Loving You Again (A Star Wars Fanfiction)

Postby Amethyst The Gem » Mon Apr 18, 2016 4:46 pm

I really don't want to spoil the plot of this one, so I'll put it in transparent.

So basically, Anakin has a really bad crash and wakes up in the hospital, an amnesiac, and Padme, Ahsoka, and Obi-Wan have to take care of him and help him get his memory back. Yes, I realize this is cliche and probably way overdone, but I wanted to try my hand at it and see how it would turn out. I'm basing their personalities more on The Clone Wars, but I will add elements of their movie personalities every once in a while.

Also, I changed a little bit during the dream sequence, to make things easier, Dream-Anakin is the one from the memory, real-Anakin is the one watching. (Yeah I confused myself a little with the two Anakins XD)

Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi stood back-to-back, lightsabers glowing steadily as the eyed their opponents, fifty battle droids surrounding them.

“On my mark Anakin.” Obi-Wan said quietly, his lightsaber moving ever-so-slightly. He waited...one...two….three…..”Now!” He lunged forward, striking against the battle droids, while Anakin did the same behind him.

“Honestly Obi-Wan, you'd think the Seperatists would give us more of a challenge.” His light tone and cheerful sarcasm awarded him a reproachful rebuke from his mentor.

“Don't ask for trouble Anakin. You may just get it.” Together they had made quick work of the battle, and were walking at a brisk pace towards their ships.

“Trouble finds me all the time. I just manage to get out of it.” Anakin sprinted ahead, reaching his ship first. “Artoo, let's get out of here.” He called to his companion, a small blue astromech named R2-D2. He climbed into the cockpit and took off, Obi-Wan close behind.

The next day, there was one headline in the news that everyone on Coruscant payed attention to.

Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker Injured In Ship Crash.

Anakin awoke in a hospital bed, monitors of all sorts beeping and buzzing, and three people, a man, a women, and a young girl sitting on a couch on the other side of the room.

“Hey, where am I?” He questioned, trying to sit up. A sharp pain prevented him though, and he laid back down, groaning.

“The hospital.” The young girl stood up and walked over to the bed, sitting down near the footboard. “Your ship crashed, Obi-Wan rescued you. You've been out of it for a while.”

“O…...Obi-Wan?” He looked confused. “Who's that?”

The young girl looked startled. Then she frowned. “Anakin, if this is your idea of a joke then I don't find it very funny.”

Anakin tried to shake his head, but winced painfully. “It's….It's not a joke. Who's Obi-Wan? Who are you? Who am I?”

Once Ahsoka had recovered from her initial shock, she had called a medic over, a human, not a droid. The medic explained that Anakin had slight amnesia. “He should be fine soon. We'll keep him here for observation just in case though, at least until he's healed from the crash.”

Ahsoka nodded. “Thank you doctor.”

Anakin had been listening to the short exchange and gained a small understanding on what was going on. “So...My name is Anakin? And….What's your name?” He pointed to Ahsoka.

Ahsoka blinked back tears. This was harder than she thought it would be. Her own master didn't remember her. “I'm Ahsoka Tano. I'm 15, and I'm your Padawan learner. This is Obi-Wan Kenobi.” She pointed to Obi-Wan. “He's your former master. You guys are good friends.” Finally she pointed to Padme. “And this is Senator Padme Amidala. You two are good friends as well.”

Anakin nodded as best he could. At least now he knew their names, even if he didn't remember anything about them. “Thank you...Ahsoka. I'm….I'm sorry I don't remember you. All of you.”

Padme started to speak, but the medic came back and informed them that visiting hours were over, and that they would have to come back tomorrow. “Goodbye Anakin.” Padme managed before standing up to leave the room.

“Goodbye Senator Amidala.” The words felt….wrong on Anakin's tongue somehow, but he couldn't place why.

Padme rushed out the door to hide her tears. Anakin, her own husband, didn't know they were married, barely even knew she existed! She had to get her Anakin back. Surely there must be a way.

Ahsoka and Obi-Wan stood outside the hospital, concerned by this new development. “Anakin really doesn't remember us. What do we do now? Tell the council? Will he be expelled?”

“Not yet.” Obi-Wan put a reassuring hand on Ahsoka's shoulder. “As long as he's still in the hospital, we don't have anything to worry about. It's once he's released that we'll have a reason to be concerned. I doubt the Jed council will expel him for amnesia, but he may have to be kept a close eye on until his memory recovers.”

Ahsoka couldn't help but hold onto the tiny hope that Anakin would recover his memory before being released from medical custody.

Anakin toyed with the names he had been told, repeating them to himself like a newborn child would with his first word. “Ahsoka Tano, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Padme Amidala.” He lingered on the name Padme. He liked the way it sounded. “Anakin, Ahsoka, Obi-Wan, Padme.” He repeated them one more time, then fell asleep.

