Sawyer's Quest

Username: Unleashed Squid
Kalons in Party: Calypso and Eden
Quest Response:

"Oh dear...Eden, we should probably help this poor fellow. His cart seems to be broken." Calypso looked worried at the sight before her. Such beautiful merchandise was scattered all over the road, and had the cart been set up properly, she would definitely buy some of the things she saw. Eden either didn't care, or didn't hear because she cluelessly walked right past the mess, and continued on her way. "Uh, Eden?"

Calypso rushed in front of her friend, who finally looked up. "Wha? Oh, sorry. I was lost in my own thoughts again. Do you think that penguins have knees? I've been stuck wondering that for a while, and I--" she paused. "Why are you giving me that expression? I must have missed something...is it your birthday?!"

"No! Turn around." Eden turned, and was greeted by the pitiful sight.

"Oh dear." Eden finally had caught up. About time.

Calypso walked over to the wreckage and examined it. She looked at the wheel, which was missing a few spokes. How odd. The owner walked up, and thanked her profusely for helping. "Do you know how to fix it?" he asked.

"Eden breaks just about everything she touches, so I'd figure I'd learn how to fix her messes. That is a yes, by the way. I have some ideas." Calypso unhooked her pack, and rummaged through it to see if anything would work. The area that the cart had landed was all rock, with no sight of trees or bushes anywhere, so she would have to use something of her own. Finally, she came across a few bars of metal rod which had been used to set up the tent, which had been completely destroyed over a week ago. These should work, she thought to herself.

Carefully, Calypso measured the new spokes and marked off each one with white chalk of where they would have to be cut. Then, with the markings set, she walked a few paces away, and laced up an explosive contraption by mixing a few of the gases in her pouch. The combination created a liquid which she soaked a piece of string in, and then tied around the locations marked in chalk. Hopefully the gas would hit and combust so precisely, it would crack the metal exactly in the right place.

Now, to give it a shot.

Three...Two...One...KABOOM!

She walked over to examen the work, and was rewarded with three perfectly crafted spokes. The kalon fit them into the wheel, and then screwed the entire contraption back onto the cart. Perfect. Feeling good, she turned and smiled at the owner. "Nice to meet you," she said, happily. "I hope we can see each other again sometime." and continued down the trail, feeling rather accomplished.

Little did she know, that the 'sometime' they would be seeing each other would be sooner than she thought, as Eden still sat on the ground, next to the cart thinking about penguins.

Day 13

Postby Unleashed Squiid » Sun Jul 09, 2017 9:44 am

This place is probably the nicest you've been yet. Crystals everywhere, my kind of place for sure.
How does your hero feel about it?

Featuring Calypso

Calypso looked around in awe, gazing at the crystals which were embedded. They towered high above the ground and she had to crane her neck to see the very tops. So far this place was absolutely gorgeous. She loved the shimmering and shining prisms which radiated all sorts of magical colors onto every surface. She loved the kaleidescope patterns that lined the floor and the walls and her own fur.

There was just something special about this place. It was not cold nor hot, not loud, nor uneasily quiet. It was so serene that it was almost exhausting to be there. Everything was coated in that ethereal beauty. After being thrown into a monster-infested forest, and then a fiery wasteland, this place felt too good to be true...and that was what Calypso feared the most.

What if there were monsters infesting this land. Hiding in the crooks and crevices of that rocky terrain. It would be easy for them to hide with their dark colors, but not Calypso for she was brightly colored. What if there were even more terrible disasters here; flooding, tornadoes, and all there was for Calypso to do was run? What if this place, with all of its beauty, was only a trap. To lure in all sorts of adventurers and have them forever be encased in this place. What if Calypso was just crazy.

It was normal to be on guard after everything she had gone through, but was this too much?

This quest will require you to wear special gear that I've made, due to the area's dangerous radioactive atmosphere. Let me help you suit up, lovie! You can now look close to me with this plague doctor inspired gear and keep safe!
Will you put on the gear?

Eden had just about turned into a ghost herself when she saw the mask. Something about that bird-like face--what it resembled--it just freaked her out. She took the item in her hands and stared down at it, unmoving. Eden remained still so long, that Calypso had already put on her entire suit. She hadn't ever felt this way about anything before, and fearing such a simple object was weird. Eden wondered what the scientific reasoning for it was? Perhaps something about the face shape? Maybe the fact that it meant the location she was about to enter was life-threatening?

"Come on, friend, what it the hold up?" Calypso tapped Eden's shoulder, making her jump. When she noticed the paper-like paleness that she possessed, Calypso toned it down a little. "What's the matter? It isn't so bad."

Eden couldn't move, but began putting her arms and legs into that radioactive suit. Where could Lilith possibly be taken them that was so lethal? Radioactive gear wasn't something a kalon would wear while picking flowers, so wherever this was, Eden wasn't quite sure she'd like it. She couldn't find the strength to put on the creepy face of that death bird, and hung her head in shame.

