The sky was dark. So dark was this sky, that the very ground underneath her feet seemed to be a pale, gray river of hopelessness. It paled the walls of the lonely city street, and created a look of desolation. The only color in this sad, sad world was the very clothes she wore, the very hair on her head, and the very, very bright eyes upon her face. How she ended up here, in this little town without the slightest hint of color, she had not the slightest idea. The people here, too, it seemed, were devoid of color:they were either a sickly grey, in place of the warm yellow and peach skin tones she was so fond of, or a deep, dark ebony instead of the rich, earthy tones of her father's kind. But where were their blue and green and gold eyes? And the red and pink lips, the rainbow colors of nails, the vibrant clothes? The whole town seemed to have faded, gone to sharp greys and blacks, and creamy whites. All hint of color was gone. ~

When she awoke, she found herself in a small field, made up of dead, grey grass. How it became this ghastly color, she didn't know. She simply knew her name, and her name was Melanie. As she sat up, she took in both her surroundings and herself, and the differences between them. "Why is it the Earth around me is grey, and not green? What has happened to the colors of the land?" She had paused in that moment, and looked down upon herself, as if to ensure her own color had stayed, "Most importantly, why am I still colored?" If a citizen of the nearby town had happened upon her, they might have wondered if she were human. Melanie, being a coffee-with-cream color instead of a shade of grey, would stand out more than a magpie in the midst of a dule of doves. If not for her skin tone alone, her golden hair would draw the attention of the youngest child and the eldest senior alike. She, by the boldest definition, was not of this town.

Melanie stood up, and had searched for any signs of people nearby; perhaps they, too, would be colorful, and they might know how to fix the Earth. She listened for any sounds she might know, and for any signal she might understand. Closing her eyes, she pictures the area around her in color; of the trees turning brown, and the grass fading back to green. She imagined the entire field changing, and of the change radiating out from one, single spot- her bare toes, curled around the dirt and the grass. She knew it was impossible, but, for a moment, it seemed as if her whole body was growing warmer, as if she actually was radiating color from herself. A cool breeze blew past, and with it, she could smell the salty scent of the sea. Her eyes snapped open, and she froze. The world was green again.

(Not done, but is it any good so far?)