Anakin's dream didn't seem like a dream. It had that feeling of vague familiarity.

A young child with blond hair was sitting in a ship….no, a pod racer, flipping various switches and steering with the skill of an expert. Anakin was thrilled just watching this child. When it nearly crashed he felt the urge to run forward and help, but found he couldn't move. It was like he was helpless. The pod race was over and the child had won. Why did he look so familiar? A tall man with long hair and caring eyes lifted the child out of the racer and said, “Well done Anakin.”

Anakin. So this was him, when he was younger. It was a memory! real-Anakin watched as various people congratulated dream-Anakin, before the scene faded out, replaced by a desert scene. “Master Qui-Gon, I'm tired!” It was the same child, him, running across a sandy desert towards a sleek metal ship. The man, apparently named Qui-Gon, turned around and told young Anakin to duck down, and the child complied without question, hitting the ground just seconds before a speeder came out of nowhere, with a darkly hooded figure as the rider. The two battled as Anakin slipped away by Qui-Gon's orders. A few seconds later young Anakin was talking to another man aboard the ship, who was introduced as Obi-Wan. “You're a Jedi? Pleased to meet you.” Dream-Anakin stared at the man. So this was when he met Obi-Wan, the man who had rescued him.

The scene changed once again, and this time all he could see was a beautiful girl with flowing brown hair, but she would not turn around. She was facing a window, and she looked sad, as if she were carrying a heavy burden all on her own. Anakin yearned to reach out and help this girl, hold her, reassure her, anything to make her feel better.

Then it faded again, replaced by darkness, and Anakin slept dreamlessly through the night, clinging to the few memories he had found, cherishing them like a child's lost toy.

Anakin awoke the next day to a beam of sunlight pouring in from the hospital window. Ahsoka, Obi-Wan, and Padme were sitting on the couch again. “Hello.” He said cautiously.

Ahsoka smiled. “Hello. How are you doing today?” What she really meant was, “Do you remember anything?

“Still in pain.” Anakin wasn't as cheerful as he normally was, but at least he didn't seem as lost and confused as he was yesterday. “I...I think I found a memory last night. From when I was younger.”

Ahsoka and Padme both leaned forward expectantly. “Do you remember what you saw? Any important names or places?” Padme asked hopefully.

“A…..A desert. Lots of coarse, rough, irritating sand. And a race. A pod race. I won it. People were congratulating me. And then I met you.” He pointed to Obi-Wan. “And a beautiful woman with long brown hair.”

Padme smiled softly. Coarse, rough, and irritating. That was how Anakin had described sand to her before they had been married. “You were the best pod racer Anakin. You built it yourself. You were always good at fixing things.” Padme used a quote of his, hoping he would recognize it.

He didn't. “Was I?” Anakin inquired, trying to remember ever fixing anything. It all came back blank. He began to grow frustrated, frowning impatiently. “I..I don't remember fixing anything.”

“It's alright Anakin.” Obi-Wan said patiently. “You'll remember soon enough. Let's not push him Senator Amidala. You too Ahsoka.”

“I'm sorry Anakin.” Padme apologized. “I guess I had just hoped that it would bring something back.”

“Don't apologize Senator Amidala. It's not your fault. Have I always been this impatient?” He asked Obi-Wan.

“As a young child, no. As a teenager, most definitely yes.” Obi-Wan said fondly. “I've often had to remind you to be patient, but it was almost always in vain.”

There was a knock at the door, and a medic came in. “Just a routine check, and master Obi-Wan, there's someone downstairs who wants to talk to you. Another Jedi I think.”

Obi-Wan said good-bye to Anakin, then stepped out, Ahsoka following close behind. “Why didn't Anakin ever tell me he was a pod racer?”

Obi-Wan stopped and looked Ahsoka in the eye. “Ahsoka, there were many parts of Anakin's history that he'd very much rather forget. Especially in his younger years, before his time as a Jedi.”

“You mean Anakin wasn't a Jedi from birth?” Ahsoka was surprised. Most Jedi were at the temple by the time they were about two years old.

“No. Anakin was much older than most. He was about nine. You see Ahsoka...” Obi-Wan stopped explaining, since they had come across the Jedi that had been waiting for them.

“Obi-Wan, Padawan Tano, how is young Skywalker, hm?”

“Anakin is fine, Master Yoda, but he won't be going anywhere for a while. The hospital wants to keep him in medical custody until he's fully recovered.”

“Then recover quickly, he must. Needed in the temple, young Skywalker is.” Yoda spoke in his own special syntax, which everyone around him had grown to love and easily understand.

“Yes Master Yoda, although there is one slight….complication. Anakin seems to have….developed amnesia.” Obi-Wan said carefully.

Yoda didn't seem surprised, and somehow Obi-Wan wondered if maybe he already knew. “Troubling, this new development is. On Skywalker, keep a close eye, you must.”

