This isn't a diary, it's a pencil!

Hey Pencil, I'm back. The bus dropped us of, and I'm heading into the school now. Audrey's with me, and so is my sister Rosey. Shadow's already disappeared in a band of students.
The building is big. Very big. Very scary. Audrey and I walk into the building together, and left and right there are lockers lining the hallways. Various students sit around gossiping. Rosey walked into a classroom and left me and Audrey together.


What class do you have? I have chemistry with Mr. Ray first, but I don't know where that is. Do you?

I looked at Audrey's schedule. Hers looks like this:
1st Period - Chemistry - Mr. Ray - Room 102
2nd Period - Mathematics - Mrs. Silken - Room 105
3rd Period - Spanish - Mrs. Melon - Room 101
Lunch
4th Period - Biology - Mr. Kent - Room 103
5th Period - English - Mr. Lanko - Room 107
6th Period - History - Mrs. Slate - Room 104

I've only got a couple classes with her, which is good enough, I guess. Here's mine:
1st Period - English - Mr. Lanko - Room 107
2nd Period - Mathematics - Mrs. Silken - Room 105
3rd Period - History - Mrs. Slate - Room 104
Lunch
4th Period - Biology - Mr. Kent - Room 103
5th Period - German - Mrs. Peto - Room 109
6th Period - Chemistry - Mr. Ray - Room 102

We both share math and biology together. Good thing I have her for math, I suck at it.
We're both looking around to find Mr. Ray's room when some older student comes up.


Hey! I'm Rylie, a senior. Need some help?

You have no idea how grateful I am. P.S I like her hair.
Audrey nods and points to her first period. Rylie points with one paw towards a room halfway down the hall. Then she looks at me.

Mr. Lanko's room?

I said a little awkwardly, pointing to my first period. Rylie just smiles and points me in the right direction. She's so helpful. I'd like to talk with her more.

I'm back, Pencil! Well, I managed not to die on the way to English. Mr. Lanko's kind of weird looking. I'm not sure I like him. I probably shouldn't be writing in you during his class, but whatever. Luckily Shadow's got his own set of torture teachers as a junior and I don't have to deal with him.


Welcome to grade 9 English class! In this class, you will learn how to master the English language, and write stories of nothing less than perfection.

The entire class groans, and I can tell that he's gotten the response before. We all scribble down notes about verbs and nouns and pronouns and hyperboles and all this stuff. It's our first day, can't I have one last day of summer? Please?
Well, this class is boring. I've got no friends in this one, at least not yet. Maybe math will be better. I doubt it.

In math class, Mrs. Silken goes on and on about how we will use algebra in our lives. I wonder why it's even taught. Who uses the quadratic formula for adding up their grocery bill? I managed to snag a seat at the back of the class next to Audrey and this weird dog with a butterfly tied to her tail. Audrey passes me a silent note. It reads:


How was Mr. Lanko? I heard that he's a tough teacher. Do you think that you'll pass?

I silently scribble a response, hoping Mrs. Silken doesn't catch me. Don't want a bad first impression.

Kept talking about how we would write fantastic stories. I don't know if I can do that. How was chemistry? I have him last period.

I am mid-way to passing the note to Audrey when the butterfly-tailed wolf leans in close. She whispers in my ear.


Hi, I'm Bailey. Are you related to the black pegasus? You look like him.

I am about to respond to her when Mrs. Silken whirls around and glares at me.


No talking in class, Jasmyn!

Bailey smirks at me while turning back into her seat. So that's how it's going to be played, huh? She's going to be Shadow's slave, I can feel it.
