Chapter 1 - The Gunman
xxxxxIt was a bright and sunny morning as 15-year-old Skye Mei got ready for school. She climbed out of bed, changed from her Pokemon pajamas into her white polo shirt and navy blue pants, and headed for the bathroom. "Today's going to be great!" She said to herself as she prepared for her school day. Thursday, April 9th, was the day of her Cross Country race. Her instructor had said she was doing exceptionally well, and was very enthusiastic about the race's turnout. Skye was also ecstatic about the event, not only because she loved running, but because it allowed her to leave school two hours early. The thought of the event made her shudder with excitement.
xxxxxAfter Skye finished brushing her teeth and combing her wavy blonde hair, she rushed out of the bathroom and down the stairs to get her breakfast of cereal and apple juice. Her mother was already sitting at the table with her coffee and a newspaper at hand.
xxxxx"Morning mom!" Skye smiled as she pulled open the refrigerator door to get the milk and apple juice.
xxxxx"Good morning Skye!" Her mother greeted her as Skye brought the cereal, milk, apple juice, cup, and bowl to the table. They talked together about the upcoming race while Skye finished off her breakfast, and then Skye's mother drove her to school. As they were driving, Skye stared out the window and began daydreaming about what it would be like to be a Pokemon. She had been a huge fan of the creatures since she was 5, and had always wondered what it would be like if they were real, or, better yet, if she became one herself. I wonder what it would be like to race as a Pokemon... I'd probably be a Ponyta... Or a Linoone... Or maybe a Pikachu... Ah whatever... It's not like it'll ever happen... Soon they arrived at the school, a large brick building with two large doors on the front.
xxxxx"See you later, mom!" Skye shouted as she hugged her mother, and walked up to the school building. Taking a deep breath, she opened the door. Skye disliked school with a burning passion. It was not that she was bad at her classes, as a matter of fact she was a straight A student, it was her peers which she resented. As she walked through the hallway, she kept her head down and hugged the wall, desperate to avoid the eyes of the other 9th graders as well as the 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students.
Grabbing her books from her locker as swiftly as possible, she slipped down the hallway and into her math class. Skye was an exceptional math student, and so she paid no attention to the lesson currently being taught as she had understood it the day they started it. Again, she began daydreaming about being a Pokemon. Wind in my fur... Battles... Friendships... It would be amazing... I would be able to live freely, be out in the wild, do whatever I pleased! Perhaps... no... That couldn't happen... I wouldn't be able to join a rescue team... The world of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon is nothing like the world I'd like to go to... The Mystery Dungeons are far beyond my level of comprehension... Suddenly a loud shout snapped her out of her dozing.
"Skye! Get down! There's someone outside!" Skye dove under her desk to be greeted with another crack, this time closer than the previous. The girl next to her, Kacey, was shaking beyond Skye's belief.
"Kacey, what's going on?!" Skye whispered timidly.
"Mr. Piper heard gun shots outside! We are in a... L-lockdown!" Kacey began crying. Skye, horrified, ran to their math teacher, Mr. Piper.
"Mr. Piper, let me outside!" She yelped.
"Miss Mei, I am certainly not doing that! You'll get yourself killed! Stay inside!" Mr. Piper growled.
"Please Mr. Piper! I know who's out there!" Skye screamed as another snap sounded, this time farther away.
"No!"
"Please!"
"Skye!"
Skye, irritated and frightened, flung the door open and ran down the hallway.
"Skye get back here NOW!" Mr. Piper was furious. Skye ignored him and bolted out the door.
"Greg! Stop! Please! Don't do this, you're frightening everyone!" Skye yelled angrily. Suddenly, the gunman turned and looked at her. To her relief, her hunch was right. Greg was just a 7th grade trouble-causer, and meant to do nothing more than scare everyone. He was just playing a gunshot sound effect from his phone into an amplifier.
"What is it, Skye?" He asked politely.
"Greg, you do realize you are likely going to jail for this... Right?" Skye sighed as she looked at the small boy. Greg wasn't a bad kid, he just took pranks too far sometimes. This time, the consequences would be worse than anything he could've imagined.
"Well... Yeah. I just... It's hard to keep myself from doing these things... I knew what I was getting into when I dragged the amp out here, and... I was willing to accept it... Listen, Skye. Before the police get here, I need to tell you something. My family isn't doing so great. We don't have much food, or shelter, or anything... I wanted to get arrested so I could... Could... Have a place to stay..." Greg's eyes began to water as he continued, "I need food, I need water... I can't get that with how my family is now... I'm sorry I put the school through this..." With that, the sirens and lights of police cars arrived up the hill.