“Yes Master Yoda.” Obi-Wan bowed respectfully, Ahsoka following suit, then turned around to go back to Anakin's room.

Anakin had watched Obi-Wan and Ahsoka leave, wishing they would stay. He felt like a helpless child. The medic had finished the routine check and left as well. “Senator Amidala…..What do I look like?”

Padme felt like crying, but she couldn't. Not in front of Anakin. Not when she needed to be strong for him. “You're….You're beautiful. I'll get you a mirror tomorrow so you can see for yourself. Dark blond hair, beautiful blue eyes, a strong proud smile…..” Padme faltered. Should she tell him about the scar? Or would that raise more questions?

“Thank you...Padme.” Anakin smiled. That name felt more natural. “How….How well did we know each other? You seem so familiar, but I just can't place why.”

Padme fought back a fresh wave of tears. “We….knew each other very well Anakin. You were….You are, my best friend.” She decided to not tell him they were married, not yet. It may be too much of a shock.

Anakin pondered a question, and voiced it aloud after building up his courage. “Padme….can you tell me…...How did we meet? I want to know.”

Padme took a calming breath before answering. “We...we met at a shop on Tatooine. You were working there. I was looking for parts for my ship.” It was the truth, but only half of it.

“Tatooine.” Anakin said the planet's name with a sort of disdain, as if it were the worst thing he could think of. “I remember the sand, and the heat, and the noise of a crowd. I didn't like that planet, did I?”

A sharp knock sounded at the door, and Ahsoka and Obi-Wan came inside. “Hey Anakin, feeling any better?” Ahsoka sat next to Padme on Anakin's bed.

“A little. Padme told me what I look like. She's going to bring me a mirror tomorrow. She told me how we met.” Anakin smiled with a sort of childish joy, like he was enjoying re-discovering his friends.

Padme stood up, still smiling from their brief exchange. “I'll see you later Anakin. I have some business to attend to in the senate.” She started towards the door.

“Good-bye Padme.” Anakin called after her. “I'll see you tomorrow.” He seemed disappointed that Padme had to leave, but being confined to his bed, could do nothing about it.

Obi-Wan followed Padme outside. “What all did you tell Anakin?” He kept his voice tone calm and even, but Padme could tell he was worried.

“Relax, I didn't tell him everything. Just….half of it. I told him he worked at a ship dealer and that I met him looking for parts for my ship. Nothing more. You two came back before he could ask any real questions.”

“Good. Hopefully Anakin will begin to recover his memories on his own, without us having to prompt him, although I fear if he recovers them too quickly it may leave a traumatic imprint on his life.”

Later that night, after Ahsoka had left, Anakin decided he didn't want to sit around helplessly anymore. He had been given medicine for his pain, and therefore didn't feel like anything was wrong. Slowly, he managed to ease out of the bed, took one step….and promptly fell down. “Ow.” He muttered quietly. “Okay, not such a good idea.” To top it off, the nurse was back with a dinner tray.

“Mister Skywalker, what on Coruscant are you doing?” She scolded, bending down to help him back onto the bed.

“Trying to walk.” Anakin blushed profusely. He felt like a child caught in the act of sneaking a sweet, embarrassed and sheepish.

“As injured as you are? Honestly, I leave a patient alone for one second and then he decides he's better? Of all the luck. Mister Skywalker I'm sorry but you're going to have to be a little more patient than that.”

“I'm sorry….” Anakin read the nurse's name badge, “Shakira.” He settled back in bed, sighing quietly. “I'll try.”

“You'd better.” She teased good-naturedly, setting down the tray and leaving the room.

After Anakin had finished dinner, with little else to do and getting increasingly bored, he slowly drifted off to sleep.

His dream started quickly, a yellow speeder rushing through the busy traffic of Coruscant. It This time Anakin couldn't see himself, it was like watching a holo-recording. The speeder was chasing after another, much farther ahead. Anakin saw someone leap from the yellow speeder and recognized the person as himself. Another memory! After forcing the other speeder to the ground, Dream-Anakin ran after the fleeing woman, chasing her towards a club. The scene faded out slowly, switching to another, this time a grand looking palace. “Anakin, stay in that fighter” It was the man from his dream last night. Qui-Gon. The Anakin in this memory was young, about nine. He flipped a few controls, accidentally causing the fighter's engine to burst to life, racing outside the hanger and taking off towards the stars. Real-Anakin got a rush of adrenalin as he watched the fighter be maneuvered by this young child, by him. A few moments later, and a space station had exploded, destroyed by a couple of well-placed yet accidental shots to their main power supply. “Now this is podracing!” The child yelled excitedly, heading back for the surface of the planet. It faded out again, coming into focus on a small shop on the planet with sand that Anakin recalled was named Tatooine. He saw the beautiful girl with her back turned, and young him sitting on a counter. He looked at the girl and said, “Are you an angel?” The girl started to turn around, but sunlight blocked her face, and the dream disappeared.
