Day 6-Featuring Eden
- "Run!" Eden screamed, as she sprinted away through the forest. Behind her there were large, thundering steps; a monster had caught their scent, and was now closing in. She ducked through the trees, and leaped over logs and other fallen debris which clustered the ground. Although she could easily maneuver around these obstacles, the beast behind her simply crashed through them in no time flat. This pace would not keep her unharmed for long.
Think, think. What could she possibly do? And what was that? The kalon screeched to a halt in horror, realizing the dire situation before her. The forest ahead was being overrun in some sort of wildlife stampede. Deer, badgers, weasels and more all ran in a large clump. From what, Eden did it know, but what she did know was that there was a monster behind her. In a quick reaction, Eden ducked away under a log,
terrified, however the monster, now realizing the problem too, attempted to stop as well, but was not very good at doing so. It screeched as it was neared the animals, but then quickly whipped around and saved itself by jumping away. It hissed at the animals in fear, and Eden quickly realized that it refused to even get close to the cluster. It wasn't surprising. Most creatures would.
She thought about how to incorporate the stampede somehow into her escape, but she also knew that there wasn't much time. This log was no longer a safe option. The beast had seen her enter it.
When a thunderous cry shook the ground around her, she bolted; but it wasn't towards the way she had come. It was towards the stampede.
Taking a huge breath, the kalon leaped far into the air, and over the badgers which were racing around on the floor. The dust had not yet hit her lungs, and the hard, terrible hooves of deer had not touched her flesh, yet she knew they could. As far as she knew, the beast would not come within this part of the forest. All she had to do now was survive it herself.
Eden twisted mid-air to land safely on a rock. It was a little above the forest floor, which meant that at least she wouldn't be run over. The kalon knew that dust which filled the air was just as dangerous, so she covered her nose and mouth. It wouldn't last long, but hopefully it could protect her for long enough.
She observed the land for as long as she could before her eyes burned too, and knew where to go. A little ways ahead crept a small river. If she could make it to that water, then she would be safe. There was no way that the animals could be running through it in these conditions, for it was too wide.
Eden shook her head to clear her mind. Focus. Her instinct would guide her to the water, for though she trusted her mind, instinct never failed. The kalon backed up a few paces, then burst forewards, though the deer and mice and wolves, running as fast and as far as she could.
Then the blinding dust was over, and a lap of water ticked her feet. Yes. She had made it. Eden was safe.
