((Note:
-Whin are creatures much like humans, except they can use the type(s) of magic they have studied. Passion (my charrie) has studied shape-shifting, shields, and attack magic.
-Desmir, another main charrie, is a half-breed of both human and whinic descent. Hated by both sides, but fighting for the humans. Marked Passion and is now her master.)
Passion walked into the small circle of people, a mixed group of humans and whin, ignoring the snarls of her former friends as they taunted her. Her supporting half of the circle was silent, she believed because they were remembering her solemn words when she found out she had been cast as the fighter for her side. This war was going to be lost because her 'allies' had been angry and didn't keep in mind the many times she had told them she was weak without magic. And did they care to listen to the generals of the whinic side? This will be a fight based on physical strength alone. Magic will be restriced by the spelled water to be dumped on the contestants. Passion let out a growl of raw fury, her control slipping for one moment to let that emotion show.
She caught Desmir's eyes on her and gave him a glare any of her friends -no, enemies, she reminded herself- would know as one to mean pain and fighting to come. he just gave her one of his signature hard looks. He didn't believe she could do anything to him just because of his Mark on her. He didn't realise that since he was only half human, it wasn't as effective. She could beat him almost to death before she started hurting near as bad as him. It was only a matter of time before she would be forced to show him that.
Ronak, the slimy weasle he was, walked into the center of the ring in all his presumed glory. His cloak and robes billowed around him chaotically in the light wind and he was force to hold his arms out to keep from getting tangled in the finery. Any smart whin, any magician at all really, would know better than to wear so much. The heavy clothing would only hamper magic and weigh the caster down. The silver-eyed girl was broken from her thoughts as the chairman began to speak.
"Ah, Passion, how good to see you again!" He rubbed his hands together at this, a glint in his eyes that left no doubt that he wanted to see her ripped to pieces. "Such a shame you'll be the loser in this contestant however." She growled, followed by the three Tribals (council leaders of the whin people). They would not allow this boasting on a day of seriousness. They knew better than most that war was won or lost based on inginuity, not just brute strength. The chairman bowed and finished, "Well then, we all know why we're here, so let's begin. This fight has no rules besides that magic is forbidden. This will be enforced by a stronger magic than either possess. Each of the contestants will be doused in a volume of spelled water to hold their magic back while the fight is in motion. Afterward, the winner will be given the solution to reverse the effects. May the best man-" he gave her a look and coughed, "excuse me, person win."
Passion's lips drew back in a snarl, a strange look on her humanly features. It was a low blow and everyone knew it. Her arguement from the begining was that it didn't matter whether a person was human or whin, they were still a person with a right to live. She had been laughed at and called a coward for not wanting to fight. A few days later, she had been captured and forced to fight for the humans. Now she had a conviction to fight for them, not to mention how she seemed to be giving in to her 'master's' control. But that was ancient history. Right now, she had to fight to keep all of them alive.
Ronak made one last elaborate gesture, "Allow me to welcome Brawl. He's your opponent in this game Passion. Good luck." Then he quickly retreated and a man twice her size stepped into the circle. She noticed that the crowd parted easily before him, not just because of his massive build but because of a respect she could see among them. This was an enemy to fear. There was no more time to think. It was time to fight.
Clover, my former teacher and the thrid Tribal stepped forward from her risen position with the others on a small platform. "Ready yourselves..." Passion stretched out into a presumed fighting stance and faced that beast of a whin. Teams of two people each came up behind each of them and dumped a small bucket of water over each of thier heads. She could feel her magic being repressed, only her natural form and the human guise she wore now left to fight with. Clover nodded and a bell rang out over the crowd. There was dead silence as the crowd backed away, giving the fighters an open stretch of ground. They all stood to each side, humans behind me and whin before me. To my left was the edge of the trees, to the right a stretch of fields. There was a deadly silence, then another toll. It had begun.
Without a second past, and Passion was gone. She ran as fast as she could, her heart pounding with every step. It took both the crowd and Brawl a moment to notice that she had fled as fast as she could from the area, running flat out toward the treeline. If only she could reach there, she might have a chance. On open ground she was as good as dead. She had shifted into her animal form for extra speed and was twenty feet from the trees when her would-be killer recovered and came after her. He covered distance fast and was only ten feet behind her when she reached the first trunk, an old healthy elm. She darted behind it, fleeing to the thicker trees to the left. The man wasn't far behind, in his beast state from what she could hear. There was a young oak just ahead that had enough low branches to climb. She just had to reach it.
Instants before she grabbed the fist branch to scramble up, claws sank into her back and she was tackled to the ground. She fought to get away, clawing viciously at the brute so that she could flip over and get a better angle for attacking. She managed to regain her feet, but was force to the ground again as he lunged at her. Anger surged over her and she lashed out. She would not die here, jot today!
(That turned out a whole lot longer than I expected, but I hope y'all like it. What did I do well, and what can I improve on?)
