Day 18

Tell me about the inside of the fortress. Does your hero sneak inside, or go in guns blazing? What sort of smaller baddies do they encounter?
I'm on the edge of my seat here.

"Psst, Eden, you got the grappling hook?" Calypso whispered as quietly as she could. It honestly sounded strange to her ears to hear that phrase. Here they were, at the end of their quest. This was really it; they had reached the castle! The feeling was bittersweet though, as the kalon couldn't help but wonder if they were truly prepared. Sure, they had spent nearly half of a month already on this incredible adventure, and then countless years even preparing to embark, but in actuality, Calypso still felt like a scared little kit.

Eden handed the ropes and anchor over, and Calypso steaded the small machine to project it. When they made the hook, the two quickly realized that neither would be strong enough to throw it themselves, so they had requested a skilled mechanic to build this contraption for them. He had told them that it was unpredictable and may shoot to either side as well, so Calypso pointed over to a bush for Eden to hide in as the contraption launched. Now, as she watched the anchor sail through the air, Calypso thanked him silently. It scaled the castle walls and perfectly landed against the edge of the cold black stone.

It was then that a small voice was heard behind them. Calypso whipped around and had only a fragment of a second to dodge what would have been a fatal blow to her face. Some kind of demonic guard was attacking her! She let out a loud yell, perhaps it was to intimidate him, though it did no such thing, and quickly pulled her gas-proof scarf over her nose and mouth. Then, the kalon uncorked the bottle of her black gas, and let the vapor fill the demonic creatures face. In an instant, he was on the floor.

She sighed, and took off her scarf again, terribly shaken up. "No, I'm a warrior." she told herself, but it was no use. Though she could lie to anyone and everyone else, she could do no such thing to herself. "Right."

The kalon beckoned for her friend to come back out, and she began the tedious journey of climbing the rope to the top of the castle. If all things went well, the two would make it to the top, unscathed and unnoticed. But in this terrible place, who could really tell what would happen. What would be the real difference between good and evil anymore? Calypso truly didn't know.

Day 19

Postby Unleashed Squiid » Sat Jul 15, 2017 9:13 am

Your heroes find themselves before the door to the final boss! As they open the door, tell me what they think of this enemy, before the fight!
What sort of villain has been responsible for all this mess?

"C'mon" Calypso hissed as she crept through the corridors. This place reminded her of a labyrinth, for every hallway the two walked through lead to a fork of at least two more. She had entered feeling somewhat confident, but every twist in her path, and every choice between directions slowly gnawed at the back of her mind. The security was dissipating, leaving nothing but terror behind. Now her heart beat rapidly, rising to her throat, and she would jump at the slightest creak of a floorboard, or echo of a footstep. This place really was getting to her.

She neared where she though was the right place, and looked up. Before her lay a door, but it was unlike anything she had ever seen before. This door was five times, maybe six times her height, and wider than the cart which she had helped Sawyer to fix way back in the Lavalands. Whoever, or whatever this great being was, would be something that Calypso could spend a million years without seeing.

The kalon reached out to touch the doorknob, but it swung open by itself, exposing a completely darkened room. The dim light from the torches lining the wall seeped into the darkness, emulating a tiny square of the floor. From what she could see, as her eyes adjusted to this darkness, was a room bigger than her entire windmill back home. It was the home to a monster. A monster which grinned at the kalons from somewhere in the darkness. Yet it was then that he lit up a thousand torches at once. The room suddenly blazed brighter than any light the two had seen in days.

She jumped back, blinded for a few moments. In this time, the monster took time to give some sort of cliché monologue, but Calypso wasn't listening. Instead, she was eying the room; searching for possible escape routes and possible last-resort-type weapons and hiding places. The looked at a staircase, which was lined by an iron-fenced railing topped with spikes, and her eyes lined the walls and windows of this great chamber. Finally, they locked in the center, where she saw her new opponent. And to her shock, she stared right at someone she knew very well. A tall, tree-sized kalon which carried her brother's face.

Her eyes were locked on them, as if she were looking in a mirror. There were a few features which were not quite right; the entire shape of his body seemed to be slightly more muscular, and the edges were fuzzier as if he were made of smoke. His eyes...they were bright, glowing yellow, and glinted with an enmity greater than any expression he could ever possess. It made him look more intimidating that ever before. 'Ghost' was terrifying.

Calypso looked to the floor and shook her head. She glanced over at Eden, and was greeted by a similar expression. "My mom...?" her friend breathed, her entire face and voice haunted. Then, with a loud and angry tone, screamed the words. "Why did you steal the face of my mother?!"

This was smart, Calypso thought. Playing us with our own kin; things the things we will never quite be able to hurt, no matter how much they hurt us back. Her thoughts drew back to the time she spent with her brother. Alone, never quite knowing what happened to her parents. She thought of how he had treated her...and she hated him with all of her mind, yet couldn't help loving him with all of her heart. How pitiful was that. After all of these years, she still would crawl back to that past like a wounded pet.

Then, her gaze slowly lifted, and she saw that same wicked gaze on her brother's face; that puppy-dog-like fake sorrow that he made when he wanted something out of her...and she hated it. Whatever this monster wanted from her, it was not working. Suddenly she didn't want to cower or run away from this beast; this evil demon with the face of her own family. No, this time she would not be afraid. This time, Calypso would stand and fight.