"G'bye, I guess..." Greg silently trudged towards the police car closest to him and sat down sadly in the back seat.
"See you..." Skye whispered to herself as she left the scene, teary eyed. Mr. Piper yelled at her and her classmates looked at her thoughtfully, but she ignored them all. Greg might not have been the best kid, but he was her closest friend at school. Now that he was in jail, she had nobody. That day, school was let out early, and everybody headed home or got picked up by their parents.
"Skye... I heard about what happened... I would say I'm disappointed in you, but I know how close of friends you and Greg are, and I know you wouldn't have run out there any other time. You're a good girl, Skye." Skye smiled at her mother and slept the whole way home.

Chapter 2 - Strange Dreams...
xxxxxThat night, Skye fell asleep very quickly.
"Hey..."
A voice.
"Huh? Who's speaking?" Asked Skye, confused.
"I a-... y--r...-nce..." The voice answered almost inaudibly.
"Please speak more clearly! Who are you?" Skye was becoming frightened.
"I am yo-r... co....nce..." The voice said again.
"My... My what?" Skye was intrigued by now.
"Ne....nd... We a-... en-h..." The voice answered back.
"What?" Skye asked, dazed.
xxxxxWith an awkward jerk, Skye awoke.
"Skye, Skye are you alright?" It was her father, shaking her in an attempt to wake her up.
"Are... Are you... Never mind, hehe!" Skye was planning on asking him if he were the voice she had heard in her sleep, but if he weren't she would sound crazy.
xxxxxThat was... Bizarre... I've never had a dream like that before... Who was talking to me... And why me? Urk... I'd ask Greg, but... Skye didn't go to school that day, as the shock of the dream made her feel much worse than any stomach bug she'd ever gotten. Instead, she began searching the internet to find something about this.
"Hm... 'Strange, inaudible dreams', enter. Hm... Strange stupid dreams, strange dating dreams, dreams of love, do androids dream of electric sheep... None of this is what I'm looking for..." Skye browsed and dug through the search engine for more than two hours, and couldn't find a single thing about what had happened to her during her slumber.
"I guess I'll take a nap... Maybe the dream will happen again..." Skye eventually drifted off into sleep.
"Welcome back..."
The voice was here again, except this time much more clearly.
"Hello... Who... Who are you?"
Skye answered.
"I am your conscience. I have message for you, a quest of sorts."
The voice said.
"A quest?"
Skye asked, interested.
"Yes. You are one of the chosen three. You are also the only human of those three."
The voice spoke with a distinct power and certainty that Skye had never heard before.
"The only human? Then... What are the others?"
Skye asked.
"That is for you to discover, child. You have been chosen, along with the other two, to save a world. You will lead them to victory."
The voice said.
"Me? I think you've made a mistake..."
Skye sighed.
"Destiny does not make mistakes, young one. It is said that a girl and two boys will protect the world from collapse... There is more, but I shall not state it now. Go on, wake up. I've told you all that I must say."
xxxxxWith that, Skye awoke. Shock was all she could feel. A quest? Two others that are not human? Save a world from collapse? How am I the one to lead them? This is too much to handle... I... I'm feeling... Faint... With that final thought, Skye collapsed.

Chapter 3 - Welcome to Red Town!
With that thump, Skye awoke what felt like moments later. She knew it had been several hours. Everything around her seemed oddly... Huge.
"What the... What? A meadow? Where... Where on Earth am I? Why is everything so... Big?!" Skye was very confused and disoriented. Slowly, she came to her senses and began to take in what she was seeing. In front of her was a large forest. Shrubs, trees, plants, and even a river were beautifully arranged in the ground. Leaves silently fluttered down from the trees as a gust of wind blew by, landing softly in the gentle flow of the river. To her left was a vast expanse of tall grass and wildflowers, dotted with the occasional tree or bush. Behind her was a similar scene, though she could see a beach in the far distance. To her right, though, was what appeared to be a dirt path leading somewhere far away. Trees and flowers danced lividly in the wind as another warm breeze blew over the area.
"This is... Extraordinary... I must be dreaming..." Skye, still in shock, attempted to slap herself, just to realize that instead of a peachy hand racing towards her cheek, a stubby, brown paw that could barely reach her head was there instead. As a matter of fact, a lot was different. Below Skye's face was a mane of warm, fluffy, tan fur. She had a puffy, brown fox tail tipped with tan, and long, thin, brown ears, similar to a Fennec's. Her face was covered in a soft, brown fuzz.
