xxxxxMy name is Deborah Masterson and I am a lesbian. It all started about seventh grade in those weird in between stages of adolescence. It was that time in our lives that boys and girls started caring who they were and entered the stage called 'puberty'. While the girl's around me were clamoring over how cute Keith Richards, an eighth grader and rebel, was, I couldn't get over the fact my best friend was the most beautiful girl I knew. I loved her then and didn't know it. I can't remember anything I learned in pre-algebra class but I can tell you the exact number to my best friend's locker that year. 233. Her name was Olivia and she had the brightest soul I ever met. Her hair was like a long waterfall of golden locks that fell to the end of her back. It was as straight as a pen and as soft as silk. Her eyes were wide set and heavily lashed. Those golden spikes framed her deep blue irises that reminded me of the time I went to the ocean on vacation. It was the kind of eyes that made my knees weak, my palms sweat, and my heart pound. She had a lust for life like no other and I was so grateful to just be near her. I was so confused then and thought there was something wrong with me. Why couldn't I be in love with Keith Richards like everyone else in her grade? I never felt more alone than during that time when I was in seventh grade. To make matter worse, it wasn't long before Olivia started dating none other than Keith. Heartbreak was like a dull knife forcibly entering my chest and every time I saw her with her boyfriend, saw her smiling at him without a care in the world, it felt like she was twisting the blade to end my life. It may seem dramatic now, but at the time I felt like my whole world was imploding on itself.

xxxxx"Dearly beloved, we gather here today...
xxxxxThose words echoed through my head and forced my eyes fluttering open. I pushed myself up slowly with a look of bewilderment clear on my face. Underneath my palms was the tickling feeling of damp grass. My wide eyes followed my arm down to where it was holding me up to see all the lush green that surrounded me. It was only then I realized I was outside and a warm breeze brushed by me and fluttered the ends of my hair behind me. The sun was high in the sky when I looked up and the clouds were sparse and few between. The high-noon sun glared down on a congregation of people dressed in black and on either sides of them were thick, grey tombstones. I struggled to get to my feet as a wave of lightheadedness hit me hard. There was a light pressure on mt throat but I ignored it as I tried to think back of how I ended up sleeping at a cemetery.

xxxxxIn this world, there are more to the people who roam the land of the living than meets the eye. There is the realm of angels in Heaven and the realm of demons in the pits of Hell. There are three types of angels that live in their realm: the joy-bringers, the guardians, and the archangels. Similarly, demons have their own hierarchy based on power in their own domain. Each role has it own purpose in keeping the living safe and happy. Joy-bringers travel down to their humans and whisper in their ears while they sleep. It implants images in their minds in order to inspire them and make them feel happy and relaxed. Every angel begins their existence as a joy-bringer and many never grow past that stage. But for the few who do prove themselves, they become guardians. Their main purpose is to defend humans from demons who break the stern rules passed on by the archangels. How a Joy-bringer knows it has become a Guardian is a tattoo that appears on the temples of their face and swirl down the length of their face. The moment the markings make their presence known on their face, they begin training under other, more experienced Guardians. They instill all the skills necessary to take down a rebellious demon whether it be to send them back to the pits or end their existence completely. The final stage an angel can achieve is the rarest and purest of all. The archangels are the closest voice to God and through them, judgement is passed on concerning the fate of angels and demons alike. The rules set in place that all creatures must live abide are well known and spread through the two realms. One of which forbids any demon or angel to live in the human realm as tangible beings. This is to ensure that existence of either realm remain a secret from the ignorant humans. Another rule is the forbidden romance between demons and humans, angels and humans, and the least likely relationship of demons and angels. Any broken rules are punished by whatever the Archangels deem worthy of the crime.

xxxxxThe sun had just begun to set behind horizon which made the sky darken into a rich amber color. Raine had just begun to set up for their Storyteller Anonymous meeting that would last well into the night. She had a determined look in her gray eyes as she brought the campfire to life. I won't let those little rascals take over my meeting this time, she promised herself. The first few people began to trickle onto the campsite she had rented shortly after set set out the stuff for s'mores. The first girl was Dove; her blonde hair tumbling down her back in sporadic waves and her glasses glistened under the setting sun. She walked side-by-side with Captain, which was dressed in her usual captain grab. Raine felt her eyes roll up towards the Heavens when she looked at Cap't. She begged the girl to change into normal clothing and at least go by an actual name. That girl was almost as stubborn as Vinder- and that was saying something. They were chatting with each other with smiles on their face, which was a good sign. "Basically, I said to the bully, 'you say one more thing to Tsar, I will not hesitate to throw you off the Portside of my ship into the middle of the ocean so the sharks could have their way with your flailing body.'" Dove let off a musical laugh which the Captain joined in shortly there after. "I bet he didn't say another word to Tsar," The girl said as she adjusted her glasses. The Captain flicked her shoulder length blonde hair over her shoulder with pride glistening in her green eyes. "Not only did he stop messing with Tsar, he also filed a thing called 'restraining order' against me. Stupid landlubber." Before Dove could add anything else, Raine clear her throat and smiled at the two. "You two are earlier than usual. Did you happen to see the others?" The girl with glasses nodded happily, "The others are coming up this way. Be warned, I think Silver was complaining about the humidity. I think I see-" she was cut off by a sudden shrill voice. Raine's voice. "Juni!" she exclaimed as she rushed up to the girl and wrapped her arms around her. She sunk her head into the shorter girl's shoulder and her almost black hair tickled her nose. Juni smiled sweetly and returned the embrace. "You give the best hugs, Juni," Raine sighed before pulling away. "That is true, but you shouldn't attack me like that. You nearly made me drop the cookies I made for everyone." Dove brightened up at the word cookies. "You made us cookies?" Juni made her way past Raine and the other two with a large tupperware container in her hand. "No, I made you all a deadly poison and I am merely calling them 'cookies' so the government doesn't try to stop my evil plans." She chuckled lightly and opened the container. An assortment of round cookies varying from chocolate chip to snickerdoodles could be seen and the smell was mouthwatering. "Anyone ready to take the plunge into the afterlife with me?" Captain didn't hesitate for a moment. She reached out and snatched a cookie quickly. She plopped half of it into her mouth and chewed slowly. "This is quite delicious, mate." she said as a few stray crumbs few from her mouth. Don't eat too much, I brought s'mores. Juice is in the icebox." Raine interjected and pointed to the blue cooler nearby. Then she turned to the group making their way up to the site.
