one prompt I like to use is just putting my character in a situation where they have to do or experience something out of character for them. for example, a calm character who believes in everything being handled civilly, having to throw hands with someone because of (insert situation). it can be entertaining to write c:

a favorite way i like to do prompts is to do place + situation + genre OR person + object + place. i find that for me at least, this encourages more creativity - and i'm less likely to get bored like i do with dialogue or otp prompts. alternatively, using a random word generator to pick 3+ words and use all of them in your work is fun, too. there are actually quite a few lit mags that hold contests like that!

examples:

- an abandoned hotel + a stolen toaster + romanticism
- a model + a birdhouse + a mini golf course
- a cottage kitchen + an awkward encounter + bizarro fiction
- a retired baseball player + a magazine from 1932 + a diner at midnight
etc etc etc

here's some ways to get there that i sometimes use:
random literary genre on wikipedia
stacking random plot generator
random coordinates

where do you write? If you use google docs, you could jump on someone else's computer until yours is fixed. You could even use public comps if you wanted.

hey, everyone!! i hope you guys have all been successful in writing your works stories recently! i’m back for my irregularly scheduled appearance on this thread to say something out of the blue.

it’s actually not another question this time, surprisingly. i wanted to tell you guys about this writing contest i found the other day — it’s run by the official general helpers of CS for the GH litter month (aka, this month), and since it’s a writing contest (and i know plenty well that you guys are all incredibly talented), i thought it’d be great to advertise here!! also, you can win prizes, with the top prize being 300 chicken dollars, so it’s a great way to renew your writing skills and also get rich acquire C$ while doing it. win-win situation

the thread is right here, if you’d like to check it out! they’ve also got a discord server, so you can jump right in and pester the GHs in real time (please don’t). if you don’t feel comfortable running solo and you conveniently have friends like i don’t, you can also run in small groups or in partners c:

also just a tip, for me sometimes i come up with somewhat obscure titles and work from there.