To her surprise, Calypso took the mask in her own hands, and carefully placed it over Eden's head. "There. You're ready to go. We don't want to keep Lilith waiting, so let's go! This is just another one of our crazy adventures. Plus, what's the worst that could happen?"

Day 14

Postby Unleashed Squiid » Mon Jul 10, 2017 11:20 am

Your hero is probably pretty hungry, and I bet your food is getting low by now. Maybe with all these waterways, they could try and catch something to eat.
How does your hero do at fishing?

"Ugh, this is no use," cried Calypso, looking more than frustrated with this task. "I'm starving and it feels like we've been doing this for hours." She looked up, but remembered that she was down in a cave, and there would be no sun for her to tell the time by. It felt lonely down here. Sure, there were all sorts of odd animals and fish, but not many other kalons. She missed the others she had met along the way, and almost wished to go home. But Calypso also knew that the desire was most likely the hunger and exhaust talking.

The fish would not bite her makeshift pole, and the anticipation and stress of this journey was not helping. In fact, she got so frustrated, that she picked up a crystal and chucked it into the water, angrily. When it hit the surface, and the ripples dissipated, she was greeted with an interesting sight. First it was just one, but soon an entire pod of fish began to swim around the sinking crystal, apparently dazzled by its colors.

This led Calypso to try something. She hooked a crystal onto her fishing hook, and then lowered it into the water, slowly, to avoid scaring them away. After a minute or so, a fish was caught. Perfect. She smiled down at her dinner, and suddenly realized that this land wasn't so bad after all.

"Now that we're all geared up, let's get going to the wasteland! Remember to keep your gear on; you don't want to know what'll happen to you if you take it off, hehe. Just follow me through the Crystal Cove and we'll be there in no time! And don't worry, dear, going to this radioactive area isn't for nothing; I need a very special something..."
Image Do you choose to go with Lilith?

If so, what do they find at the radioactive wasteland?
What does it look like? Do they run into a mutated beast?
Or maybe it really is a wasteland, and is totally empty...?

story;;

"Woah..." That was all Eden could say as she entered the brink of nothingness. For miles, stretched an unsettling wasteland of empty ground. It was as if they were just looking into a void; a portion of land which was nonexistent. Before them, cut off in almost a perfectly straight line, lay a barren reflective flat surface which seemed to go on forever. Like a pool of unstirred and perfectly crafted glass.

There was a slight compressive tingle which lingered in the air. It made walking feel heavier, and breathing feel like more work. Whatever this place was, it seemed barren for a reason. This kind of conditions were unlivable. Not a plant, not a river, and not another living thing as far as the eye could see, and that was without the heavy radioactive residue coating this portion of the world.

She turned to look at Calypso, but then felt stupid, as she was greeted with nothing more than another masked face. Even though she couldn't see her friend, however, Eden could tell that Calypso was in awe. What a place to be looking at. It was beautiful, yet terrifying. Pristine, yet deadly. And Eden loved it.

When she finally caught a breath, the kalon asked, "What are we looking for? Shouldn't it be easy to find, considering, well...everything is flat for miles?" Lilith didn't respond, and Eden suddenly realized the flaw in her sentence. For miles and miles. Alone.

She thought about it, for a while, and then shook her head. An adventure lay ahead of her. And she was on her way.

Day 15

Postby Unleashed Squiid » Tue Jul 11, 2017 5:56 am

It's probably best to make camp for the night. The cystals in this cave are shimmering and beautful. They set a calming atmophere.
I wonder what your hero will dream about when they fall to sleep.

Calypso yawned, and slowly reached over to pet the chicken which had fallen asleep by her side. When her fingertips brushed through her pet's fluffy feathers, a gentle smile appeared on her face. It was then that Calypso drifted off into the vast grip of sleep. Her hand lightly rested on the small chicken's side, and it snuggled down, loving the touch of its owners hand, and feeling safe.

She suddenly was awake again...or was she? Looking around, the kalon was confused, as she was back home, tucked up in her bed inside of the old windmill. She stood up, and realized that this was back, long ago, before she had even met Eden. It was before the two had become great rivals, and tried to kill each other multiple times, and far before they had become friends. How odd. Was there a possibility that all of that had been some sort of dream? Absolutely not, the thought was impossible. But the sensation of waking up into an impossible, yet familiar setting posed fear in her heart.

Calypso looked down to see a small letter on the table beside her bed. It had perfectly neat handwriting that wrote: chicken chicken chicken chicken chi... What? She looked again, and it said, Squids are pretty cool animals. The kalon shook her head, completely confused. She looked down, and noticed that her own paws her blurry, and that was when she realized; Calypso was in a dream.

