Aspen's Ramblings

Postby MacabreLion » Thu Jul 13, 2017 4:34 pm

This will be a place where I basically vent out things that happen, or thoughts I get. My mind is constantly awake and creating things, so I often write my dreams and thoughts in various notebooks or on my phone, whatever I can get to first.
Some of the things here may come across as sad or even slightly triggering, as I've been through a lot and it affects my ideas and thoughts now. Just a warning. I'll be sure to keep things CS friendly though.
Anyone can reply to these ramblings, I don't mind. Talking about my thoughts is a good therapy for me, and I love sharing ideas with people.

1. Paradise

Postby MacabreLion » Thu Jul 13, 2017 4:36 pm

What is "Paradise?" Is it a lush, beautiful rainforest? A sunny island with a salty ocean breeze? The crisp, cool air of the mountains? It's something so subjective.
After once more playing SOMA, I came to a sort of realization. In the ARK, many players experienced texture glitches and whatnot. It's a symbol of how, no matter what, we truly can't achieve anything "perfect." It reminded me of Wolf's Rain, how the wolves tried so hard to find Paradise in the dying world. Once they had, a mere eye corrupted it, turning it into the same world we had known, basically a reset button.
You see, Paradise is unobtainable in that way. Nothing can truly be perfect. There will always be corruptions, no matter what we do. The sunny island will face storms, the forests face fires, etc. I always dreamed of somehow creating my own Paradise. In my mind I've made this perfect world, ideal for me to live in- but as I got older, even that world that I thought I controlled grew darker. Bad things happened, crime, death, etc. It's inescapable.
Paradise is nothing but a construct of something we strive for but can never achieve- and I think we don't need Paradise. We don't deserve Paradise. If such a wonderful place truly does exist, who are we to take it? Just like Darcia's eye in Wolf's Rain, or the coding of the ARK in SOMA, corruption would occur. It would become the same world we know. We would just be hitting a reset button. Starting over.

A Sad Departure

Postby MacabreLion » Fri Jul 21, 2017 7:27 pm

This is from a couple years ago. Alistair is a shiny Umbreon, Satan is a houndour with floppy ears like a rottweiler. Scarlet is the trainer, and Greena is her girlfriend.

Alistair stared as Satan got up, looking sadly at Scarlet and Greena before hopping off of the bed and trudging to the balcony. Alistair silently followed, sitting beside Satan as they gazed off at the cityscape.
"Everything okay?" He asked the Houndour, who whimpered sadly.
"No... I had another dream... Zekrom- I think- told me I need to leave. To train."
Alistair blinked, "Please, continue."
Satan sighed, "He said I need to leave... but he said that someone else would come to help everyone. He said it's better if I go alone..." he felt choked up, tears welling up in his eyes.
Alistair swished his tail, "I see... and what do you plan on doing?"
Satan shrugged, "I wanna stay with Scarlet... she is my master, after all..." he said dejectedly.
Alistair looked back at the horizon. "If you must go, it's okay. I understand. Perhaps Zekrom has requested you to leave for a reason. Do you think you should stay? Or do you think you should go?" He said calmly.
Satan sobbed, "I... I don't know! But..." he looked back at the sleeping body of Scarlet, tears welling in his eyes, "Ah..."
Alistair shook his head, "You must listen when they call upon you, child. You should listen. What will you do: obey the commands of a god, or stay with a human with an anger problem," he asked, locking eyes with Satan, who was crying now.
Satan clenched his jaw and shut his eyes tight, lowering his head, "Okay... I guess I - I... need to g-go..." he looked up sadly at Alistair.
Alistair nodded, "I can take you to the streets below. I can help you begin your journey," he offered, not showing emotion.
Satan sobbed, but nodded.
Alistair silently grabbed Satan by his neck scruff and leaped off the balcony, vanishing and reappearing on the pavement below.
Satan's eyes were wide, and he sat down, shocked. "Thank... you..." he breathed, standing up and looking north.
Alistair swished his tail, "Are you certain you wish to go through with this?" He asked, glancing over at Satan.
He nodded determinedly, though tears were streaming down his face. He howled, "I'm ready, Zekrom! Forgive me, Scarlet!" He began running away, "I'll never forget you, Scarlet..." he thought, clenching his jaw as tears continued to stream down his face. Though this tore apart his heart, he felt this was what had to be done.
Alistair closed his eyes and shook his head slowly, "Good luck, child..." he whispered, before leaping up to return to the balcony.
