors, padded into camp and took a place close to Sleekwhisker. Petalkit swallowed hard, but before she could get anymore nervous, Crowfoot nudged her gently and gave her a reassuring smile.

"Don't be scared, Petalkit. You guys will do great. I have to go but good luck!" Turning, he bounded away and pushed through the crowd until he stood beside Kestraltail. The two started speaking quietly amongst themselves, quiet enough that no cat would be able to hear them over the rest of the gather cats chattering. Petalkit thought that was a bit odd; the two had nothing in common and she had never seen them talk before. But she brushed it off as unimportant and shifted her attention to Raventalon. Oddly enough, he had yet to follow his brother and it wasn't like him to linger for no reason. Sure enough, when she turned to face him, she found him watching her. His expression was unreadable and the way he stated unnerved her to no end.

"What?" She meowed sharply, bristling as she glared up at him. Raventalon blinked, completely unmoved apparently, and then smirked.

"Your fur is sticking up all over the place. You look like a badger." He meowed, turning and strolling off without another word. She wanted to claw his pelt off or at least tell him to mind his own business but Tigerkit have her a warning look. Now was not the time to be picking fights. Sighing, she followed her friend to the edge of the crowd and settled down to wait. On the High Rock, Lionstar called the clan to order and silence fell over the crowd.

"Today is a special day. It is a day when two young cats, both if whom have faced many trials already in their young lives, will become apprentices and begin their training as Warriors. Petalkit, Tigerkit, please step forward." Lionstar beckoned the two kits closer and the crowd parted to give them room to pad towards the base of the High Rock. When they reached it, the tomcat continued. "Petalkit and Tigerkit; from this moment on, you will be known as Petalpaw and Tigerpaw." He shifted his gaze behind the two new apprentices and beckoned a cat forward. "Kestraltail, you are one of our oldest and wisest warriors. In the time I've known you, you have proven to be a brave and loyal cat. Do all that you can to pass on what you know down to young Petalpaw." He meowed with a warm smile.

Petalpaw and Kestraltail faced each other and the fluffy tabby tomcat leaned down and brushed his muzzle to hers. As he did, he have gave her a playful wink. "You did Great, Petalpaw." He whispered, before straightening up. The two stepped aside and Lionstar shifted his gaze to Tigerpaw. He beckoned another cat forward with a flick of his tail.

"Crowfoot. You are one our newest warriors but you have proven yourself to be a strong and capable warrior. Pass all you know to young Tigerpaw." He meowed. Crowfoot and Tigerpaw brushed nuzzles and then stepped back. Immediately, the clan raised their voices to greet the two new apprentices, chanting them loud enough for even StarClan to hear.

    "Petalpaw! Tigerpaw! Petalpaw! Tigerpaw!"