"What!? Wait... No... Am I... AWAAHH! I'M AN EEVEE!"
Skye's eyes grew wide with awe.
"I... I'm really an Eevee!" Skye was both excited and terrified, but the excitement got the better of her. After prancing around, jumping, and trying out her "attacks" (She didn't know how to attack so just jumped on things.), she remembered the path, and began padding down it.
"This is amazing!" Skye squealed as she happily walked down the dirt path. Fletchling and Pidgey sang above her head in the trees, and she noticed Oddish playing in the fields. Ten minutes later, she could make out a small town in the far distance. Upon realizing this, she made it her plan to get there before dark. I wonder who'll be there! Skye thought to herself as she approached the town. By this point she could see lights, houses, shops, and, to her delight, many, many Pokemon. This made her even happier, and she began running towards the small town.
Eventually she reached the entrance, and began looking around. Everything interested her, from hotels, to random shops, to even garbage cans. Erg... I feel like such a child, haha! Oh well, who cares how old you are when you're a Pokemon! Red Town, as Skye learned it was called, was a small and sleepy place. Sure, many Pokemon resided here, but it wasn't a massive, chaotic mess. It was simply... Life. An Ivysaur watered her rose garden, a Rattata and a Sandshrew played tag, and a small group of Mareep laughed and played with one another. Skye was quite happy with the little place she had found, and planned to stay here for a while.
That night, Skye slept in one of the hotels. The beds, despite being made of straw, were very comfortable, and she fell asleep quickly.
"Skye!"
The voice from the night before Skye became an Eevee had returned, this time much more fiercely.
"Wha... Why do you sound so-" Skye was cut off by the voice.
"Skye, you must listen to me! I cannot talk to you for much longer, as you are no longer in your original body, I am no longer your conscience. Tonight is the final time we will meet!"
The voice was speaking swiftly and with power.
"Please, go on!" Skye was anxious now. Things like this had become common, but none had been this urgent.
"Skye, you must find your partners. You will know them when you meet them. They are both Pokemon, and they will help you here. Follow the prophecy, and save this world, or else your world and the universe will be destroyed! Skye, you will face hardships on this quest, but do not fret. Your friends will help you. It is said that a girl and two boys will protect the world from collapse. This will be no easy task. You must find eight spirits. The spirit of Protection, the spirit of Rage, the spirit of Speed, the spirit of Skill, the spirit of Kindness, the spirit of Individuality, the spirit of Light, and the spirit of Darkness. Through these eight spirits, you and the two others shall save the world... There is one more verse to this prophecy, but it has never been told to me. You must rely on your wits and skill to protect you on this mission, Skye. Save us. Save us. Save us. Save us..."
With a blood-curdling screech, Skye awoke, tear covered. She hadn't realized she had been crying. Oh my god... So much responsibility... Who are these spirits...? And... My... My conscience! It's gone! Suddenly, the door to her room swung open, startling Skye.
"Hey, you! What's wrong? You just screamed like you've seen Giratina or something!" A small, gray, hyena-like puppy, a Poochyena, rushed into the room.
"Oh... It's nothing, haha, haha, ha..." Skye laughed awkwardly.
"Mmhmm. Sure. Alright, let's get you something to eat, shall we? The food at this hotel is awesome!" The Poochyena grinned. Skye agreed, and the twosome headed for the cafeteria.
"Oh, I forgot to introduce myself! I'm Ian! I'm a bit of a troublesome Poochyena, but I hope we can be friends!" Ian smiled, his two front fangs making him look more menacing than he actually was. "So, Eevee, what's your name?" Skye was very happy to have met such a nice Pokemon so early and breathed a sigh of relief.
"I'm Skye! Nice to meet you, Ian!" Ian grinned again, but immediately became serious.
"Wait... Skye? I... Last night I had a dream that said I'd meet a girl named Skye... There was something about a quest, and..." Ian became quiet one he realized Skye was looking at him with enormous eyes.
"What?" He asked awkwardly.
"Well... Last night I dreamt of a prophecy... and it said something about spirits and a quest to save the world or - " Ian cut Skye off.
"Or else it and the universe will be destroyed..." He finished Skye's sentence for her.
"Yes... Yes, exactly!" She yelled.WIP