She had heard about dream awareness before, but had never experienced it. Lucidness was not something in which she was familiar, yet looking around, at the vast world that lay ahead, she felt as if it were something she had done forever. Calypso found herself wondering what it would be like to fly. Though the kalon was no legendary creation, she rose like a heavenly creation up into the sky, further and further. She hit the clouds with a puff, scattering the fluffy creations everywhere, and was finally free. Free. Was this what freedom meant? Looking down over the Earth with heavy eyes, but a watchful heart?

She gazed down at the windmill, the very thing that her entire life was put into, and realized how small it looked from way up here. Barely even a speck in the world. It was odd to think that all of her problems rest in such a small thing, but she didn't mind. After a while of flying, the kalon felt a little lonely, and thought up a friend. Her chicken suddenly popped into existence. The chicken flew besides her; examining the world as if it knew every secret that the Earth held. It then looked at her with its deep, gentle gaze and wordlessly beckoned her to go higher. And so Calypso did.

She flew even higher than the world. Out of the atmosphere, and into the empty vicinity of space. What a world it was here; she knew that her imagination was filling in the details of this travel, but it felt so real. The coldness of this foreign world tingled her body, it was so far away, yet so perfect. If only all worlds could feel like this.

If only Earth could be perfect.

"Well, did you find what you were looking for?" you asked Lilith, raising a brow.
"Sure did!" she replied cheerfully, holding up her arms, which were full of brightly colored quartz and herbs.
"What where did you,," you stare with wide eyes at the short kalon. "Whatever," you decide to give up asking, it was no use asking this crazy lady.
...
"I heard you were looking for the last elemental crystal... If so, then you're lucky you ran into me, love! Orrr to be realistic, to have fallen for my trap, hehe... Legends tell of a beautiful crystal that shines brighter than any other gem. Some say it even holds a special kind of power! I'll head you in the direction of where I think it might be, but before I do that, I have one last important thing to ask of you. It's quite important and will help you on your quest: a spell of protection! We'll need to brew a potion back at my shop for this to work, using the radioactive items I found at the wasteland."
Image Do you brew a potion with Lilith?

What kind of ingredients does the potion have?
Does it go as planned? What does it look like?

story;;

Lilith had started a fire underneath a cauldron. They typical brewing-sort of look, and Calypso couldn't help but wonder what this potion would be made from. She eyed the shelves of ingredients and found herself staring at things which she wouldn't have ever believed to be real before her adventure. Did there really need to be an entire shelf labeled, "death upon exposure?" Probably, but she didn't like the look of it.

"Alright," said Lilith, shaking Calypso free of her thoughts, "You search for the ingredients I list, while Eden will help me prepare the herbs and crystals from the wasteland." Eden gasped, apparently being shaken out of her thoughts too. She obediently walked over to help Lilith. "Retrieve the following: Silver silk, spider venom, platinum ore, and some of the virtuia berries."

Right. Silver silk, spider venom, platinum ore, virtuia berries. Calypso searched the shelves, picking each ingredient carefully,
then returned with her arms full of the supplies. Lilith picked bits and pieces from each of the items, separating certain objects into pieces, or whisking things around. Calypso watched the process, enthralled, as each one was then dropped into the heated water. The spider venom and silver silk went first, and turned the water white as snow. Then, the platinum and berries followed,
but made no difference to the color. The mixture was still pale, with a light froth at the surface.

But then the crystals were added. With an enormous CRACK, each was dropped into the mix. Fizz covered the entire surface of the cauldron, and then began to spill out over the sides, but it never hit the floor. Eden reached out to touch it, but was smacked by Lilith, who gave her a deathly glare. Calypso turned pale as the mist dissipated. This was the potion? It looked terrifying.

Whatever those crystals were, they had turned the water black. It was so dark that her eyes had trouble focusing on it. What was this? It gave protection, but from what, exactly? Calypso stared down into the frothy liquid, speechless. Whatever happened next, she feared, could not be good.

"Perfect," Lilith grinned down at her creation. Absolutely perfect."

Day 16

Postby Unleashed Squiid » Wed Jul 12, 2017 9:13 am

This is the last crystal before your hero can face the evil! Please tell me they can find it, or this whole thing will be a bust.

Eden was wide awake. She didn't really know how to feel, so she kept staring up at the ceiling. The world was so dark and empty down here. The only company she had besides Calypso was her own reflection, and there was a feeling deep within her of realization that this was, in fact the end of her journey. From this day on, everything would be different. The quest would no longer be a matter of "what ifs" but a matter of facts. Facts revolving around life and death. Her own life and death, and the lives of everyone she knew in Kalokairi.

