“Alright, thank you. I’ll call you if I ever need help again!” Jake called out and shut the door. He looked around at his new cabin and sighed happily. Looking down he saw Rex and laughed, “Alright, we can go to town before we go hunting. And I’ll get you something, you big lug.”
Rec barked and ran outside; Jake followed, jogging after him. Jake climbed into his car and Rex jumped in to the truck bed. While they drove into town, he looked at all the “No Hunting” signs and sighed. He parked at the edge of town and got out; they both started walking when Rex barked.
“Hey stranger.” Someone spoke, hugging him from behind. He turned around and saw Luna, and smiled.
“Hey back, what are you doing here? I thought you weren’t going to come out here, I know you hate little towns like this.” Jake laughed and Luna smacked him.
“Whatever, you want me to show you around? This isn’t the first time I’ve come all the way out here just for the best Ice Cream ever.” She smirked and started walking down the sidewalk. Jake followed her and looked around, seeing so many shops. People who walked past him were in awe and taking photos, he saw her look at him with a worried look. “Not the first time that happens to me, just the first time I’ve been in this town.” He shrugged it off and went into one of the pet stores. Jake went over and grabbed a tennis ball, then went over to pay for it, the lady at the counter just stared. “Excuse me, could I pay from this please?” Jake said smiling.
“Oh god, I’m so sorry. Of course, and I’ll throw in some treats for your pet there.” The lady spoke and handed him his bag and a box of treats.
“Thank you.” Luna said, grabbed the bag and rushed out of there; Jake exchanged looks with the lady, smiled, and quickly followed her out.
“Ugh, I hate when people stare at you like that. How does that not bother you?”
“Calm yourself, Luna. Why don’t I meet you at the Ice Cream Shop? I have to go pick up my new hunting rifle and I know that you hate going into places like that.” Jake said and handed her some cash.
“Alright, but I’m taking the dog. They made a special sundae just for dogs.” Luna laughed and walked away, Rex following her. Jake went into the store and walked up to the counter.
“Hello, I’m here for a pickup.” He rang the bell and looked around, seeing the different types of guns and knives. Some girl came out of the backroom and squealed; an older man came rushing out.
“Why’d you squeal?” Jake and the man spoke at the same time.
“Daddy, it’s the guy I was talking about earlier. It’s the famous Blue Eyes Boy!! Can I have a photo?” The girl asked and went up to Jake. She got out her phone and snapped a photo.
“Yay, thank you!” The girl yelped and ran into the backroom.
“Alright, I’ll go get your pickup. I didn’t get a chance to open the box though.” The man said as he went into the backroom.
“That’s alright. I usually look at it myself, how many shells did it come with?” Jake asked and kneeled down to look at the knives.
“You looking for a good hunting knife, any size you looking for. Oh, and it comes with twenty-four shells.”
“I’m looking at the four inch knife there, with the camo handle. And I would like to get two dozen more.”
The man took out the knife and went back to get more shells. Jake took it and looked closely at it, “How much for the knife and extra shells?”
“$120 for all.” The man said while setting everything down.
“Alright, I’ll pay in cash.” Jake took out his wallet and paid for his things. He waved the man bye and left. While he was walking down the street, people came up to him for photos. Jake finally arrived at the Ice Cream Shop and walked in. The place was crowded and he looked for Luna. Something brushed against his leg and looked down to see Rex. Jake followed the dog and found Luna at the corner booth.
“How long have you been waiting here?” He asked sitting down.
“The line was long, but I’m waiting for us to be called right now. Rex got his before us. It’s actually good, has a lot of peanut butter though.” Luna laughed and smiled at him.
“126, your order is ready. 126, your order is ready.” Someone over the intercom spoke.
“You stay. I’ll go get it, Rec stay.” Jake said and got up, walking towards the counter. He looked up at the guy ordering and stared at him. He had brown hair, hazel eyes and a good looking body. Jake laughed at himself and picked up his order, not without making eye contact with the strangers; both smiling.
“You still like the brownie sundaes right?” Luna asked as he put down the tray. He nodded and sat down, looking at the stranger sitting across the room.
“Hello, earth to Jake. I asked you if you wanted a bite.” She waved her spoon in front of his face.
“What? No, thanks, you want a -. You already took some didn’t you?” Jake laughed then looked at her seriously, “Wait. You tried Rex’s ice cream? A dog only ice cream.”
Luna laughed loudly and nodded, “That’s me!”
“So, tell me about your drive. What kind of game is out there?”
“Well, I did see a couple of wolves out there, but you’re not allowed to hunt them! I also saw….”
To Jake, she started to drift off when he looked at the guy. He watched him sit there reading one of his favorite books. The guy looked up and saw someone looking at him. They both smile at each other and Jake shakes his head; laughing.
“What is so funny; were you even listening to me?” Luna hissed, watching him.
“Hello.” Someone spoke at they both looked up, “I’m Sam, and I actually keep watching you watching me. So, I wanted to come over here and give you this.” Same handed Jake a card and walked away. Jake unfolded the paper and saw a phone number. Luna grabbed it out of his hand and her jaw dropped. She placed it down quickly and slide out of the booth, existing the shop.
