Describe this bean in a few words:
Nihilistic, Quirky, Cool, Independent

Explain why those words describe them:
Nihilistic - The heat death of the universe is rapidly approaching and life has no higher purpose or meaning. Cher is somehow completely okay with this. He finds the thought incredibly freeing, that his mistakes and problems don't matter at all, and it's left him with a very chill attitude. He does what he wants, whenever he wants to. Unfortunately, things that he doesn't care much about have suffered... namely, his schoolwork. He excels in athletics, at least, but he can't be on any teams due to his poor grades.

Quirky - Maybe it's because of his general outlook on life, maybe it's not; either way, Cher has ended up being a pretty quirky kid. He channels his energy into his hobbies, no matter how odd they may be. He doesn't care about what other people think, so he's not at all subtle about his weirdness. He sings and dances in public, talks out loud to the birds at the pet store, and wears whatever he wants. Anyone who might complain is just met with a shrug and a smile.

Cool - For some reason, popularity seems to come flocking as soon as the bean in question doesn't care for it at all. At least, that's how it was for Cher. Both online and offline, he seems to pick up friends like how a garden gathers butterflies. It's hard to say that he's conventionally "cool," really, but that seems to be the term most people use for him. It's not something he's terribly excited about, but it's definitely nice to know that there's almost always someone willing to play online games with him.

Independent - Despite the popularity he's attracted, Cher is still largely an independent bean who enjoys his alone time. Sometimes he can be hard to find- in that case, the place that his dads always check first is the semi-permanent pillow fort that their son has made. When he doesn't feel like socializing, he can usually be found there, either strumming a tune on his banjo or huddled up with his laptop, playing Nightwar Online.

What is their greatest fear?
Vomiting. Cher doesn't want to see it or hear it, much less actually do it. He actively avoids anyone with a stomach sickness, for fear that he'll get it. While he used to have a bit of a sweet tooth, he had an incident involving three whole bags of candy that left him with a distaste for sweet things.

Tootsie rolls never did taste the same, after that.

Sunglasses:
His absolute favorite item, and something that he wears pretty much daily.
They do literally nothing to protect his eyes from the sun in any way, but they look pretty sweet.

Casual:
Tomatoes. It's not that he particularly loves them or anything- he just likes this shirt a lot. He went on a field trip to a farm, and this was a shirt that he won in a free raffle at the end of the tour. It's kind of worn and thin from how often he insists on wearing it, but it's still soft and comfortable... and he does like tomatoes. The pants aren't anything consistent, and he often just wears pajama pants instead.

If he doesn't feel like putting on pants, he'll probably just slip into a skirt and go about his day. If he's feeling particularly fancy, he might even put on some nice socks or actually tie his ribbon.

Pajamas:
He loves this shirt. It's clearly meant for sleeping in, considering that it's made of a soft fuzzy material, but sometimes he wears it to school anyway. What? It's not like anyone's gonna stop him. The sweatpants are just something he picked up from the lost and found at school and liked the look of. They're a little bit too small, which is almost impressive, considering how short he is.

Hobbies:

One of Cher's favorite things to do is to play soccer, and he's quite good at it. If he bothered to keep his grades high enough to join the school team, then he'd probably be one of their star players. Alas, he's quite content just playing recreational soccer in the park on weekends. He especially enjoys playing with papa Miguel, and is always eager to learn new tips on how to improve. He thinks it'd be fun to play soccer for a living, and he hopes he'll be able to have a job like that- one that he actually cares about and enjoys.



His second favorite sport is something a little more... out-there, but he enjoys it almost as much as soccer. Every weekend, he meets with others at his local park to play Amtgard, a sort-of mixture between medieval reenactment and sports. While it might seem like his short size would be a disadvantage in a sport focused on fighting, he finds it pretty easy to drop to all fours and dodge attacks by running right underneath his foe. He plays a level 6 wizard, and is notorious for his quirkier interpretations of spells. Many of the other fighters fondly remember the time he came to play not in a tunic, but in a full Care Bear costume, and used the "Touch of Death" spell to end fights with lethal hugs. He doesn't wear his signature sunglasses while playing Amtgard- he doesn't want a stray boffer to catch him in the face and break his precious glasses. He can handle anything else, just not that!



Last but not least, the final entry in this list is Nightwar Online, a relatively new MMORPG. In a very small amount of time, Cher's gotten a top-level character, a level 90 Warlock named Shadowscream. Thinking back on the name gives him a bit of a laugh, now- he can't stop reading it as "Shadow's Cream." While it sounds entirely less intimidating and more like a topping for a Devil's Food Cake, he kind of likes it that way. While the game's a fun way to kill time, there is a bit of a thorn in his side. Someone from the hero's guild keeps attacking his castle, and wow is it annoying. He often asks Dave to play the game online with him.

What, you think he's going to take over the game on his own? Those dungeons don't sweep themselves, you know.

