Utame finally sighed, stopping dead in his tracks and, after saving his page, closing the novel he was reading. Inhaling deeply, he pinched the bridge of his nose and turned around, looking up at his larger significant other. The younger man was standing a little too close to Utame, but his blue and orange heterochromatic eyes held a childish worry in them, so Utame didn't mind it too much.
What he did mind, however, was that Kurain had been following him around for about fifteen minutes now, and wouldn't speak a word of what the hell he was doing.
Utame knew he had to be gentle with this one. Kurain - despite being a tall, muscle-bound man with a terrifying aura surrounding him - was a fragile soul, almost childlike in a sense. He was easily frightened, easily offended, and as much as Utame loved comforting the younger, he wasn't in the mood to watch Kurain sob like an infant.
"...Kurain."
It wasn't in a questioning tone. It wasn't in any tone, really - it was just a simple statement, but it had the slightest hint of annoyance; an edge Kurain caught onto quickly.
The taller male quickly looked down at the floor, shuffling his feet nervously. He didn't like making Utame mad...
Utame, noticing Kurain's sudden bashful behavior, sighed once more and stepped forward, looking up at his significant other. He grabbed a hold of Kurain's hand gently, pulling him down so their foreheads were now touching.
"Kurain, love," Utame said, a little softer this time. He didn't want to make the taller male cry, so he had to be quieter, gentler. As if he were dealing with a small child - which, in a sense, he was. "What on earth are you doing? You've been following me around for a while now, and you've not spoken a word to me. Usually you're more talkative than this. What's wrong, love?"
Kurain's pale face burned a bright red, and he trembled a bit under Utame's gaze. He knew Utame wasn't mad at him, but he still was a bit nervous to tell him what was going on. What if Uta thought he was stupid?
"Kurain."
Kurain looked at his boyfriend once more, the words suddenly rushing out of his mouth in a jumbled mess. He wasn't even sure the noise that came out of his mouth was English, so he quickly clammed up again and looked down in embarrassment.
Utame blinked and sighed deeply. "Repeat that, love. I couldn't understand you."
Kurain looked down again, his hands shaking as he tried to relax. He finally spoke, his usually-booming voice now barely above a whisper. "I... I was taking a nap, a-and..."
Utame quirked a brow. "And...?"
Kurain's lower lip trembled, and he felt tears begin to sting at the corners of his eyes. "I... I had a nightmare, a-and it really scared me, a-a-and I n-know you p-probably th-think I'm st-stupid... I-I'm so-orry..." With that, he began crying softly, looking down shamefully. If he wasn't embarrassed before, he certainly was now.
Kurain heard a soft sigh and felt Utame's arms wrap around him. He felt Uta's head resting against his chest, nuzzling him tenderly. "Love, you're not stupid. Don't say that," Utame said in that authoritative tone of his, looking up at his lover with a quizzical look on his face. "A nightmare is nothing to be ashamed of, even if it did make you cry."
The taller, grey-haired male squeaked quietly. "B-but..."
"No buts," Utame said gently, beginning to tug on Kurain's hands. "Come. We'll sit in my study if it makes you feel better? You like it in there, remember?"
Kurain nodded, allowing a small smile to crack at the corners of his lips. He followed Utame, holding his hand gently and sticking close to the shorter male.
Even if nightmares were scary, he still had Uta to protect him.
