Her smile infects my cheeks and it surfaces to my lips. The car rounds the bend and I can hear her hold her breath. Over the ledge of rock and sand we see it, the beginning of L.A. A spark from a firework - her eyes dance with midnight lights. Fluorescent lights cover her skin and her fingers can't get rid of the entrapping seatbelt fast enough. She shoots through the sunroof and leaves me beneath her. She is a wave and I the shore, L.A the magic that hides in the froth. She teeters and fumbles over my thighs, her sharp heels digging rivets into my jeans. I shut my eyes. I wrap my arms around those tan pillars. I have lost her to the city. Just as I feared. Just another L.A devotee.