Dave and Cher
"Is there anything I can do to help?" Dave often asks, regarding Cher's failing grades. He cares a lot about his son and just wants to see him prosper, and though he knows that Cher feels happy, he worries for the boy's future. Even when Cher feels smothered by Dave's attempts to help, he's still happy to play video games together with his dad. It secretly makes him very happy when Dave lets him be the leader in whatever game they're playing.

Miguel and Cher
Miguel seems entirely less concerned with whether or not Cher prospers in school, and far more interested in making sure their son finds something he can be passionate about. He encourages Cher to play soccer, as he seems to enjoy it a lot, but is just as happy to join his son in a round of Amtgard. One might think him to seem a little out of place among the younger beans there, but he and Cher can often be found sparring together in the sun, going entirely too easy on each other.

Rohan and Cher
There's no one that Cher looks up to quite like he looks up to Rohan. He fears he's been too pushy or annoying with his eldest sibling, without considering his problems. Sometimes he wonders if Rohan hates him... but he tries not to worry about it. Really, he couldn't be more wrong. They might not always get along, but Rohan can tell that Cher makes a lot of effort. Just because he doesn't always want the younger bean looking over his shoulder doesn't mean there's no love there.

Tulio and Cher
These two brothers have a very amiable relationship, wherein the two of them often go out to gather flowers. Most of Cher's skirts are hand-me-downs from Tulio, so he sometimes likes to go along on Tulio's clothes shopping trips to help him pick out new things. He knows that he might very well get to wear the new stuff- he'll just have to wait a few years. It hasn't quite occurred to him yet that he could just ask his fathers to buy him a skirt instead of waiting to get one from Tulio.

Like any good little brother, Cher loves to push Valdemar's buttons. Dave especially does his best to keep these two relatively cordial with one another, but as soon as his back is turned, you can bet that Cher will make an attempt to grab Valdemar's owl plush or do something equally irritating. That's not to say that they're opposites, or anything. If only Cher would stop making a game out of irritating his older brother, they might even get along sometimes.

Cuervo and Cher
Cher and his twin get along reasonably well, though sometimes Cher can kind of test just how forgiving "Pastel" might be. Generally though, he's quite kind to his twin. Honestly, he'd just feel bad if he teased Cuervo the way he teased Valdemar. He doesn't particularly like cakes, but he'll have a bite every now and again just to make his brother happy. If anyone else dares to pick on his precious brother, Cher will be hot on their trail and ready to kick their tail off.

"Cher..." Cuervo nervously looked up at his brother, who was adjusting his makeshift wings. "Cher, I think this might be a bad idea. Uhm, wanna just go back inside? Please?" He smiled up at the blue bean who was perched on top of the roof.

"No way, Pastel! These wings are fine, I used the lightest blanket in the house. Besides, papa got me moon shoes, remember? If my wings don't work, I'll just bounce right back up. It's gonna be awesome!" Cher finally finished fiddling with his wings. "Ready? Count for me!"

"Cher, please? If we go back in, we can bake something! I-it'll be fun!"

"C'mon, Pastel! If you don't do the countdown, I will!" Cher laughed, the wind ruffling his short fur. "Not gonna? Okaaaay! Then here I go! Three two one GO!" The countdown came from the boy's mouth in a jumble of excited words, before he leapt off the roof and flapped his false wings. "Lookit me, I'm flying! Like a real bird!"

The illusion of flight lasted for only a second before gravity caught hold of the child and pulled him right back down to earth.

"Cher, you're falling!" Cuervo watched in horror as his twin brother fell like a brick from a plane and landed entirely wrong. There was an unpleasant snapping sound, followed by a loud shriek from Cher. Cuervo, though normally cheerful, couldn't help but wince.

Later, when Cher was brought home with one leg in a bulky cast, Cuervo couldn't help but notice the moon shoes and fake wings stuffed into their trash can. Cher recovered fine, and learned the hard way that beans just don't fly. At least he ended up with another great story to tell his friends.

At some point during high school, Cher realized that his desire for freedom and tendency to ignore work wasn't doing him any favors. While he felt free, he found that he really just... wasn't compatible with the world as it is. Miguel and Dave couldn't support him forever. At some point he'd have to leave home and fend for himself... but he didn't really know what to do, or where he belonged. He couldn't imagine himself working at a store, having to greet hundreds of people each day with a fake smile.

Finally, he decided that maybe... It'd be best for him to just go.

He said goodbye to his family, and gave them his best wishes before leaving with nought but his banjo and a pack of supplies. Part of him was scared, of course, but for the most part? He was excited.

He would finally spread his wings.

yeah, i do kind of have plans, if i actually win. i've got a close friend that i'll be giving one of my own nursery batches to sometime in the coming months, so i'd love to have a baby bean at the same time he does so they can be friends!

i originally wanted to name him "Cherwell," but it was taken. i knew i wanted to go with the nickname "Cher," and finally settled on "Cherish." i think it's a nice, pretty name, and honestly fits him better than my original choice.