“Wait, Rex what just happened?” Jake grabbed the paper and quickly followed Luna.
“Hey, what’s wrong? Come on, tell me.” He said as she pushed out of his grasp.
“You’re gay Jake?! Why didn’t you tell me, god I’ve loved you since the first month we’ve meant. Why do you think I’ve come all the way out here just to visit you?” She yelled and hit him on his chest, “God, I can’t even be mad at you.”
“Why not?” He asked, puzzled.
“Because, gay people are always super cute; and how could you be mad at someone like you?” Luna sighed and hugged him.
“I had no idea that you felt that way. I always thought that the first month we actually meant, I thought that we were just like family.” He spoke quietly and hugged her tighter.
“I think I should go. You have company and also a hunting trip to get to.” Luna spoke and pulled away; waving to them both, she left.
“Hey there stranger, you also going on a huntin’ trip?” Sam spoke quietly and Jake turned around.
“Hey yourself, you didn’t seem like a type of person who likes to hunt. What kind of game do you catch?”
“Not much, just some rabbits mostly. They’re great in tacos.” Same laughed loudly and snorted, he covered his face quickly.
“Aww, that was super embarrassing.” Jake joked and took hold of Sam’s hands.
“What are you doing, that was so not a turn on. Most would have just laughed and left.” Same said shyly.
“Oh boy, you think I’m normal. Now that’s a turn off.” Jake sighed and turned to leave. He heard Sam gasp and run away, he quickly turned around and ran after him. “Sam!” Jake yelled and took ahold of Sam’s arm.
“God, you can’t do that! Whatever the hell that was, what is wrong with you? Can’t you tell I’m not the type of person who puts themselves out there! Are you even going -” Sam stopped as Jake went over and kissed him.
“God, you talk too much.” Jake mumbled as they continued to kiss. After moment slater Sam pulled away and looked at him. Jake saw his eyes were shining; his whole face has lightened up.
“Alright, let’s go hunting now. Come on Rex.” Jake called out and ran towards his truck. When he went to his car he looked into the truck bed and didn’t see his pickup items.
“You are very forgetful, you mind if I ride with you? I live right in town so I don’t have a car.” Sam came up holding the pickup items. Jake grabbed the items and placed them in the truck.
“You can ride in the truck bed with Rex. I need these to not move or bang against anything. Can you do that?” Without an answer Jake climbs into the truck and waits for Sam. Starting the tuck he drives home quickly. In a few minutes they pull into Jake’s driveway and stop suddenly. Jake stares out the window and looks upon the scene in front of him.
“What the hell.” Sam spoke through the tiny window. He looks at all the people crowded around the front gate.
“Tie Rex down, he’ll try at jump at those people. Which isn’t a bad idea, but still?” Jake said and pulled the truck forwards slowly. He pulled forward and everyone turned around. Sam saw some News Crew and just people from the town with their cameras.
“Jake! Sam!”
“Come on guys, show us the love!”
“Same, how does it feel dating star?!”
People yelled out and started to take photos. Rex started barking like crazy and Sam tried to hold him down. Some people backed away and some got closer. Jake honked the horn and drove faster through the gate and closed it behind him. Sam let Rex go and he ran to the fence and started barking.
“Alright, that will give us enough time to pack up and leave. You can come if you want to.” Jake said and ran inside.
“Wait,” Same ran after him, “you’re leaving? What about hunting trip? What about us?”
“I’m sorry. This is a regular thing for me. I have houses all over the states. Once this happens in one town, I move to my next house. I just didn’t think it would happen this fast; or meeting you along the way.” Jake spoke and went into his closet; grabbing his already packed suitcase.
“My god, you’re already packed for this. What are you always packed for something?” Same asked following Jake downstairs.
“Yes. I have a bag for myself and Rex. I’ve been to this house twice already.” He said and threw the suitcases into the truck bed.
“What about us?” Sam asked quietly.
“What about us? You have two options. You can come with me and we’ll be together or you can say here. But I’m leaving, now.” Jake got into the truck and Rex jumped into the truck bed. He sat there watching Sam decide.
“Fine, but we need to stop at my place first. I need to pick up a few items.” Sam said getting into the front seat. Jake pulled the truck forward and opened the gate and drove out quickly. The people backed away quickly and watched them leave.
“You could have killed those people.” Same laughed.
“Well, they were trespassing. I even had a sign in the beginning of the drive way.” Jake spoke, “Where do you live?”
“On the other side of town.” Sam spoke and then they drove there quietly. They arrived at Sam’s house about ten minutes later.
“Alright, I will be right back.” Sam said getting out of the car. He raced up the stairs and disappeared inside. Jake sighed and rested his head on the steering wheel. A few moments later he heard a door slam and saw Sam walking down the stairs.
“When did you have a dog?!” Jake called out.
“She doesn’t like going out. Meet Renny, she’s like yours, but all black.” Sam said and put Renny in the truck bed with Rex.
“Well, this is going to be fun.” Jake said happily.
“Tell me about it.” Same laughed.
Jake started the truck, kissed Sam, and drove off.
