❛❛In the Beginning.. ❜❜
A dark colored viscet looked up at the cloudy sky with distaste.
The wind was howling and the trees were creaking softly in the beginnings of a storm, the clouds were starting to move faster now in the dark spring sky as the first drops of rain started to pelt down on the annoyed viscet.
''Now I'm going to have to find shelter,'' The viscet thought in disgust, walking through the dark forest she soon saw the outline of the faraway cabin, there was a single light illuminating the whole small structure, curiously she stalked towards it slowly, she really didn't want some kind of unneeded confrontation, but there was no where else to go, and she couldn't stay out here all night, if she did there was the chance of her freezing to death or getting pneumonia, or getting eaten by a bear, or - Suddenly she heard the sound of a tree creaking and splintering, she looked behind her to see a tree falling, and falling right for her! quickly she scrambled out of the way just in time to start rolling down a steep incline.
''AHH!'' The viscet screamed, closing her eyes as she continued to roll violently down the hill as she pushed through bushes and tall, thorny plants to abruptly stop and smack right into a large boulder. She hissed in pain, feeling like a lightning strike went right into her head and left arm, her vision was blurry from hitting her head on the boulder, but only a few yards away she could see the faint outline of the small cabin, slowly the viscet got up, falling a few times but getting there, she could feel the rain pelting her fur and head, she growled in pain, knocking on the door of the cabin loudly.
''Cmonn,'' The viscet muttered,
''Open up!'' After a few long moments, she heard the sound of footsteps coming hurriedly towards the door, and a moment later, the door opened slowly with a squeak, and then she heard a small voice coming from the crack in the door.
''Wh-who are you?'' Came a shy boyish voice as the door started creaking a little more open.
''Listen, its raining, I'm tired, wet, cold, hurt,'' She paused for breath, trying to steady her voice.
''I really just need a place to stay for the night, and then I promise I'll leave.'' There was a pause, and a second later the thankful viscet entered the cabin as the door opened,
''Thank you,'' Said the tired viscet, limping towards the fire hastily.
''Its no problem - you're hurt ! I'll get some ointment for that arm.'' The dark girl viscet smiled at the boy viscet,
''I'm fine, really, I've had worse.'' The boy viscet shaked his head.
''Nope! You need medical attention and that's that.'' In a matter of seconds he came back with a first aid kit and took a few bandages and medicine out, sitting next to her by the low fire.
''Now...this may sting a little, so, lets talk. My names Dasher, whats yours?'' She paused for a moment, looking down at the flames of the fire dancing.
''Awai Bara.'' She said simply, suddenly feeling a strange sensation by saying her own name she hadn't felt in a long while.
''Awai Bara...'' Dasher pondered the name,
''Its beautiful. What does it mean?'' Awai looked up at Dashers curious eyes,
''Pale Rose.'' Dasher looked upon Awai's markings as if only noticing them just now, the 'pale rose' on Awai's shoulder, the strange cuff-like markings on the arms, and the necklace, noose-like marking on the neck, with all of it surrounded by barbed wire.
''That makes sense.'' Dasher said jokingly, then added after a long pause, just as he started to wrap up the deep cut on Awai's arm.
''So, whats your life story?'' Dasher asked curiously, looking up from his work for a moment to catch a glimpse of Awai's face.
For a split second, there were a thousand emotions in Awai's eyes. Thoughtfulness, fear, despair, anger, fury, tiredness, given up.
After a long time, Awai sighed deeply, closing her eyes tightly for a moment and then opening them again. At that moment Awai looked to the window as there was the sound of a growling fury of thunder in the sky that seemed to shake the very trees with its ear piercing rumble.
There was another pause, when Awai finally said,
''My life story is like all the others, like a storm.'' She closed her eyes, then continued.
''It starts off, just a clear harmless day. But, slowly but surely, the light fluffy clouds start to roll in. And before you know it, the clouds are getting darker, and darker, the rain starts, and at first, its ok. Just a bit of rain. But then, it becomes cold, angry and unforgiving, the air gets chilly, and the wind beats you and tosses you to and fro. By then you just want it to stop, but its not over. The thunder and lightning are next, they are what finish you off, they are the most angry and unforgiving of all. You try to run but the storm is to big, the storm is to strong for you. And eventually, you give into the storm, you stop fighting. You give up.She stopped, opening her eyes again and looking out the window and the rain tapping relentlessly at the glass.
''You don't really believe that, do you?'' Dasher said looking at Awai confused.
''It may be true that life is like a storm, but the storm has to end eventually, and when its over, the plants and sky and animals are renewed with life, the air is fresher and there are rainbows and birds singing happily..'' Awai turned her head quickly, looking at Dasher.
''You're wrong, the storm never stops once it awakens inside you, there are no rainbows from a fresh rain, or birds singing, just darkness. An unforgiving darkness that will consume you eventually, always.'' There was a deep pain in Awai's eyes that she could not mask as she looked into Dashers young face, she shook her head sadly,
''The darkness will always win.'' Dasher suddenly burst out,
''No! That's not true! With darkness there is light, and with light, there will always be hope even for those who refuse to see it.'' Awai gave a low growling noise as she replied,
''You think I haven't tried to find that so called light? I have tried, and tried, and tried again! But to no end, there is no light, not anymore anyway.'' Awai stared at the ground with shame and an ever growing tiredness written in her features.
For what seemed like forever they both sat, listening to the
drip drop on the roof, it seemed to get so loud Awai just wanted to scream, until Dasher finally broke the long silence.
''Tell me your story.''Dasher said in a calm and defiant voice struggling not to be shaky. Awai looked up surprised at Dasher, not sure what to say, only to hear herself speaking.
''Its quite long, are you sure you want to hear it?'' And then she added in a lower tone,
''It doesn't have a fairy tale, sugar coated everyone's-fine-in-the-end ending like the fairy tale books everyone's so used too.'' Dasher repeated in a slightly higher tone and just as defiantly,
''tell me... your story.''
