*Please Note* This is not, in any way, meant to dictate what is and is not a dragon. This is more for personal use than it is for public use. PM me with any questions or concerns that you have.

What is a dragon?
A dragon is a reptile-like mythical creature. They can come in many shapes, sizes and colors, making each dragon different from one another. A dragon is often classified by many things, such as anatomy, where it's from, it's coloration, ect. Based off of these, dragons are separated into classes, which are further separated into types. These help determine which dragon is which, and what sort of care they require. Some dragons are tamable, while others are either too elusive or too dangerous to be tamed. For example, Drakes tend to be more aggressive than Easterns, so Drakes are harder to tame and control.

Classes of Dragons
Dragons are often separated into the following classes to better understand them. However, some types have two classes.

Flying
Any dragon with hollow bones, wings and/or some sort of magic are put in this class, as they are capable of flight. It's uncommon for flying dragons to be put into another class, though some have elemental attacks that have them classified as that as well.

Gliding
Any dragon that doesn't have hollow bones, but has large flaps of skin connected to the forelimbs, back, tail and/or hind limbs are put into this class because they can glide. Gliding dragons are often either small or light weight so they can glide easier, but there are larger dragons that can be gliders. These dragons can often glide for miles, provided that their is a strong wing current and they have enough lift to get themselves that far.

Brute
Any wingless dragon is classified as a brute. Brute dragons rely on either strength or elements to survive, as they can't glide or fly away. Brutes are known to not back down from a fight until they die, and they're highly aggressive.

Elemental
Any dragon that uses an elemental attack is classified as an elemental. Any dragon, as long as it controls an element, or elements, fits into this class. Examples of elements are Earth, Wind, Water, Fire, Poison, Life, Death, Darkness, Light, ect.

Types of Dragons

Eastern-Flying/Elemental
Eastern Dragons originate from Asia. They are often described as being thin, with tufts of fur starting on the head going the back to the tip of the tail. They also may have fur on their eyebrows, chin, elbows/wrists and ankles. They are often described to have antler-like horns and long whiskers on their face. They are known to have soft scales and a kind nature. They often hold orbs, pearls or gems in their claws. They are thought to be the spirits of water, and they fly using magic.

Western-Flying/Elemental
Western Dragons originate from Europe. They are often described as having wings, horns, and spines going down their back. Most Westerns are depicted breathing fire, though they can have control over any element. Westerns are the most notorious hoarders among dragons, and they prefer precious metals, gems and jewelry, though they will steal any shiny object they see. They tend to have very thick, plated scales.

Wyvern-Flying/Elemental
Wyverns are dragons than lack forelimbs. Rather, they use their wings as forelimbs, and they use them to walk, climb and fly. Wyverns come in many different varieties, some having spiked tails and spines, some not. These dragons are often soft scaled, though some sport thick scale plates.

Wyrm-Flying/Gliding/Elemental
Wyrms are dragons that lack limbs such as arms, legs and wings. However, some sport large sails that they use to glide, while others simply fly with magic. These dragons are soft scaled, and often have fur or feathers covering their bodies. They are rare, and live exclusively in the clouds.

Serpent-Elemental/Brute
Serpents are dragons that often don't have arms or legs. The are similar to the Eastern Dragon in anatomy, except that Serpents have sails and fins, as they live exclusively in water. Serpents are thought to be Eastern Dragons that never left the water. Serpents are soft scaled and somewhat aggressive, as they are known to sink ships. Serpents are often found in the Bermuda Triangle, though they can live in any wet environment.

Drake-Elemental/Brute
Drakes are dragons that lack wings. They often have large crests or horns of their heads. Drakes are highly aggressive, and most are known to breath fire. Drakes are one of the few types of dragons that can breath Greek Fire, or fire that stays lit even on water. Because of this, fire breathing Drakes mouths are constantly on fire. These dragons are thick scaled, and fire breathers are incapable of being damaged by fire or water, as water does nothing against their flames.

Dragon Anatomy

Basic Anatomy
All dragons tend to share most basic anatomy traits. Heads, bodies, and tails. Most have narrow heads, thin, yet bulky bodies, and long, thick tails. Most dragons are carnivorous, so their eyes face forward. Their eyes tend to have slit pupils, which will widen or thin depending on the amount of light hitting them. All dragons have scales, be them soft or hard. Harder scales tend to be found on the dragon's underbelly, as that is where they are most vulnerable for a lethal attack, though some dragons are covered in hard, thick plates that make it difficult to injure them. Some dragon may also have fur or feathers on their bodies, making them that much softer or protected. Anatomy is also determined on where that dragon lives. For example, a tree-dwelling dragon may have a prehensile tail for better grip as it jumps from branch to branch.

Class Specific
Flying-Flying dragons have hollow bones and are often very thin and slick to better enable flight. Almost all flying dragons have wings that are similar in appearance to bat wings, having long, finger-like digits with a thin, fleshy membrane stretched between them. Often times, this membrane also connects to the elbow joint in the wing and connects to the back, even sometimes continuing down to the tip of the tail. However, dragons that use magic to fly often have glands in their underbellies to continuously supply the magic that they need for flight. Flyers also have slim builds and thin bodies to better enable their flight, as being bulky would make it hard to get off the ground and fly at a fast pace, as a larger body may create drag and slow down the dragon. The heads of Flyers are often very thin, pointed and triangular to better slice threw the air. The hind limbs of Flyers are often incredibly strong to enable easy take off. The fore limbs of Flyers(excluding Wyverns) are often weaker than the hind limbs, as they are often not used outside of climbing, walking and/or grabbing. The tails of Flyers often have some sort of fin or flap on them to better enable turning while in flight. However, some Flyers may have more than one set of wings to serve this purpose.

Gliding-Gliding dragons may either have hollow or semi-hollow bones to better enable lift. Gliders don't have wings. Rather, they have fleshy membranes, or flaps, stretching between the fore and hind limbs, and often extending down the tail. Gliders are often small in size, as the winds are often not strong enough to support larger Gliders. Glider's bodies are bulkier than Flyer's bodies, as they spend more time on the ground than they do in the air. Gliders have large builds, as the often have to climb to great heights just to glide a few feet away, so they have a larger muscular build that other dragons. The heads of gliders are slightly less triangular, and they are more of a thick, wedge shape.
