I have based my story on this wildcats who live in groups. This story is about Swoop-clan and the cats in it! I hope you like it!
A scarred family member. A returning enemy leader. And an untrustworthy friend!
“Coal” Fern whispered in a low tone trying not to wake anyone. Her clan were asleep in a cave, which they now called camp. Stepping lightly, Fern scrambled over to Coal, who had woken up and began licking himself.
“What is it Fern, my dear” Coal turned to gaze up into her emerald leafy eyes and remembered how beautiful she looked.
“Don’t ever call me dear it makes me sound fragile” Fern answered. Coal thought she was the most delicate cat in the world but he didn't tell her. “Doesn’t the moon look fabulous tonight? It’s lighting up the clan perfectly.” Fern purred.
“The moon isn't lighting our clan… you are” Coal was full of emotion and Fern stared at him curiously. She padded over to the black tom cat and nestled down beside him. Her shimmering coat of grey stripes rippling in beside of him. The clan needed Fern, her: power, strength and wisdom, as they would face much more danger than they thought.
Padding over to the clearing, Coal headed for Fern, but Marmalade pushed in front of a-now angry Coal! Marmalade was a ginger-furred handsome male, son of the leader Hawk.
“Hi Marmalade” Fern called as she rubbed her face against him in a greeting.
“You look wonderful today, with your glorious stripes and bright green eyes” Marmalade spoke with some importance, while a metre away Coal shuddered with grief and anger. He was furious so he interrupted them.
“Come on Fern, we need to go on a hunting patrol together” Coal said as he spat the last few words out slowly. He lay his tail gently over Fern’s. Marmalade saw, straightened up and glared at the pair of them.
“Don’t bother going on a walk with me then Fern! I need to go and talk to my father anyway. I’m sure you will enjoy it better with him than me by the look of it!” Marmalade glared at Coal and turned away, his tail flicking Coal's face, while just missing Fern's. Fern glared at Coal as Marmalade trotted over to a black tunnel leading downwards. He quickly shot down it.
“Come in, who is it?” a voice echoed through the rounded tunnels to Marmalade.
“It's me father” Marmalade spoke and his father recognised his voice.
“Well...you know I have a crush on Fern” Marmalade spoke quietly so that Coal, who he knew was standing outside, couldn't hear.
The peculiar black tom was perched outside, half hidden in a oak tree, in the middle of camp, after saying he needed to do something, to Fern.
“Yes. I did realise that something was happening” Hawk replied, then began to whisper, “but Coal likes her too you know?” The leader replied tenderly. Hawk dragged his rough tongue over his son's forehead gently.
Marmalade gazed back fondly, at his father and then when Hawk turned around Marmalade stared at him with tears welling in his eyes. “It’s so un...fair” Marmalade burst into tears. Hawk touched him in a form of comfort.
“What on earth do you think your doing?” a voice shocked Coal and he fell out of the tree and landed on the camp floor with a thump. Turning around, he saw who had spoken to him. Mist, the mate of Hawk, faced him defiantly and asked him again. “What do you think your doing? Spying?” Mist aggressively questioned in a low voice. Coal stood up and twisted around to meet her strong gaze.
“I..I..” He stuttered as he didn't want her to know that he had been spying on Marmalade.
“Well I suggest that next time you make sure you stay clear of this tunnel unless you need to speak to the leader. We don't have that tree there for spying” Mist stared at him for a few seconds more then moved away, down the tunnel.
“Hawk may I come in dear” Mist called merrily, down the tunnel to where stood Marmalade and Hawk. “Why of course my darling. Your son is here as well” He spoke loudly so she would hear and as soon as she did Mist came dashing down until she reached the den. Mist padded quietly over to her emotional son.
“Oh Marmalade what is the problem? Why are you so upset?” Mist spoke sensitively, calming him down. Marmalade composed himself and said,”It's that I like Fern and Coal likes Fern as well and it not fair” Marmalade sobbed.
“Hawk are you there?” a sweet voice called from the top of the tunnel.
“Come down”Hawk placed his tail around Marmalade. The cat appeared like a strike of lightning. She padded calmly in and greeted the family. Her eyes the colour of lush green grass and her pelt as smooth as wood…Fern
Hawk gathered Swoop clan together. “It is the gathering tonight and I will only take certain cats” Hawk announced. He called out the names of the cats who where going. “ … Marmalade, Fern and Mist” Hawk finished.
“What about me?” Coal interrupted. He turned to stare at Marmalade with a evil look, guessing that he had something to do with him not going. Hawk looked at Coal and remember Tigereye. Tigereye was the scariest cat in the forest and was once the leader of Death clan. He was one of Coal’s ancestors.
“Calm down Hawk, Tigereye is dead now” Mist curled her tail round his. Hawk continued. He flicked his head and glared at Coal. The crowd of cats retreated back. Coal glanced at them and then regretted what he had said, as he tried to shield himself from the leader. “You will come along with us tonight, as long as you don’t make any other interruptions” Hawk spoke with a wisp of fairness and flicked his tail to show that they were leaving. Coal nodded at Hawk. It could of been worst, he thought, while Swoop clan spilt up and got ready to leave.
Marmalade watched as his father lead the cats towards the trees and into the forest. He searched for Fern in the swarm of cats, until he found her whispering to Coal. Fern turned when she heard Marmalade come. Marmalade’s face looked displeased. He was hoping to spend some quality time with her. Coal glared at Marmalade with a smirk on his face.
Fern began,”Marmalade… I..I…”
“We were just grooming each other, weren't we Fern” Coal said.
Marmalade padded up. “Oh were you, Fern? I thought you two were coming to the gathering” He said sarcastically. Fern stood up and wandered after him.