She imagined the sun, now most likely beginning to rise about the horizon, and spreading its life-bringing warmth across the world. But it felt so far away now. Eden longed more than anything to see it, though she never really was a morning person. Something about being lost in the darkness truly made her crave the light that she had taken for granted for so long. And for all she knew the day that she had entered the crystal caves was the last day that she would see the sun. Maybe even for the rest of her life, and that was something that had only just soaked in.

She quietly woke up Calypso, who was sleeping against one of the giant crystals in this cavern. The two packed up their supplies, and made their way through the darkness. The glow of something deep in the back of the cavern caught her eye, but Eden almost didn't want to follow it. When the crystal fell into her hands, well, everything would feel so real. She didn't want that. There was a tiny moment of contemplation when the kalon realized that she could point Calypso off in the wrong direction; to prolong the fate that awaited them, but she put down that idea. This world needed them. When it came down to it, Eden wasn't selfish.

"Hey, Calypso! Look!" Eden mimicked a voice of excitement, and pointed towards the faint glow of the crystal.

"Awesome!' Her friend yelled, and went running off into the glow of the final gem. The final piece of this puzzle which had haunted her for so long. But here she was, at the end of it all. And Eden had no choice but to follow.

"I'm afraid this is my last quest I ask of you, dear. I've really enjoyed your company!" Lilith chirped, her strange rat creature, Sacit, jumping on her shoulder. "And now that we've finished brewing the protection potion, it's time you take a sip!" she held up the a clear bottle, bubbling with a plethora of different colors. Should a drink even be those colors? you ask yourself. "You may want to hold your nose; it doesn't smell too good," the plague doctor giggled, holding the glass up. "After you've drank it, head out this tunnel!" she pointed to a short tunnel in the cave, which was coated with quartz. "That should lead you to the final crystal! The potion should strengthen you on your journey, as well."

Eden stared into the bottle of that iridescent liquid. It gave off a sharp scent; something that made her nose burn after inhaling it. All she could say was, if that liquid was anywhere else in the world, she would steer clear of it at all costs. Yet here she was, trapped in a situation where she would have to ingest it. This was definitely a situation she was not prepared for, and Eden was prepared for everything. Monster battles, giants and thieves were all things she had dealt with before, so why was drinking this potion so difficult.

She turned to Calypso, who looked equally frightened. "On three?" her friend asked, softly.

Eden nodded, and held out her jar to clink with Calypso's. The two clicked together, and then Eden tipped her head back and gulped it down. Immediately her throat felt as it it had been coated in a sort of wax. The feeling was warm, but subtle, and it quickly felt almost normal. Slowly it spread. Her neck, her chest, and then her ears all filled up with that waxy top-coat-like sensation. If magic was a feeling, this would definitely be it.

She turned to walk, but suddenly was incredibly uncoordinated. She found herself grabbing one of Lilith's tables for security. Her knees bucked, and she relied entirely on the table to keep her distance from the floor. Why was her body so scrambled? This had to be an effect of the potion. Her entire vision began spinning and twirling, and she felt incredibly ill. She was dizzy and crazy and miserable.

Lilith was observing, and Eden suddenly felt afraid of the kalon. Had she accidentally mixed the wrong ingredients? Was she about to die? But the plague doctor stared for a while, saying nothing. Finally her silence was over, and she spoke. "Don't worry, dear. It'll only last a few more minutes."

Her words rang true, for all at once everything ceased. It was back to normal except for that protective wax coating. She looked at the floor, where her friend had collapsed, and seemed worried for a moment before remembering that this was a potion of protection. Calypso was fine. Embarrassed, but fine.

Day 17

Postby Unleashed Squiid » Thu Jul 13, 2017 11:32 am

You're at your final destination, the Evil Castle. What does an evil castle even look like?
How does your hero feel about starting the last stage of their journey?

Eden stared at that pipe-cleaner skyline before her, and a wave of evasive emotions hit her like a truck. On the horizon was a castle, and even from this distance she could practically feel the addictive pull of its darkness. She had been told that it messed with one's brain, and caused even the purest of creations to begin acting offset and toxic, but it never really occurred to her that this would be something that she herself would have to deal with. Above all else, it was frightening.

Though she feared, Eden still trusted Lilith's potion, for the protective aura had not yet faded. It was said to guard not only the body, but the mind as well, so though this place loomed with a greater darkness than was comprehensible, Eden would be safe. She gazed up, and felt no sunlight hitting her body. In this evil, the sun could not shine, and the kalon couldn't help but wonder if she would even gaze upon that single light again.

If all went well, the answer would be yes, yet Eden knew that even if she returned home, even if she walked back to her house, it wouldn't really be her anymore. She knew that this place was going to change her in a way that no amount of preparation would ever be able to prevent. And it would be something that no amount of help could ever fix. With a large sigh, and one last glance behind her, the kalon began to walk. She headed straight towards the castle of the demon.
