Jade glanced at me with a worried expression on her pale face. A tear dripped down her thin face; she was crying. I slowly approached her and rested my hand on her shoulder. "Are you okay?" I ask. "Why are you crying?"
She looked at me and shook her head. "Don't talk to me." She hissed, shoving my hand off of her shoulder. With that, she turned and ran off.
I stood there, confused. 'Why is she mad at me?' I thought. I made my way over to our table. She wasn't there.
All alone, I sat there. I barely ate. Jade was worrying me. I was scared- I had done nothing wrong.. right? So, why was she acting so childish and avoiding me? If she had a problem with me... why didn't she approach me and talk to me about it? I walked over to the bathrooms and found her crying. "What is wrong with you?" I ask in a normal(ish) tone. "Stop acting like a child and actually talk to me!" I hissed, raising my voice. Jade buried her head in her arms and cried even harder. I stomp my foot on the ground and storm out of the bathroom- to find my friends, Lani and Kyle, sitting down at a lunch table. I sit down next to them- an angry expression on my face. "Jade is being ridculous," I growled, "She is ignoring me and being completely rude. Do you know why?" I added on, furiously taking a bite into my apple.
Lani bit her lower lip. "She's a bit emotional today.." She started, focusing on the floor below her. "Her mom- um.. isn't here... anymore..." She muttered, her voice lowering.
I gasped and stared wide eyed. I had just remembered that Jade's mother had been in the hospital earlier- due to 'stomach problems.' They said she'd be okay... but... I guess not.
"I-I didn't kn-know..." I cried, turning away and running off. I had been a jerk to my very best friend- and put her through such a rough time. The lesson I've learned.. don't judge someone until you have been in their shoes- or know everything about them.
