Characters
Characters are a key part of a fan fiction or any book at all. If there was a book without a character then... well... it really wouldn't be a book. When writing a fan fiction you probably should do your research on the character(s) you're writing about. That's right, HOMEWORK. For example, say you're writing a Fall Out Boy fan fiction. DO YOUR RESEARCH! DO not randomly say out of the jet pack blue, PATRICK STUMP IS A MAGICAL FAIRY DRAGON WHO EATS POPCORN AND NOTHING ELSE. Non non non that's just not how it's done. Unless you're writing an AU! fan fic then you have to know them like you're little sibling. You may not know everything but you should know about the things that are important to your story!

Setting
The setting of you story is also important. Make sure you know where your character lives or what state/country/city/ect they worked in, went to school in, or lived/live in. If you're doing an AU! then of course you can place your beloved characters where you like.

AUs
Okay so previously you heard me talking about AUs. Now you're probably like 'WHAT THE HECK IS AN AU' Well an AU is an Alternate Universe. So that makes it pretty self explanatory. AUs usually have names such as Underfell (instead of Undertale), HetaOni(instead of Hetalia), Dreamtalia(instead of Hetalia), Nekotalia(instead of Hetalia), ect ect ect (sorry for so much Hetalia AUs ahahahahaha). In AUs the characters tend to be a bit different. Like in Nekotalia, all of the countries are little kitties! I could go on for centuries about Alternate Universes!
